Welcome to the 2024 Masking Challenge!
This year is going to be a little different - simplified. Easy. Every month will have a new theme, and that's it. Feel free to join in whenever and wherever. Most importantly - have fun!
Spring Fling - Baskets and bouquets, showers of much-anticipated rain...this month's focus is herbal and floral sensory delights ๐ฎ
January | Fresh Starts - Time for a re-set, or morning masking? However you see it, this month is all about new beginnings. |
February | Winter Love - Whether it's a mask you adore, or something extra-special to care for dry winter skin, this month is for some soothing TLC. |
March | March Madness - Competition is in the air! Find a $ dupe of a $$$ mask that is share-worthy? Or find a dupe that works even better than the original? Details, please! |
April | Spring Fling - Baskets and bouquets, showers of much-anticipated rain...this month's focus is herbal and floral sensory delights. |
May | Dew Drops - May Day lore says to wash your face in the dew you collect in the morning of the first day of May for radiant skin. This month is for absorbing all of that good-for-you H2O. |
June | Summer Sunshine - Ice cream, sunglasses, SPF, check! Once the sun is down (or before it's up), extra care is most necessary. How do you give your skin cooling repair? |

Thank you @Aaliaa for starting this thread, and giving us a place to share our love for masks๐
@itsfi The artwork is just so sweet and simple ๐ Considering the ingredients, I really expected the results to be better. I will most likely try it again just to see if maybe this was one of those one-off experiences.
Cute packaging ๐
โ
@lmaster It's definitely cute, and I love that it smelled like honey, but it's too bad the results weren't more impressive ๐
@Shosh85 I should of applied some serum first, then placed the sheet over it, I didn't realize the sheet wasn't adequately drenched ๐ณ
Turmeric and honey sound like such a great blend, @lmaster. Bummer that it wasnโt as spectacular as it looks!
Looking back @eshoe I should of grabbed some extra serum from the package and applied it after I took the sheet off,,, lol always think of what I should of done,,, too late ๐ฃ
Oh @lmaster I know what you mean. I get annoyed with a mask that refuses to stay put, forgetting all about my silicone mask holder๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ
@lmaster, the scent on this one sounds wonderful; I'm down for a good honey-scented mask. ๐ฏ It being too long at the forehead might actually work well for me. ๐ The packaging is super fun! I looked at the ones from this collection but held off on them to work through my stash.
I found this pack a few months ago at marshalls,, they didn't have much newness, but I had a $10 reward that was itching to be spent @itsfi ๐
A couple of cutely illustrated packaging, each with a X for XOY
Mask: | XOY Calendula Mask | XOY Milk Cream Mask |
Material: | Soy Bean Velvet Mask - soft, thin, stretchy mask that feels comfy and cozy and adheres well | Soy Bean Velvet Mask - soft, thin, stretchy mask that feels comfy and cozy and adheres well |
Fit: | Good - openings for the eyes and mouth are wide enough; adjustments needed to help the material lay flat against the skin. A little too long at the chin and too short at the forehead so those irregularities cancel each other out with a pair of scissors. | Good - openings for the eyes and mouth are wide enough; adjustments needed to help the material lay flat against the skin. A little too long at the chin and too short at the forehead so those irregularities cancel each other out with a pair of scissors. |
Essence / Serum: | Clear, unscented, slightly viscous liquid (standard for sheet masks). Lots of it in the mask and extra in the packet. | Milky, creamy and slightly thin but not runny. Mask holds a lot of this emulsion-like serum and there's extra in the packet as well. |
Claim(s): | Soothing and moisturizing | Brightening and moisturizing |
Performance & Results: | The calendula mask does what it claims as far as soothing and calming go, though I felt it was more hydrating than moisturizing. The mask was still damp when I removed it after 30 minutes; the essence that remained after removal was quickly absorbed, without any tack or stickiness. My skin was left feeling hydrated and with a slightly brighter, fresh-faced, semi-matte appearance. | The mask satisfies its moisturizing claim beautifully. My skin felt nourished after having the mask on for 30 minutes. The brightening effect comes from skin being hydrated and moisturized - it's less strobe light bright and more like a healthy, glowy radiance. |
My Two Cents: | This would make a great mask after a day outdoors - it's very refreshing and calming. It would also be a great mask to keep on hand for some post-sunburn T.L.C. | This is a dream mask for those with dry skin or for all skin types in the cold winter months. The softness of the material just feels like a nourishing blanket for the face, infusing hydration and moisture to the skin, leaving it healthy, happy and with a dewy glow. |
Will I Repurchase?: | Probably. I enjoyed the soothing and hydrating results from the mask, and I would be happy to use it if I had it, but I'd like to try more calendula - centered sheet | Absolutely, if it was still available. Discontinued? Seems like the story of my masking life. |
@itsfi Both of those sheet masks sound great, but especially the Milk Cream one - so of course it's discontinued โน๏ธ
Does the Trader Joe's lip balm have a scent?
