Wellness In Progress: February 2025

Hey there, BIC! The February BWell board is up!  🎉  For a brief description of the wellness activities listed in the squares, check out this link --> February 2025 BWell Activities.  
 
If you're new or this is the first time participating, welcome!! The activities change from month-to-month, some reflecting seasonal shifts and others made to switch things up and add a new take or approach to self-care into our efforts.
 
Practicing wellness is a process, one that takes time and effort. Sometimes it's about finding what works for you, while other times, it's all about hitting your stride and maintaining your routine. We have our good days ... and our bad ones. Self-care can be a very personal effort - what works for one person may not work for someone else. And, that's okay. It doesn't hurt to have some support and encouragement along the way. Or just knowing that there are others working towards wellness. Wellness takes work. Let's do the work together, BIC!
 
▶️  How To Play - There are many different ways to take part in this wellness challenge. A few are mentioned in the spoiler below, but if you have a way to approach wellness bingo that works best for you, go for it!

  • Treat it like a game of BINGO, except in this BIC-version, you are your own moderator and can select which activities you want to engage, choosing at random or thoughtfully deciding which activity/square you want to undertake.

  • You can aim to do activities in a way that earns yourself a BINGO -  5 activities across the same row, down the same column or across diagonally from upper left corner to lower right, and/or upper right corner to lower left. OR

  • You can just go about your day picking one activity to engage in and work towards doing all the activities on this B Well card (but see notes on making adjustments below).

  • You can choose to go row by row or column by column each week. Thank you @Mellmars1185 , for sharing this approach!
⚠️  Make Adjustments As Needed - We are all at different stages of our wellness / self-care journey. While it can be good to challenge ourselves, sometimes, it's best to take make adjustments. I'm not at expert at this at all, and if there's an activity that is not something you are ready for, or one that you should not engage in, make the adjustments you need to, or just skip that square altogether.
 
  • Be Safe. Consider weather conditions and your health and physical condition before engaging in any activities listed. For activities you're unsure of, especially the physial ones, before starting an activity, consult with your physician or health care professional before make any adjustments, if and as appropriate.

 

  • Duration For Activities. As you will see, some activities include in parenthesis a time period. These are arbitrary and should be taken as a suggestion. If you are able to safely spend more time performing the activty, go for it. If it's better to start out with a shorter time period, do so. If you're starting out or are aware of certain conditions that may make it more challenging to engage in the activity listed, please discuss with your physician or health care provider before starting, and adjust accordingly.

Week 2 was a low key but equally enjoyable and restorative week for self-care.

Warm & Cozy Drink:  There's been a couple of hot chocolate nights this week, the most recent one with a pink heart-shaped marshmallow and what was intended to be a chocolate molten lava cake but ended up being tasting more of cake than lava. Still yummy. 😋 
 
Digital Detox Before Bed (30 minutes): I backslid a bit this week with my digital detox before bed, but did manage to get in a couple nights of unplugging for 30+ minutes before bed. I could notice a difference in my mood (and face - hello, dark circles, grrr!) between the nights I was off my phone and the ones when I wasn't. 😔 It happens; will try to do better this weekend and next week. 🤞 
 
Enjoy a childhood favorite: I loved noodles as a kid; I still do, I just don't have them as often. My parents would make Singapore-style noodles for us from time to time, but without the curry powder and chili peppers to accommodate our taste buds. I went the more traditional route, but substituted chili oil since I didn't have chili peppers on hand, and went with tofu and veggies instead of char sui (Chinese BBQ pork) and shrimp. I followed the recipe at the Feasting At Home blog, for the most part.
 
Be Kind To Yourself: This one never really comes without some thought and deliberateness, whether the self care activity involves "speaking" kindly or being kind.  This week, being kind to myself took the form of being consistent with boundaries and saying 'no' to certain things to protect my time and energy, so that I can have time and energy for other things.
 
Music - Audiobook - Podcast - Nature: Going into the year, I wasn't reading as much or as often as I was last year, which is fine. I have been getting back into it, though at a more leisured pace, and started on a new book this week. 
 
Body Care: Spent some extra time this week stretching, exercising, doing yoga, and using my PEMF mat and doing a foot soak for my recovery time.

Yummy! Molten cakes are a favorite here. My kiddo always choses that particular dessert whenever it's an option.  The heart with the matching drink looks lovely. Sorry to hear it was missing the right amount of lava, that's a pretty delicious component. 🍫💝

@CynthieLu, thank you. The lava wasn't as gooey as I would have preferred, but it happens - gives me another reason to try it again another day.

Gooey is everything in a lava cake and I believe you are going too find a good one out there. 🙏🍫  It's funny, I mentioned we do order this alot from varying places and it can really be surprising where you find the best one.  @itsfi There's a tiny hole in the wall restaurant up North in the middle of nowhere that I remember having the best one we've ever had.

