It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!! The holidays are coming!!! πππ
Since the previous 2 years I had a similar thread I thought I would bring it back again this year. Come and share your beauty or holiday tips, stories or anything that stood out for you during 2018 as we count down the days to a new year and celebrate the different holidays.
If you guys want... I can do the daily questions again. Starting December 1st, each day a new question will be asked related to either the holidays or beauty for 2018. If you have a question you would like me to use please pm me. Iβll add it to the list and tag you when itβs posted.
Now let's P-A-R-T-Y!!!!!!

@jozkid I love this smell as well! I have the pinecones all over my house that smell of cinnamon and apple cinnamon candles!
Best,
Rebecca
Yum!!! π @jozkid
@jozkid I agree!
My favorite winter scents are wood and woodsmoke. Theyβre really 2 of my favorite year-round scents, but in winter they remind me of sitting by lit fireplaces and food in smokers. (My father sometimes smokes a roast or turkey for Christmas.) Some people hate the smell of burning wood and smoke, but to me itβs very comfortingβas long as Iβm not in a burning building. π Iβm always looking for a candle that truly captures that fire smoke smell. WoodWick Fireside comes close, and I love the crackling wicks on all the WW candles.
One of my favorite perfumes any time of year, but especially in winter, is Lush Rentless. It seems to spark memories in people: whenever I wear it, people tell me it reminds them of a time/place/event. A strangerβs little kid once told me I smelled like Christmas. Another stranger told me about his annual deep woods camping trip with his brother and father. My memory is decorating the family Christmas tree.
I love cedar all year, including December. But specifically for winter holidays, I also love pine. Ginger, clove, allspice, orange peel, and cardamom smell best in winter, especially when you add an herbal note like basil or rosemary. And mulled wine smells fantastic.
@WinglessOne I LOVE wood and wood smoke too! But I am very picky about it as well. I basically want to smell like a camp fire. π The best scent I found for this was Diptyque Feu de Bois. OMG it smells so nice! I have the candles and was lucky that @pixiedust2 bought me a bottle of the room spray when she was abroad. Just wish they made a perfume of it!
I think I might need to go sniff Lush Rentless now. π
Oh Le Labo makes a nice cedar scent. It's called cedre 11.
@veronika23 @WinglessOne ok now I need to find this Lush scent. Sounds so good! Iβm burning my BBW Fireside candles right now and pretending Iβm at a campfire π₯ π
Ohhh nice!!! @pixiedust2 So happy to see you on here!!!
@veronika23 @WinglessOne oh and I forgot! I also got a candle called Yuletide at BBW. Itβs very piney. Also has notes of rosemary and a Smokey vanilla. You both might like it. Take a whiff if you happen to see it in store.
Thanks! I'll try and remember that! @pixiedust2
@veronika23 Oooh, Iβll look for that Diptyque candle! Campfire (and bonfire) is another scent I love thatβs hard to find. So far, every candle Iβve smelled with βcampfireβ or βbonfireβ in its name has been a letdown. Clearly I just need to build a fire pit in my apartmentβbut you know, fire safety code and lease rules and whatnot. π
I love Cedre 11. β€οΈ I need to buy more, which means a trip to my local Le Labo storeβwhich means Iβll probably leave with more than one item.
@WinglessOne you'll have to let me know what you think once you've smelled it! Yeah that scent for me is what it smells like in "cottage country" and that's a scent I am always trying to replicate. I want to smell that year round! Hahahahaha clearly! πππ
It is a very nice cedar scent right! Oh what other scents do you like from Le Labo?
@veronika23 I was gonna wait to reply until Iβd visited Le Labo to buy a Santal 26 candle, but my body decided an afternoon shower is all the physical effort I can muster today. (Iβm battling whatever cold-like crud I just caught, ugh.) Iβve never tried that candle, even though I love the Santal 33 perfumeβwhich is probably why I also love Commodity Book. The Santal candleβs on my try and buy list.
I also like Le Laboβs pine & lavender candle. And a friend of mine keeps their basil hand soap in her half bath. Whenever I use it, I tell myself I should buy a bottle. (Note to self!)
What are your faves, aside from the cedar candle?
@WinglessOne sorry you are battling a cold right now. π I hope you feel better soon! Oh cool! I think I have a sample of Commodity's book perfume somewhere... not sure if I would like the pine and lavender... not a huge fan of lavender. lol
I actually don't have anything else from them... I might have samples but I'm not sure... I need to take a look at what I have... it's a bit of a mess right now. π I'm sensitive to scents and also ultra picky so I usually stick to a few favs... although I've been searching for a while for a wearable campfire scent. π
Oh, one year I made pomanders! They smell great!
@pocketvenus Mmmm, 2 of my favorite holiday scents! I havenβt made these in a long time but I think I will this week. π
Depends on how I am feeling that day but itβs a toss up between an apple or cranberry scent or something with musk and woodsy.
I love this question! I could rattle off a list of perfumes but I feel like I already do that enough here so a list of my favourite festive essential oils this time of year are
Some blends that have been going through my room
You make your own blends @pocketvenus? Where do you buy them?
@veronika23, yes I prefer to make my own blends. I've amassed a wee collection over the years. The vast majority I've bought from a store called Anarres that stocks New Directions Aromatics and some other wholesale brands in bulk, so it's basically like buying bulk groceries except it's essential oils. The packaging is a handwritten sticker label and it's more affordable. Otherwise, to buy directly from New Directions, I think you need a minimum $100 order. I have EOs you don't normally find in health food stores like labdanum, calamus, acacia, and so on.
@pocketvenus cool! It's nice that you can buy it in bulk! It's one thing I haven't really gotten into yet... I mean I've tried a few but so far I've mainly stuck to candles and room sprays. π
@veronika23, those are wonderful too π One of the candles I like right now, even though it's not very festive, is Mssr. Blanchy from Boy Smells. I also looooooove incense π