@Shosh85, the saga of the discontinued sheet masks continues . . . ๐ I am hoping that with a more edited sheet mask collection (and with fewer packs of 10) that I will get to masks more quickly and as a result will be looking to repurchase closer to the time of my initial purchase when maaaayyybe the sheet mask is more readily available (i.e., not so much time has passed since I first picked up a mask for it to be discontinued). Like I said, I'm hoping for that to be the case. We shall see. ๐ค
The TJ lip balm came in a set of 6 during the holidays. All the flavors have a mild scent to them but I think this almond cream balm has the lightest / subtlest scent. To me, it smells more like cream, with maybe a hint of almond extract. A friend of mine said that the almond one smells mildly like almond paste.
Reading and comparing, I made it all the way until the end and *sigh* of course one has already been discontinued @itsfi ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Thankfully a little smile was waiting at the end, with the numerous lip balms scattered around. I can so relate!
@eshoe, lol! It's amazing how many lip balms can make their way to the bottom of my handbags, or in the pockets, etc. ๐ฒ Most of them close to being finished, too! I can be grateful for that, at least. ๐
I think both these XOY masks, and the other two from the brand, have been retired. I've tried all four; my favorite is the milk cream. It's a bummer it's no longer around but there are plenty of other milky cream serum sheet masks out there.
Hear hear to the bevy of other milky cream serums to keep our skin plump & content, @itsfi ๐๐ผ
I have finished a mere handful of glosses/balms over the past five and 1/2 months, which means... time to restock?๐คฃ
@eshoe, if there are balms you find "meh" but don't necessarily want to toss, they can make good bases for a DIY lip scrub. Or, mix it with an eye shadow or powder blush for a tinted lip balm. Or use the balm on your cuticles or other dry parts. A restock of lip balms sounds in order for you next month. ๐
I appreciate the suggestions @itsfi-I can definitely put a few of those to use! Plenty of face creams have been repurposed as body creams in my house, why not nail fortifiers๐
@itsfi both of those masks sound great!! Discontinued ๐ฃ yep story of our lives!! @curlychiquita I believe you wanted to know about this hair mask, I agree with @itsfi it's actually a really good one! I love the scent too!! Would I buy the FS? Ehhh,,, not anytime soon, only because I have more than enough at the moment ๐
@lmaster @itsfi Thank you very much for tagging me in your Better Not Younger Hair Redemption Butter Masque 6.8 oz/ 200 mLreview! You know I love hair masks! I think I need something thicker than this is - I use really thick hair masks all the way from my scalp to my ends because I have extremely course hair. I appreciate you letting me know about the thinner consistently of it before I spent money on it, @lmaster.
@curlychiquita it does smell so good, just not extreme on the hydration
Yeah @lmaster, it seems that most sheet masks do not have a long tenure in the marketplace. โน๏ธ While I'm still sad to see some sheet masks go away for good, I've gotten used to that trend. It makes me more impressed with brands that are able to continue to put out certain sheet masks for longer than a few years. The one that hurts the most for me is that Too Cool For School Coconut Ceramide one. ๐ข
@curlychiquita, beautiful curls like yours are a far off dream for me, but I liked how hydrating this mask was for my hair. I generally avoid applying hair masks to my crown and ends to help keep my hair from being weighed down and just used this hair mask on the length of my strands and it has worked well for me. If you have questions about the mask that I didn't get to, please feel free to ask. We are happy to help - I'm including @lmaster in that "we" - her hair is more similar to yours and she may be able to provide insight into the product that I cannot.
