Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, welcome to YEAR 6 of the Pan It Challenge!

ElleElleG_1-1672620471899.gif

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

That's a great idea!!! @missjeanie little smarty pants 🤣 I'll use it tomorrow, have to go into town ☺️

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

My apologies for lack of updates but I am still working on my panning! I have a few new products in now from goals met.

I am currently working to finish up all of these products other than the Charlotte Tilbury pinkgasm wand which I want to use 30 times before picking a new product.

products: clarins lip oil honey, tower 28 gloss, flawless filter, Pat McGrath powder, Laura Mercier foundation, milk setting spray, fenty cream bronzer, Charlotte pinkgasm wand, urban decay eyeliner, wander beauty brow pencil.

This Fenty bronzer I have been trying to finish since last year and it’s taking me forever!!!

I am getting close on my Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Bronzer and My Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter 3 - Fair

i am happy to report I finished my ILIA Soft Focus Finishing Powder Fade Into You and will feature that in my next empties update! I rolled in my Pat McGrath powder to replace it which I don’t like as much and there are other powders I enjoy more so I’d like to finish it.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Wowza @BluePaisley, you are killing it with your project pan! 😍 #goals you are gonna get through that Fenty bronzer - it’s a matter of when not if. And it feels like when will be soon! 🙌🏼

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi thanks! I just have a few more uses left of the fenty bronzer. I’m down to the very last bits of it now. Looking forward to updating my thread! I think in July I will have some completed makeup items from my pan!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@BluePaisley Great progress! The Fenty bronzer must be a good one!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Mellmars1185 it is a good bronzer but it’s never ending and I’ve used it so much I’m ready to be done with it and use my others more!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@BluePaisley I know the feeling. I have a stash of stuff. I am always excited to try new things.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@BluePaisley Wow great job!!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@BluePaisley  You've got some great products there @BluePaisley !  That bronzer looks like you'll be done in no time!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

You're making great progress!! Look at your bronzer,, almost gone 🙌 @BluePaisley

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Oh wow great progress @BluePaisley 👏 I’m working on CT flawless filter too but mine is definitely bottomless 😂🤣

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I was hoping to finish the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (Pitera Essence) but personal things happened so it didn't get finished. But for sure this month! The lotion didn't see much action.  I've updated one category before but couldn't remember which and I hit a new one as well. So I now have 2 total pan category targets met- masks and perfume samplers. Masks had a goal of 6 and samplers 15.

That's so awesome that you met 2 of your panning targets @Samtian! Woohoo!! 🙌 You've done a fab job on the SK-II - looking forward to seeing you finish it off this month! Sorry that you are having to deal with some personal things; keeping you in my thoughts!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

MAY 2023 PROJECT PAN UPDATE: We're almost halfway through the year (sheesh! How did THAT happen?!!). The slow-and-steady approach that applies to most of my project pan items has really been more slow than steady this month, and it shows.

Monthly Summary: I spent more time with new-to-me products this month, so my May panning was just okay. No new pan this month but progress continues to be had on ND Biba and the hair care items in my project pan.

May All Stars: I haven't hit full pan on ND Monroe yet, but it feels like we're inching closer every month. Yaaay!

Needs Improvement: I pretty much neglected my project pan lip products all this month. Eeek! Going to have to change that in June. Will plan to reach for the WA Lip Suede Palette and the Chanel lip liner on the same days I use ND Monroe. Wish me luck!

Since I'm so close, I'm going to try to put more effort into using Monroe more frequently in June. I'll aim for 4 days per week. I'm fairly certain I can use up all of Monroe by Labor Day, and will make a concentrated effort to finish it by the 4th of July.Since I'm so close, I'm going to try to put more effort into using Monroe more frequently in June. That's my May. Excited to see and hear about everyone else project pan.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi I like the idea of pairing your lip products with your shadow.  They'll compliment each other nicely, give you a 'go to' look and help your panning progress all at the same time!
