Hi @arstern97 and welcome to BIC! Sounds like you have very dry and sensitive undereyes like I do. (The rest of my face is mostly-dry combo; my oily zone’s just on and around my nose.) Does that skin get flaky, in addition to burning? You might wanna see a dermatologist or other medical doctor about that, if you can. It could just be your full face moisturizer irritating the skin around your eyes (contact dermatitis), but if there’s an underlying skin condition, it’s best to know about that so you’ll know how to treat it going forward. Meanwhile: have you tried using plain ol’ Vaseline or another petrolatum balm as an eye cream? I sometimes have to apply it along my lower lash line before bed to avoid waking up with angry flakies there. Petrolatum’s the most occlusive (water loss preventing) moisturizing skincare ingredient available (aside from hydrocolloid patches), and it’s unlikely to irritate skin. Tap a little water on your undereye skin to get it damp—not soaking wet—then apply Vaseline to seal in hydration. You could also try layering a facial oil under Vaseline to help smooth any flakiness and add an extra layer of moisturization. For that, I recommend either The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil for Skin Elascicity 1 oz/ 30 mL or The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane for Skin and Hair Hydration 1 oz/ 30 mL . You won’t need to use much: one drop of either of those two oils is plenty enough to cover both undereyes, with some oil left over to use elsewhere (the skin around your fingernails, for instance).
