Thank you @Aaliaa for starting this thread, and giving us a place to share our love for masks๐
@missjeanie, your "you should snag these masks" album is a wonderful idea. ๐ I'm definitely trying (that's the operative word) to be better about which masks I pick up going forward. A work in progress, I say.
Oh my goodness! Dehydrated skin. And dry and sensitive too on top of that. Ugh. Drinking lots of water and incorporating oils into my morning and evening skincare routines have been helping. And, reaching for hydrating, moisturizing and/or soothing masks too! My face looks like someone spilled a bottle of oil on it every night. Hahaha! And my skin soaks it all up by morning. How are things going for you? I imagine it's still cold where you are, yes?
@itsfi Ive actually found just saving a photo to an album on my phone works out way better for me than trying to save a list. It works so well in fact that I logged online this morning to order some SPF from overseas and ended up with a couple masks. Iโm still at about 600 ish masks so this was in no way shape or form needed... but.... science. At least I held off on the 10 packs lol.
I think weโre using the same skin care regime these days. I swear Iโm so dehydrated that even products I can usually roll with just fine are too much. Iโll be stocking up on oil this sale for sure. Was tempted to just dunk my face in olive oil last week at one point.
Still a bit chilly up here, but weโre above freezing during the dayโs and the sun is out more and more so I canโt complain. Maple sap is flowing and keeping everyone busy and fill of pancakes!
Happy Easter to you and your family!
@missjeanie, I've changed my lists and how they use them, but your album approach is a sound one. My old approach used to just list the name and possibly a few notes, if I remembered to put them down; still have that one, but it's more for historical purposes if I need to look something up from before.
Oh my goodness, yes! Completely agree. I hadn't planned on picking up more oils, thinking that what I have would be fine with the transition to spring/summer, but nope. What I had set aside to circle back to in the fall have been pulled back! I hear you on products aren't working quite the same way. I have my oils for the dryness, the hydrators for dehydration, and then a couple of products for sensitive skin. At some point I should probably figure out how to re-incorporate my "anti-aging" items in there, but for now, it's triaging and getting into a good routine with dry, dehydrated and sensitive in spring / summer. Always something, isn't it?!
Yes to SPF, missjeanie!!! There are some good formulations here, but I find myself having a preference for Japanese or Korean sunblock. Okay, I have to admit that I read your post really quickly at first and accidently read "still at about 600 ish masks" as part of the sentence before and thought you had picked up some SPF overseas and ended up with a couple 600 masks! Hahaha! ๐คฃ As you can imagine, that caught my attention really quick. I thought "a couple 600 masks?!! ๐ฒ Did she find a really good sale? Buy one SPF, get 600 masks!" lol. Clearly, I needed to slow things down and read a lot more carefully. lol. I'm chuckling at myself even now. Silly, Fi!!
Happy Easter to you and your family!! Fill up on those pancakes and yummy maple! ๐๐๐
@itsfi Same here on the anti-aging.... I swear masks dry out my skin so badly! Iโm scared to see how many I grabbed, but I know it wasnโt 600!! I have been good about daily masking so I know Iโll be lower come New Years 2022 than 2021, but i need to get this collection pared down lol, Iโm just trying to picture where I could fit another 600!! Iโd be like Scrooge mcduck swimming in them all!
@missjeanie, masks dry out your skin? Are your sheet masks making your skin more dry?
You will get your mask stash down! You've been doing a fab job! Just keep chipping away at it like you have been and it'll get whittled down before you know it.
oh... no @itsfi my fabric non-medical masks are drying out my skin. I find that when I do go in to work and have one on for 4 or 5 hours straight my skin is dried out afterwards. My sheet masking has been saving me. Admittedly I've been using a lot of masks that aren't specifically for moisturizing/hydrating, but I find just the fact that I've been including them more often and doing all of my hydrating serums and oils on top of them has been helping. If I was trying to get away with just cleansing and moisturizing while having to wear a cloth mask for 4-5 hours 4 times a week I swear my skin would actually crack.
Ahhh, gotcha @missjeanie! Yes, those masks!! Sigh. We're in the same boat missjeanie! Have you tried silk lined masks?
No, @itsfi I have not. I've been using mostly triple sheeted cotton ones with a filter insert. Now you've got me thinking though.... I have some silk fabric here I could easily add as a lining to a few to test out. Or .... I could just order a couple. lol Do you have a favourite?
@missjeanie, if you have silk fabric at home, that is an excellent way to go!
I've purchased a couple through amazon - it's "Celestial Silk face mask" - they have ones with a nose wire and ones without. If you are double masking and your other mask has a wire, no need for the silk one to have a wire too. I've picked up a couple for the work week and just wash and rotate them. They have pleated and unpleated ones - I like the unpleated ones. Since I switched over to them, my skin has been doing much better.
I went into work last week and I forgot to take one of the silk masks with me that day. Instead, I grabbed the triple layered cotton one and ugh. Those are fine if I'm running the quick errand, grocery run, etc. but my skin hated me after having it on all day. Huge lesson learned ... again.
@itsfi Great tip! I'm off to peruse Amazon now, I'll take any help I can get with how dry I've been. I'm an actual shiny disco ball at bed time with the oils and balms then this morning... flakey skin.
@missjeanie, ugh. I'm so sorry. ๐
I've been getting up in the middle of the night and when I do, I now reapply oil to my face because . . . why not?! ๐ I'm making my irregular sleeping patterns work in my favor this way at least. Do you use a humidifier? I've found that to help a little.
@itsfi I have a humidifier hooked up to the furnace so I do use that, and then I also go old school and put mason jars of water over the registers on the floor. I've been having weird sleeping issues as well. I might need to start training myself to put some on when I wake up then too! I just got up and put a jar beside my bed. We'll see if sleepy me can remember!
It took me a while to get into a habit of reapplying the oil, but I feel like it's helped some, @missjeanie - less dry patches on certain areas of my face. Good luck and I hope it helps!
@itsfi My favorite ingrรฉdient right now:).
Itโs quickly becoming mine as well @heartsmyface! ๐
@itsfi I hope itโs been helping you with the mask sensitivity. It has been for me. Almost no redness save for a bit on the edges of my nose. Iโm kicking myself for not thinking basic ingredients sooner cause it was so sore.
@heartsmyface, oils seem to be saving my face, with horse oil and marula oil really working overtime. Thank you, thank you!! I was doing really well except for a blip last week which has lead to some redness again, so I'm resetting and my skin has been responding happily to it. ๐ I may need to stock up on more horse oil and pick up some marula oil during the sale.
Completely agree with a back to basics routine or sticking with basic ingredients. I have a pretty pared down AM routine now, and my PM one is fairly simple and straightforward as well, but has a few extra serums, essences, etc. off to the side if I need to deal with a specific skin condition. This actually helped with my decluttering skincare - if I have a backup of anything that I'm currently using that isn't spectacular, it automatically gets donated or gifted; even if it's a good but not great product; no if, ands or buts about it . . . well, none have come up so far. lol
I got a giggle out of this yesterday and had to share!
@missjeanie Hahaha! I remembered it was the 1st, but was totally forgetting the holiday associated with it ๐ It took me a second to figure out what was going on here ๐คฃ
I think this year was a pretty tame April fools @Shosh85 , I saw a few cute posts on social media, but nothing too outlandish.
@missjeanie @eshoe that is great!!
