Skincare Diaries

We all have our skincare stories, journeys, adventures, and even nightmares. We like to read about skincare, we like to talk skincare. Do you want to share your skincare journey? Concerns you want to address, and the way you address them? Personal challenges? Products you use? Products you want to try? Results? Get something off your chests? Are you happy with where your skin is at? Do you want to talk about it all, or just "keep a diary" and compare notes? This is the place then to share your skincare stories, or any thoughts on anything skincare you feel like sharing, personal or in general. Skincare diaries will take it all.

We already have many great skincare threads, but sometimes it feels like some thoughts "don't belong" to any of those threads, and will just clog them unnecessarily. So, I just wanted to make a place for all and any random ( or not so random ) skincare thoughts, notes, stories, and all the other bits and pieces that feel like they "don't belong". Feel free to stop by and make it your personal diary!

Bump

Re: Skincare Diaries

Bump!

Re: Skincare Diaries

Once upon a time when I was a teenager, my skin was oily. Oily skin, I miss you!

Re: Skincare Diaries

@lyravega,

Who ever thought we would say that?  😉

Re: Skincare Diaries

@tsavorite  Not 16 year old me, that's for sure. She'd tell me: "You're crazy, old-timer!".

Re: Skincare Diaries

My skincare diary;

I love skincare!

I love using luxury skincare . I am now buying more skincare, than makeup items. I love the Natural thread and have been trying organic and natural based products. I am finding it fun to do my ritual now and really enjoy the results.

I love that I can use the natural skincare with my strong acids.

I LOVE Dr Dennis Gross peels. I use them all of the time. They are a fantastic peel for me. Very effective.

I have not dabbled into an injectables or lasers yet. I do want to try a few IPL treatments .

My issues are preventing aging. I am ok with getting some lines. I just like to keep my smooth texture and plump skin.

Ty for starting this thread! 🙂 I love all of  the skincare threads, lol.

Re: Skincare Diaries

Thank you for sharing, @luvgloss13  !

You are so sweet!

Re: Skincare Diaries

I have a lot of redness in my face (but not rosacea), and it seems like nothing I do helps. Products specifically meant to help redness make things worse too — Ren's evercalm line caused a ton of tiny whiteheads all over my face, and Paula's choice redness relief serum actually made my face redder (to the point that my husband actually noticed and commented).

My mom has always had a lot of redness in her face too so its probably just something genetic, but I just wish the redness would go away or lessen up.

If anyone has any suggestions for products I should try, please let me know.

Re: Skincare Diaries

I have a lot of redness.

I love Niaminicide in my skincare. I do not use it with any other actives. It repairs the skin barrier and in about 1 month, you will see less redness and irritation.

I am currently using Chantecaill'e Rose de mai , it has a healthy dose of it.

Re: Skincare Diaries

Thanks @luvgloss13 !

My sunscreen (Elta MD UV Clear) has a good dose of niacinamide. I think it helps a little, but not a ton for me.

Re: Skincare Diaries

@skcfan Have you tried any products with azelaic acid? I know they help with redness.

Now I need to look into your sun screen lol. 🙂

Re: Skincare Diaries

@luvgloss13 I have the azelaic acid from the ordinary, but I'm not a super big fan of the formula. It's a very thick silicone base that's hard to spread evenly, so I haven't used it regularly. I know azelaic acid is supposed to help a ton, so I really should prioritize finding a product I like with some.

Re: Skincare Diaries

@skcfan it really does help and I need to go back to it myself!

I used to use Jan Marini cream, it helped with clogs too.

If you find a formula, please tag me? ty and gl! 🙂

Re: Skincare Diaries

@skcfan  I have a lot of redness too... do you think you could have couperose?

Re: Skincare Diaries

@veronika23 hmmmm.... the pictures when I google that look like my mom's skin. I went to the derm a year-ish ago to ask about Rosacea, and she told me it wasn't that. I'll make an appointment and ask about couperose. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Skincare Diaries

@skcfan. you could have a very light version of it like me :). I mean I do have a lot of redness because it seems at times it's everywhere or I just feel like it is but it's not as bad as some pictures especially when it calms down. Rosacea comes with bumps in the skin and inflammation while couperose is like little broken capillaries but the skin is not inflamed.  Now there are no products that will take that away but some products do help with the redness (more on that later).

If you do have couperose (confirm with derm) you can ask your derm for  a laser procedure to help removed the redness/broken capillaries but it's expensive, painful and you might need a few treatments.  I had it done once and since my skin wasn't a serve case it helped a lot and I didn't need to go back... fast forward years later though and I would need to go back now LOL.

Also if you find you flush red often sometimes certain foods can have an effect on this too like alcohol, caffeine or sugar but everyone is different.  You could always consult a naturopath to see what foods you are sensitive to and eliminate those from your diet. Could possibly help with the redness.

Ok so back to products... Some do help with the redness but it does not completely go away like I mentioned above.  I find my skin reacts better to natural products... not that they are all ok, some can irritate your skin but my skin likes natural best. I've been testing a lot of skin care so my brain is all over the place at the moment but I would look into Odacite serums. More specifically Ca+C | Sensitive Skin and Ap+P | Fragile Capillaries.  If you have dry skin on top of that I'd suggest looking into Consonant HydrExtreme. It's a very light water like essence that packs a hydration punch.  I just know that my skin likes it a lot and I think it also helps with the redness a bit.

If the derm ends up confirming that you do have couperose I believe that also means your skin is more fragile and sensitive (like mine) so be careful when trying and looking up products.

Hope this helps.

Re: Skincare Diaries

@veronika23 Thank you so much for all this information! It's very very helpful. I'll definitely be making an appointment with the derm asap

Re: Skincare Diaries

@skcfan   you are welcome! Hope you get answers!

Re: Skincare Diaries

I am working on this issue too, and I am not very knowledgeable in the world of skincare, though I intend to remedy that over the next year. There is so much to learn.

But I would like to note that I seem to get immediate, very temporary relief by using products that plump up the skin, such as things with hyaluronic acid.

They seem to make a real difference, but only for a half, or maybe a whole day if I am lucky.

A thing I plan to try next is UV blocking in my bedroom windows. I will have to decide on some materials to use. There's a whole patio door to cover plus 4 windows. Hubby needs natural light to wake up so I can't just hang heavy curtains.

Re: Skincare Diaries

Thanks @gingerleigh! HA definitely helps some. I might have to try UV blocking my windows as well. I usually wear sunscreen everyday, but on days that I'm in too much of a rush or too lazy  I can see a difference in the redness by the end of the day.

Re: Skincare Diaries

@lyravega I just got my Paula's Choice C15 Super Booster in the mail today.  I can't wait to try it.  I just hope it applies easily, because I read it was hard to get it to spread.  upload_4817724054448124281.png
