Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Welcome to Year 7 of our Pan It! Challenge ElleElleG_0-1704168084184.gif

ElleElleG_9-1704168647118.jpeg

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

November 2024 Progress

Monthly Summary: No panned products this month but we're close on a few. 😊

November All Stars: I was suprised by how much of the U Beauty The Super Tinted Hydrator I was able to work through.

Next Month's Focus: I'll give some concentrated attention to the U Beauty skin tint, the Westman Atelier Lip Suede Lipstick Palette Les Nudes and the shu uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil. I think I may be able to polish off all of them by the end of the year. 🤞

11.2024 Pan - WA.jpg
We're so close. Soooooo. close. I fairly certain I can finish this Westman Atelier Lip Suede Lipstick Palette Les Nudes before the end of next month if I reach for it consistently. I plan to use it as my primary lip go-to on the weekends and for afternoon touch ups during the week.

 11.2024 Pan - U Beauty + Hair.jpg
🌻  The U Beauty skin tint was my go-to foundation for my red lipstick battles. I finished the first part of the red lipstickBeauty Product Battles, Throw Downs and Showdowns so I'll have to make a very deliberate choice to reach for this in December. Coverage is light on the color side, and the glow can be a little over the top for my preferences and my skin (but when I spritz the ONE/SIZE mattifying spray over it, coverage is just right. 👌 It's argan oil based which explains for me why the formula seems to sit on top of my skin and have a lengthier time being absorbed. This is one that's geared towards very dry skin types.

🌷  shu uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil is nice - hydrating, nourishing and leaves my hair soft and silky. Where is suffers is just that I have other hair oils I love more.

🌼  Ceremonia Guava Hydrating Leave-In Conditioner 6.7 oz / 200 mL is a favorite of mine. I'm a fan of the products in their entire guava collection. I'll continue to use this next month and next year, but don't anticipate that it will be part of my 2025 pan it! items.

11.2024 Pan - OSEA.jpg
The very definition of "slow and steady" - the OSEA Undaria Algae Body Oil and the OSEA Anti-Aging Body Balm are wonderful Both will see more use with winter quickly approaching. I'll eventually finish both these products; it just won't happen by the end of the year. Big question is whether to include one or both into next year's project pan. 🤔

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi Amazing progress! It's been fun watching how fast that WA goes!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@Samtian, it's one of those palettes that take a long time to hit pan, but once you do, it's a lot easier for that pan to grow and grow. 😅 I wouldn't have guessed I'd even be thinking of working towards a full pan now.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

It's about that time of year where I start getting bored and start my pan project stuff for next year 🤣. I'm keeping things the same. I'm going to photograph everything this time. Not the way I want to because there are so many cats constantly running around, but hey it's something. I'm adding a few categories that need to see some movement. I'm not taking pictures of the sheet masks though lol. Slow month for me, we've been working on getting the chaos clan fixed, and it's not easy! They have also destroyed more brushes, and lost/stole quite a bit of things. But here is my current update- I did finally complete a target...granted it only had 3 on it, but it's bronzers so...it took this long haha. That was in the Use category.

Pan- 19/327  Target- 80
Use- 195/516 Target- 386

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Your chaos clan wants in on your beauty stash @Samtian. "We wanna play too, mom!!!" They're probably a little more rough on products than we are when we're testing them. But, someone has to do an in depth test for durability!  😂🤣😂 Oh my goodness, your stats!!! You panned 19 products?! Woah!!

Yeah, I need to finalize what I'm going to do for next year's pan project - both the products and my goal for each. I instinctively think ND Biba and then go "noooo." 🤣 I may have a fresh, new lineup for 2025. 😲

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi They have too good of taste, going after LE Wayne Goss brushes of mine! I can't wait to see what you decide on! It's going to be different.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Noooooo, not the LE Wayne Goss brushes, kitties!!! They do have good taste @Samtian  - that's your doing though. 🤣

Yeah, it's going to be an interesting pan year next year. I'd better start figuring out what products are going into next year's challenge - it'll be next year before we know it!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Here are the products I still have left and some I'm working on finishing 🤞 before the year is over

⬆️ These two I'm done with, I hit pretty good pan on the Mario bronzer and the glossier serum, I just did not reach for it and it smells off so these two are done

U- 184/516 Target 386

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Wow, that’s impressive @Samtian! Do you find yourself using certain types of products in your use category more than others?

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi Thank you! Definitely my highlighters.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@Samtian  awesome job! 💜

@caitbird Thank you!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

October 2024 Progress

MONTHLY SUMMARY: It was a good month for panning. A very good month.

OCTOBER ALL-STARS: We have three, including one that has been in the works for ... awhile. 😊

NEXT MONTH'S FOCUS: Westman Atelier Lip Suede Palette - Les Nudes and Shu Uemura Hair Oil - I'd love to finish both of these by the end of the year. If I'm going to have a chance of that, I'll have to make some big strides in November.

