Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

2026 has arrived and so has YEAR NINE (9) of the Pan It! Challenge 🍾

20262026

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler

  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!

Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler

  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Thank you @ElleElleG for another year!

I also am taking a different approach to the pan project this year. For me, this year is the year of Love. Over the many years I've collected a lot and haven't used them, hence my use it projects. I was going through my eyeshadow palettes the other day and found some I hadn't tested yet, so that project got a little bigger. But I'm almost done with liquid lips, and I finished off a couple other categories. So even though I still need to test palettes, what about the ones I've already done? Sit and still collect dust? NO! I broke them down into work friendly and not work friendly categories. I came up with 42 palettes for work. So each week one palette will be used on work days, and still test new ones on days off. The rest of the palettes I am only focusing on shades I have rated as loves. No ok's allowed this year.

I only have 2 actual pan projects, 2 eyeshadow shades. GXVE I Was In Love, and UD Framed. I will use these with palettes that are lacking brow bone/crease shades.

Starts of this year for these two. GXVE top right.

My use it, besides the make up ones not tested, is also focusing on want. Things I've bought because I really want to try them. But they just sit with the rest waiting for their random grabbed turn to be tried. Not this year. I picked out items from all my categories that I actually want to try. I will not finish this, but it gets me excited to start. I've also stumbled on moisturizers for daytime (I only used at night before) and I set them out to incorporate as well.

Here is my tally sheet-

Use-
Hair- /16
Cleansers, Toners, Exf.- /21
Eyes, Serum- /12
Moisturizers, Oils- /24
Masks- /17

@Samtian  wow, what an amazing collection! Those highlighters! 😍 I love your approach of focusing on products you love and want to use more. I hope you have lots of fun with your project this year!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@missjeanie ❤️ thank you! I am so excited for it.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

I can't even begin to say how much I LOVE the way you're doing the project pan this year, @Samtian !! I absolutely fall into the save my pretties and hold out on using them (aside from eyeshadows), so this is very inspiring. And that highlighter collection!! Can't wait to see you use the stuff you are excited to try!!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@haleyvvvv THank you! Those are only the best highlighters, I have the "ok" ones set in a different box.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

I think the only highlighter collection I love more than my own is yours @Samtian 🫶🏽

Use your pretty things! This is your year!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@danielledanielle Oh that made me smile so big! Thank you!!!!

And a hello! to your “helper!” 😊

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi Thank you, I am excited! That's probably Orion because I recall he has been getting put in time out a lot recently...

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Sorry for the delay, here we are, my pan it! challenge hopefuls for 2026.

Originl pan items 1.1.2026.jpg

Going a different direction than in years past. Sticking with 10 products, but doing an all makeup pan it! challenge. 😬 Yeah, I'm a little nervous. No, A LOT nervous.

Goals for 2026 pan it!:
  • Hit pan on one shade (any shade) in the MUFE palette and one shade (any shade) in the YSL eyeshadow palette
  • Hit pan on the Dior pressed powder
  • Use up Laneige lip sleeping mask
  • Use up the MUFE lip liner (?) Yeah, question mark, because I'm not sure if this is a realistic goal.
  • For all other items, my goal is to see how much product I use up by the end of the year.

To keep these products in use, my plan is to (try to) include at least one of these products in each week's makeup capsule on Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026. The YSL palette and the Tower 28 blush are included in this week's capsule. I'll also post my use of these items on other threads on the BIC as appropriate, like updating the Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory thread with thoughts on the Touch in Sol primer when I do an update of the other primers in my collection. I'm sure that MUFE liner will show up on a couple of the lip focused threads this year as well, and the Tower 28 blush could make an appearance on the Cheek Challenge Winter 2026: I'm Ready For My Glow Up, Mr. DeVille. thread.

Check-ins:
In terms of checking in with panning updates, I'll check in at the end of January to see what, if any, progress has been made and then I'll post a monthly progress report to the extent there's anything material or significant to report. Otherwise, I'll aim to do a progress update for all 10 items items on a quarterly basis

Congrats on year 9 @ElleElleG! 😘 Thanks for gearing us up for another year of the pan it! challenge. Excited to see what everyone will be working on this year!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi  wow, an all makeup challenge - so many beauties here! I've kind of gone in the opposite direction, I am mostly focusing on non-makeup items this year, for various reasons 😅

I look forward to seeing your progress with your project throughout this year! You've got this! 💪

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

We'll see how it goes @caitbird 🤞I feel like I've been able to get myself to a place where my skincare routine is better managed and my hair care can be gotten back under control if I fall off a routine, same with body care. I tend to reach for the same makeup items over and over - that's not a bad thing at all, but I have some things I need and want to work through and I'm hoping between the pan it! challenge and the makeup capsule I'll find a good way to go about using things I have and trying new things I'm interested in as they come out (but not all the new things right when they do - I don't want to get caught up in buying without having a reason that's makes sense to me and what I currently and realistically already have/need). The pan it! challenges have always been an excellent way to help put into perspective how long it takes me to work through products and that, is very useful in gauging whether it's worthwhile for me to make a purchase of a particular item.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

So proud of your commitment! @itsfi

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Thank you @lmaster; it'll be nice to see more progress on these.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi All make up!!! Dang.... that's a great challange!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Hoping this will help make some dents in these beauties @missjeanie. Between this and a couple other challenges, I should be able to rotate through my makeup collection more efficiently this year.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi , I think you're going to do great!  Makeup/color products are hard to pan if you don't use them often, so...👇🏽

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Thank you @danielledanielle. Trying to include one of these items in a weekly capsule will be good for use and a good reminder for me of the other items in this challenge. That CdP foundation though is gonna be a toughie just because of how much product is in there, but better that they were generous with product than skimping on it.
