SPF suggestions

I am a girl in a mission to get her SPF game together. Especially, after my dermatologist explained that my skin is highly sensitive to not only sunlight, but indoor light like HEV, blue light, Infrared light. Candlelight life, anyone? I'm interested in any form of SPF, be it in the form of a serum, primer, powder, moisturizer, etc. In particular, the scent and comfortability of a product is key because I am, unfortunately, scent sensitive and who likes the stiff, gooey feeling of some old-school sunscreen. Thanks!!!

Re: SPF suggestions

@TypeATina I really like the JOSIE MARAN - Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 .

It's kind of thick but very moisturizing. It's a mineral formula but it doesn't break me out and though it has a slight fragrance it's not overpowering and dissipates quickly. I tried the COOLA Sun Silk Face Sunscreen Drops with SPF 30 and Hyaluronic Acid 1 oz / 30 mL  and though they were really nice on my skin I felt that they weren't providing enough protection. If I need something more lightweight I go for the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence which is super light weight and it's a chemical sunscreen that you won't feel on your skin.

Re: SPF suggestions

The JM Argan Oil Daily Moisturizer SPF47 is my year round daytime moisturizer @makeitup305. I highly recommend it @TypeATina . I do have dry skin BTW.

Re: SPF suggestions

@Loretta55  I have normal to dry but I live in AZ so I definitely need the moisture. I l really like it but someone with oily skin would probably hate this .

Thanks! I will totally look into the Josie Maran product (SPF 47! yay) for summer outdoor use.

Re: Thanks! I will totally look into the Josie Maran product...

@TypeATina I really like it. If I let it absorb a bit and use a primer on top it doesn't affect my makeup at all. Have you seen this one? Idk if you prefer mineral or chemical sunscreens but this is a new release that's available from Coola at Ulta. 1CAF4D17-A883-486A-B8B2-DEDC431F54EA.jpeg

It seems to be the mineral version of the COOLA Sun Silk Face Sunscreen Drops with SPF 30 and Hyaluronic Acid 1 oz / 30 mL

Re: SPF suggestions

Hi @TypeATina ,

I love the COOLA Sun Silk Face Sunscreen Drops with SPF 30 and Hyaluronic Acid 1 oz / 30 mL This wears so well under make up and applies smoothly to the face.  The smell is not really strong but there is a sunscreeny smell to it.

I hope this helps!

Best Wishes,

Janean

Thanks! After so many suggestions, I went ahead and purchased the COOLA drops as well as the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. I can't wait for them to arrive.

RE: SPF suggestions

I really LOVE the Giorgio Armani spf/primer! It’s amazing! Also the shishedo roll on. It’s sooooo easy and great on the go!

RE: SPF suggestions

I wear SPF everyday (so should everyone) my Favorite is Coola mineral. It wears so well under makeup! Plus I love the fact it looks matte!

I love Kiehl's Super Fluid Daily UV Defense SPF 50+. It's got antioxidants and helps defend against pollution, too (which is a big plus for me since I live in an urban area). The finish is very light and works great under makeup. There's no cast or weird filmy look on bare skin either. It's the only sunscreen I've found that I don't mind putting on every day! Glossier's Invisible Shield SPF 35 Daily Sunscreen is probably my 2nd favorite, but it can look a bit too "dewy" on me sometimes. The Kiehl's has more of a matte finish.

Thanks! I'm a city girl myself so I will check out the Kiehels product ASAP. I actually avoid the sun at all costs, but I'm learning the hard way that pollution along with indoor, blue light, etc also effects the skin.

If blue light is a concern, look into Supergoop's product...

If blue light is a concern, look into Supergoop's products. I recently got a sample of the Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40, and they have a few other products that offer blue light protection too. The Unseen is intended to double as a makeup primer, so it does feel very silicone-y if applied/reapplied liberally. For that reason, I like it more as just a makeup primer with the added bonus of being a second layer of sunscreen on top of the Kiehl's. The Supergoop SPF 40 moisturizer isn't too bad either. I'd probably like it a whole lot more if I had drier skin: it's a little too rich for my skin type.

Re: SPF suggestions

@TypeATina I have sensitive skin and rosacea, and I’m partial to EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46. I use it as my AM moisturizer and sunscreen (thanks, niacinamide!), and I love its texture and lack of white cast. It has a bit of zinc oxide smell - it’s 9%, whereas my old sunscreen was 4% - but it goes away. I haven’t experienced a breakout or rosacea flare from it, so I give it two thumbs way up!

Thanks! I'm definitely going to look into EltaMD because I absolutely need a moisturizer as well as sun protection. My dermatologist thinks that I could have rosacea (although most of what is happening is a result of having Lupus... which comes with photosensitivity). Are there any other products that you find useful for redness/dryness?

Re: Thanks! I'm definitely going to look into EltaMD because...

I would definitely check out the EltaMD UV clear. It's a cult dermatologist favorite and I really like that sunscreen. It is a combination physical/chemical sunscreen so it truly covers all of the UVA/UVB spectrum and it's unscented. It has a slightly thicker consistency but it's not sticky.  My other favorite sunscreen is the La Roche Posay Anthethelios ultra light fluid. It's a chemical sunscreen and also unscented. It's super liquidy and absorbs like instantly so it's what I prefer to use everyday.

If your skin is overly sensitive, especially with rosacea etc, unscented physical sunscreens will give you the least irritation. EltaMD have a pure physical sunscreen also. You can get the EltaMD products from dermstore.com

Thanks! I love DE! Unfortunately, one of the first products I purchased was DE Umbra SPF but it didn't offer enough protection which was truly upsetting because I loved that it was unscented and it didn't irritate my skin at all.

Hi! So Sephora usually sells a sampler of like 10 to 12 small sunscreens, I really recommend it so you can try a lot of types and see what works best. Idk how sensitive your skin is but for me it was nice bc it takes a couple days to see if it will affect acne, makeup etc. I hope this helps!

Thanks! An SPF sampler sounds literally perfect!

Re: SPF suggestions

A friend of mine loves COOLA Sun Silk Face Sunscreen Drops with SPF 30 and Hyaluronic Acid 1 oz / 30 mL  for his HEV sensitivity. I’m considering trying it myself, to alternate with my usual COOLA - Mineral Face SPF 30 - Matte Tint which doesn’t include HEV in its broad spectrum protection.