10.2024 Pan - Body + Hair Care.jpg
These are my "slow and steady" pan products this year. I've no doubt I will finish them, it's a matter of when, not if. With past challenges, my "slow and steady" items were things I'd reach for because they were part of my pan it! challenge - having them here meant I would be consistent with their use. These 3 are a little different in that I am pretty confident I'd reach for them even if they were not part of this challenge, especially the Ceremonia Guava Hydrating Leave-In Conditioner 6.7 oz / 200 mL. Because of that, I'm currently contemplating whether to keep them in the pan it! rotation for next year or to swap them out for something else. Either way, I'll to use these and am interested to see how  much I'll use up in the last two months of the year.

10.2024 Pan - Shu + U Beauty.jpg
Pleasantly surprised to see the very noticeable jump in usage with both of these products. I feel like I have a good chance of finishing the shu uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil by or before the end of the year if, by the end of next month, I can get through a little more than half of the product I have left. Wish me luck. 🤞

The U Beauty The Super Tinted Hydrator will see more use in the spring and summer months. As a result, I'm leaning towards just reaching for it mostly on the weekends over next two months and then rotating it out of the pan it! challenge for something else next year.

10.2024 Pan - WA Lip.jpg
Ahhh, we're getting there, fellow panners! 😍 Slow and steady, and a handful more weekend wears should hopefully get us to full pan on this Westman Atelier Lip Suede Lipstick Palette Les Nudes!🤞

10.2024 Pan - OH eye gel.jpg
I'm not great with eye creams, better when I include them in a pan it! challenge. OLEHENRIKSEN Wrinkle Blur™ Bakuchiol Eye Gel Crème 0.5 oz/ 15 mL is DONE 🙌 and I am working through my other eye creams. I haven't decided on which one to focus on for next year's pan it! challenge, but there's a space for an eye cream on my 2025 pan it! challenge list. Stay tuned.

10.2024 Pan - cuticle oil.jpg
Similarly, I've had a cuticle oil (or some nail care product) in my pan it! challenge for most, if not all, of my time doing this challenge - and that has helped me to be more consistent with my use which in turn has been instrumental in the health and strength of my nails as well as in using up my products. Thank you pan it! challenge!

10.2024 Pan - ND Biba.jpg
October 10, 2024. The last of the sparkly shades in the ND Biba palette has been used up. Ahhhh....

10.2024 Pan - ND Biba 1 - Fini.jpg
Spoiler
It is done.

January 1, 2020. I started taking part in the pan it! Challenges. That was almost 5 years ago. I chose the full size Natasha Denona Biba Eyeshadow Palette because it was relatively brand new at the time and I needed something to focus on as life had taken a whole different turn.  This ND palette is actually the only palette I have gone in store to pick up on launch day.

My goal was to hit pan (not full pan, just pan) on every single shadow. [Note to self ...Self, I have no idea what you were thinking when you came up with that plan! Lol] Well, technically, the shade spot saw a bitter end as it somehow found itself shattered and broken to bits somewhere along this journey, but... 😂  In any event, here we are - pan it! challenge: accomplished! 4 years, 9 months, 10 days.

Having this palette to work through (and doing my eye makeup every single day - every. single. day) was good for me - it gave me something to focus on, to keep as "normal" as possible, and so many of the beauties here were and have been so encouraging and supportive of my efforts all throughout. A huuuuuge thank you to @ElleElleG for this challenge and keeping me sane when these pans seemed bottomless - brava to Natasha Denona for packing SO MUCH product into her eyeshadow pans! You really do get bang for your buck with the amount of product in each pan. To @Samtian for the constant raves over my progress, even when you may have needed to squint and magnify your screen a lot to see it. And to everyone who watched and cheered. 😘

This is a bit of an interesting moment for me - I've been working on this palette for so long and to now not have it sitting front and center on my table is .. well, it's definitely something new. And has taken a little getting used to. However, because I'm a glutton for punishment, I'll continue to work on the remaining shadows through the rest of the year and moving forward every now and again, but as far as it taking up residence as part of a pan it! challenge, this will be the last year for that. This full size ND Biba will officially retire from the pan it! challenges on December 31, 2024, to be used periodically beyond that. I'll post a photo of what it looks like on (or about) its official retirement from the pan it! challenge.
With only a couple of months left for the year, I won't be replacing any of the panned items from this month, and will spend the rest of the year working on the remaining products in this year's challenge.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I am so impressed that you not only done with the palette but you do your eye makeup every single day?? Amazing! @itsfi

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Thank you @lmaster! Ohhh, wearing eye makeup every day was during the first year (2020) and most of the second year. These days I probably wear eye makeup of some form, not a full eye, on average about 3 out of 5 days during the work week and at least once over the weekend.
