Glam glow supermud clearing treatment

Glam Glow super mud clearing treatment just burnt my face. It was my second time using it. The first time nothing happened. But the second time I put my face and felt burning all over after washing it here is the result. Disappointment. I don't understand why those people still selling this!!!!!!WhatsApp Image 2022-09-25 at 9.13.28 PM.jpegWhatsApp Image 2022-09-25 at 9.13.27 PM.jpeg

Re: Glam glow supermud clearing treatment

@nazliican Ouch! Sorry you had a bad reaction to that mask. 😞 I'm sure by now you've done things to help your skin heal: cold compress, any soothing anti-inflammatory ingredients you know your skin likes (mine loves colloidal oats and licorice root), etc. I hope your skin feels better now.

About Glamglow Supermud: I've never used it because my reactive/inflammation-prone skin would throw a big ol' fit over the peppermint oil in this product; probably the eucalyptus, too. But I wonder how much of each exfoliant (each AHA and salicylic acid) this mask contains. Glamglow doesn't specify any percentages. I say that because to me, the main problem with this product (aside from the essential oil) is Glamglow's usage instructions*:

  • Leave mask on for 5-20 minutes - Up to twenty minutes?! That's a very long time to keep any at-home AHA exfoliant on your skin—and this one also contains potentially irritating peppermint oil. Sounds like a recipe for a painfully broken skin barrier to me. 5 to 10 minutes max is probably safer, and that's only if the essential oil doesn't bother the user's skin.

  • Use 1-3 times a week - Some people's skin can probably tolerate this mask once or twice a week. Three times a week for anyone is overkill. Unless a doctor specifically instructs a patient otherwise, no one needs to exfoliate that frequently. Some folks might tolerate this mask just once every couple of weeks. Patch testing a couple times should help anyone figure out how their skin will handle this mask.

I won't say the product should be yanked from shelves, but I do think Glamglow should update their usage instructions. I'm not a medical doctor or cosmetic chemist, and for all I know, the brand's cosmetic chemist has clinical data to prove the instructions are safe. It's just that some people, like me and apparently you, have skin that won't tolerate this mask. For us, it'd be helpful if Glamglow would state the % of each exfoliant in the formula (so we'd at least know what we're getting into on that front) and reconsider that "up to 20 minutes" craziness. I don't know if their instructions say anything like "start using it just up to 5 minutes at first, and then gradually increase the time as your skin tolerates, up to [ideally 10 minutes max]."

*Side rant: Glamglow's "how-to" video on their own site's product page is completely useless. It doesn't actually give step-by-step instructions. 🙄 I had to hunt down the brand's directions elsewhere. My inner UX/usability designer gets cranky when companies label repetitive marketing fluff as "instructions" or "how-to use."

Re: Glam glow supermud clearing treatment

@nazliican I seem to remember Beautypedia posting a negative review of this product.  Wish they hadn't changed that site around.  I'm so sorry for your reaction.  😞

Re: Glam glow supermud clearing treatment

Ooooh that looks so painful @nazliican

Be very careful with your sensitive skin, I think test products over night on your skin ( inside elbow or behind ear) before using them on your face and take a product of *immediately* if you feel any discomfort.

I hope your skin is OK.  Have you been to a doctor? How are you treating this?

Re: Glam glow supermud clearing treatment

Oh wow.. that’s why I always test on skin first applying a small patch . 😤 update us on what products use to heal skin/how long it took

Re: Glam glow supermud clearing treatment

@nazliican I am sorry to hear about your experience. Hopefully the redness calms down for you