@CynthieLu, yeah, the size of the mold/ramekin was too small for what I wanted; lesson learned. I'll stick to my regular-sized ramekin or use a larger "mini" heart shaped one next time. 

 

So fun to try food / dessert from different places and that's wonderful you have a spot you like. I love hole-in-the-wall restaurants in the middle of no-where as much as I love Michelin-star fine dining in urban settings. I've always said "good food is good food." 😋

I'm off to a pretty good start! 

Movie/Art/Photo- had my first photo shoot of the year on the 2nd

  • Spoiler

  • Aromatherapy- Days off have candles/wax melts going. They haven't been on for long though, I seem to be getting sensitive to them right now.
  • Warm & Cozy- I bought a milk frother thing a while back and we love making hot chocolate in it. Granted the kind I had on the way to work was no bueno. 
  • Exercise- 2 of my last 3 days at work was spent mostly going up and down stairs and climbing ladders. I joked to my brother that my quads are going to be so big they won't fit into my skinny jeans anymore.
  • Digital Detox- I did some reading instead of doom scrolling on my phone. I also did some coloring, that was on the phone but it kept me off social media.
  • Childhood- We've been enjoying grilled cheese sandwiches lately, and some spaghetti o's. 
  • Scented Body Products- Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Butta Drop Whipped Oil Hydrating Body Cream Mini "Fenty Fresh"  
  • Something New- Went to my first NHL game ever on the 2nd. We lost but it was fun!

Week 1 Check In

  • Check in with a friend - FOCUS: Them: Checked in with a friend and had a good gabfest to see how the holidays and new year had been for her and to see how she was doing as she works on transitioning to another career.
 
  • Pay It Forward: An unexpected opportunity presented itself and I was happy to have been there to take hold of it. 
 
  • Check in with a friend, FOCUS: You: It seems I was meant to be sharing about myself this past weekend and this week - I had a couple of friends reach out to check in on me this past weekend, and have plans to grab coffee with another later today. It's good to have those opportunities to touch base with people you trust and who know you, to talk about the good stuff and the harder, more challenging things life presents. #blessed #grateful 
 
  • Seasonal fruits & veggies: Green smoothies are back! Well, they never really went away; I'm just making them more during the week. This one included blueberries, kiwi, mango, papaya, pineapple, kale, spinach, a couple cubes of ice, a splash of orange juice, and chia seeds.
 
 
  • Stretch: Oftentimes I have my set schedule for stretching and sometimes, my body tells me when I need an ad hoc stretch session, lol. I spent some time stretching my right calf and so as to not make it feel left out, my left calf, as well. 😉 Tightness gone. Ahhhh.

Fantastic wellness this week @itsfi  I really love the nourishing communication in your connections were for you this week and how you showed up for them. This is such a beautiful read as it holds so much meaning! I love the look of that smoothie that does look delicious I don’t know if yall have smoothie king is Canada but I I used to get this matcha one it had strawberries chefs kiss haha. Love the lotion! And self care. I hope you have an amazing weekend ❤️

@peculiarzmakeup, thank you so much. Being present and listening are such meaningful ways of honoring someone. As is being engaged, both when we're on the receiving end of attention and the focus is on us and when it's on the other person. The former is a work in progress for me; not always the easiest or most comfortable, but we do the work and we keep at it - good days, bad days, in between days ... 

 

I remember you mentioning Smoothie King ... last year, I think it was? There used to be Smoothie Kings in California but that I think was before I heard of them. Oooh, strawberry and matcha is a delicious combination! Yum!! I'll have to keep them in mind when traveling. It's a bit chilly for smoothies but I felt like one and had a lot of fruits and veggies on hand that needed to be used so it worked out really well! All this talk of smoothies is making me want to make one now. Ha!

Warm and Cozy Drink

Had some Lipton tea with honey it was very good I feel like it’s so relaxing and really helps wind whatever I’m doing down. I wish I had a lemon I always like adding lemon. 

Childhood Favorite

Spending time with my siblings has always been a fave of mine my brother got home from a trip and I got to catch up with him. I also remember as a kid my grandma going to Starbucks everyday I got her this crystal she loves it it has a little Starbucks cup it’s so stinkin cute!

Fruit and Veggie 

Enjoyed my favorite fruit Grapefruit I actually ate the whole jar it’s so tasty and I love the juice. Still working on veggies and finding a fave.

I rarely share my writing. When I was in grade school I struggled with writing but very proud of my poems! 
I wrote one about what wellness means to me!

Sometimes discouraged

That is okay, just live in the moment, each step comes as it may

Remaining teachable to lessons.

My nickname is “the fish” I drink probably too much water haha but I’m planning on using my water bottle that has the marker for ounces to keep track.
