PTR giving SkinCeuticals a run for their money?

Skinceutical’s name-to-fame is their 24x winning C E Ferulic. Today I discovered Peter Thomas Roth’s new Potent-C Power Serum. The main differences between the two being PTR has amped up the doses of vitamins C and E and ferulic and is nearly half the price of SkinCeuticals’s C E Ferulic. PTR’s vitamin c choice of delivery is THD ascorbate, which is more shelf stable than l-ascorbic and is believed to absorb just as well. I also have to note PTR Potent-C has a much longer ingredient list. I’m not sure it’s worth weighing in or not. I would love to here some thoughts and/or expertise!881577CE-A248-48B3-AF2D-1940CB921F0F.jpeg

Isn’t my little comparison chart cute? 🙃

Wow that is a whole kitchen sink of other stuff in there... some of this is probably trend-chasing, since everyone is getting hot on ginger and turmeric this year. Not excited to see the caprylyl methicone so high on the list though. I think this is designed to feel and smell nice when you put it on your skin, and a lot of this is filler to bring the price point down. Like, what is the point of having any mica in there? Probably a bit of shimmery eye candy as it comes out of the bottle and an easy way to get "it makes me glow!" reviews.

It might be a perfectly decent product but these are definitely targeting two different audiences, and I don't think the PTR is a sub, just hitting some of the same notes (and maybe trying to peel away a layer of SC's customer base, let's not kid ourselves 😂).

I like your chart 👍👌

@fieldsofclover I really appreciate your input! These are the kinds of thing I need to hear about. I’m not as familiar as I’d like to be with skincare ingredient extras. Although, I did wonder the same thing about the mica, lmao @“it makes me glow!” 😂. I was also thinking the additional ingredients may neutralize the potency balance between the two.

I don’t know much about caprylyl methicone and I’m glad you brought it up. I’m going to research it now. I shall begin to learn more, one ingredient at a time!
