The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

• Which item(s) you would like to work on
• How long you will work on said item
• Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
• Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

• share what item(s) you are working on,
• provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
• ask questions,
• encourage others,
• motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

• Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
• If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
• Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc. 
• Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
• Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
• Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
• Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!

Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

 Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

• Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.) 
• Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
• Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
• Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
• Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Thanks @Samtian, just slowly chipping away at everything. Feeling like I have a pretty good handle on the Laneige and the MUFE liner so I can turn my attention to really working through some of the harder to pan items.

@itsfi The MUFE lip pencils are such a favourite for me.  Glad to see yours getting some use!  And that photo of the Leneige lip mask brings me joy.  Love that you've used it one side over.

@missjeanie, yep, completely understand the hype around them. I'm late to the game, not because I didn't think they'd be good, but because I had so many other lip liners to work through first. They'll definitely make it easier to identify which liners to sharpen, sanitize and rehome.

@itsfi If I recall I heard something about new shades of the MUFE coming out soon!  I'm hoping to do some lines with them and see if I need to round out my collection!  Do you have a favourite lip liner?  I'm open to trying some new ones this year I think!

@missjeanie, MUFE came out with more shades as well as a new finish. They're fun and you'll definitely want to swatch them. Yes, yes, I'm all for rounding out a collection; I've been trying to take that route a little more when it comes to picking up products. 

A favorite lip liner? Hmmm, I guess it depends -

• for a more sheer lip liner or as a fill color, MERIT Signature Lip Sheer Lip Liner. I've been surprised how much I like these.
• for longwear, DIOR Rouge Dior Contour No-Transfer Lip Liner Pencil, TOM FORD Runway Matte Lip Liner Pencil for Sculpted Definition or exa Beauty All Smiles Bare Lip Liner - probably in that order too if a color I wanted was available in each. exa is the more affordable choice in that group, the Tom Ford the most spendy.
• for a creamy formulation, MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Color Pencil Long-Lasting Lip Liner, Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Long-Lasting Waterproof Lip Liner or Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Trace'd Out Longwear Waterproof Pencil Lip Liner. I've heard some rate the creaminess of the Fenty lip liner as a "con" but I don't find it that bad - it's creamy, for sure, but I don't mind it though it could be that my lips tend to lean more dry.

@itsfi I love a long wear so I'll check out the Dior!  But I'm also a big of the MUFE, so I may need to do a little swatch fest with the Fenty!

@missjeanie Sephora carries a limited shade range of the Dior lip liners but worth swatching if your local store carries them. FWIW, there's a brush on the other end of the pencil. I pared down my lip liner collection by half and kept all my Dior, Tom Ford, MUFE and Fenty liners, so you can't go wrong with any of those in my mind.

Thank you @haleyvvvv, those 2 products are definitely good reminders of how consistency pays off and seeing photos especially of the lip liner is a good motivator - to use the liner but also to not be so quick to jump at purchasing the next new liner.

Thanks for the Challenge! I need to really work on using the specific applicators and brushes more consistently.  I love nail polish so my personal goal is to paint my nails more frequently.
