Advise for facial Chicken Skin/Keratosis Pilaris?

IMG_0218.jpeg

Does anyone have advice for Chicken Skin (Keratosis Pilaris)? I have it on both my arms and face, specifically around my jaw and up towards my cheeks (image). I don’t know if this (chicken skin) is a part, or the cause, of the discoloration issue I have with my cheeks but they are red and patchy. The bumps from the chicken skin are minimal but I can’t think of any other cause for the patchy skin. The patchy skin makes the evenness of applying makeup like bronzer and blush difficult. If anyone has any sort of advice to treat this it would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏼

I too have these issues. I *just* discovered Oui The People body serum. It's a gentle all over exfoliate. It can be used daily or a few times a week. The results are almost immediate.

I got it as a sample and now it's a staple. I highly recommend trying it. Right now, you can get a 1oz sample as a beauty insider offer on purchases over $30

i have kp too and what really helps for me is using an oil cleanser and and exfoliating cleanser like the Tatcha The Rice Wash Skin-Softening Cleanser  or using some serums from the ordinary like the salicylic acid one and for your arms and legs I use the The INKEY List PHA Exfoliating and Hydrating Body Water Cream 5 oz / 150 ml   it worked pretty much instantly

I have common struggles as you and the cerave Sa cleanser bar works wonders. I use the soap bar in the shower everyday on my arms and face. The First Aid Beauty KP Bump Eraser Body Scrub with 10% AHA – Body Exfoliant for Keratosis Pilaris  is also helps soften my arms I use this 1-2 a week. Also keeping your skin hydrated with lotion can help with the roughness of your bumps .

Hi @annajoii ! Are you sure it’s KP (did a doctor diagnose you)? If yes, I suppose the usual body KP treatments also apply to facial skin.

Exfoliate with an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid: glycolic, lactic, mandelic) to remove some of the dead skin cells clogging your hair follicles. On your face, I recommend doing this just 1-3 times a week unless your doctor says otherwise. My favorite AHA exfoliant is the Paula’s Choice 10%, sold at their site. Sephora does carry Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant 3.3 oz/ 100 mL which has a gel texture. Also consider Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 25% AHA + 2% BHA Exfoliant Peel 1 oz/ 30 mL  once every one or two weeks, depending on your skin’s tolerance level. Less expensive options are The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner 8 oz/ 240 mL  and The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Exfoliating Peeling Solution 1 oz/ 30 mL  .

Urea is another good ingredient for KP: it’s a great hydrator that gently exfoliates. Consider The INKEY List SuperSolutions 10% Urea Moisturizer Textured Skin Solution 1.7 oz / 50 mL  . I think CeraVe still makes a moisturizing cream for diabetics but don’t recall how much urea’s in it. You don’t want to use a product containing 20+% urea on your face.

Oh my goodness! thank you so much!

Yes, I’m sure it’s KP. Although, I was diagnosed years ago in my pre-teens when it was way more prevalent and defined. It never used to bother me until I got more into make up for fun and the patchiness began messing with the final looks. Again, thank you so much for your advice! I have had great results from all of The Ordinary products I’ve used thus far so I will definitely have to try those out. I appreciate all the help!
