We can’t tell you too much about your September box right now, but let’s just say your makeup bag is about to get a serious upgrade—in more ways than one! We’ve redesigned your PLAY! bag so now not only is it seriously eye-catching, it’s also 100-percent recyclable.
Your box will arrive the third week of September, but here’s a buzzworthy hint to tide you over until then:
Your September box will contain one of these innovative products: boscia Cactus Water Moisturizer; NUDESTIX Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in Kiss; or OLEHENRIKSEN Truth Serum.
My products changed!! I was checking the site every day and finally one day last week it was updated to September's products. I was SO excited because it showed that I would be getting a Sunday Riley product, a Peter Thomas Roth product, and a Nudestix lip pencil, among a few other things. I came back on the website today, and the products have changed. I'm not getting any of the products that I thought I was. I'm not excited about ANY of the products that I am getting now. You REALLY shouldn't post products that we will be receiving to our account and get our hopes up, and then change them after they have already been seen. It is very disappointing and I am honestly thinking about cancelling this box.
Same thing happened to me. I was excited with the box the Sephora site told me I was getting. I logged in and refreshed several times to make sure that it wasn’t a generic post. About 24 hours later the items I was going to receive changed. Not only was I disappointed but this is the second month in a row this has happened. I already received my box and have tried all the items. I figured I would give it a chance. I try the samples because you never know but still end up disappointed. This is the 4th box I’m just not happy with. I’ve already subscribed to Boxycharm. If I like what I get from them, I will be cancelling my Play subscription.
How do you find out what products you are getting ahead of time?
I'm in the same exact boat that you are with box 707. 😕 I could have probably dealt with just receiving a disappointing box from the get-go. It happens sometimes. But like you, I was told I would be receiving a number of products that I was legitimately excited for (not just from MSA, but from the actual Sephora website even!) only to find that yesterday morning they had totally changed my box and now, all of a sudden, I wouldn't be receiving anything that I wanted at all. And now, due to someone else's negligence, I'm stuck with a pile of products that I hate and/or cannot use. It's extremely misleading and I don't feel that numerous subscribers should be let down because somebody working for Sephora carelessly uploaded incorrect information and then tried to quietly change it at the last second like it never happened.
I called customer service regarding it and they tossed 200 points my way, but it's more of the principle of the thing honestly. The entire situation just left a really bad taste in my mouth.
I avoided this thread until my box arrived today to avoid spoilers (I love to be surprised). I am so happy with box 707. The facial products are ones I have not tried before, and I was so happy to get a perfume sample again as my stash of hair samples is growing faster than I can use them. However, my absolute favorite item was the Nudestix pencil in Kiss - perfect neutral color for my lips and cheeks. I could do without ANOTHER black mascara, but I have come to expect these (or black liner). I like the new bag because it actually seals so items do not escape, and I like knowing I can recycle it if I want.
I’m done. Switching to recyclable bags? Why doesn’t Sephora start with the CARDBOARD BOX that samples are sent in? Sephora will no longer get $10/month from my pocket because of the repetitive brands and poor foundation matches. Adios.
731?? Anyone??
The foundation that I received in my box is waaaay to dark for my skin tone. My beauty profile says I have fair skin, and play said they picked this foundation for my skin tone... wtf? How can I prevent this from happening again? Not worth my money if I get products I can't use. This was my first box.
Same here. I'm also fair/light skinned and in my first box I received a Tom Ford Foundation in Tan. I called and complained and was told my color match (which was already clearly stated on my profile) would be noted. So I believed them that it was a mistake. But after reading through everyone's comments it seems to be way too common an issue. I love the idea of receiving samples of high end products but not if I receive dups and too dark skin products I can't use.
I am in the same boat. There is no way I could ever wear Marc Jacobs Y420. The worst part is they say they picked it for our skin tone. They made a big mistake then, must not have looked at profiles at all. What a waste. Someone said they could wear it around the house. I would look like a total weirdo. Are you kidding me?
Is it just me.. or does everyone else think they need to start customizing boxes based on preference? I know that sounds like a lot of extra work.. but half of the samples I receive I don’t use. Seems like maybe someone else wishing for that sample in their box could have cherished it instead.
Yes, yes, I do. I don't think they can get *too* customized, but there definitely needs to be some variation.
I used to subscribe to BirchBox and canceled it because I got a LOT of items that didn't work for me, so it made no sense for me to keep it. I decided to get Play!, hoping it would work out better since I also did my Color IQ with Sephora. If this first box is any indication, I was very wrong. My complexion is Dark, and yet I got a Marc Jacobs foundation in tan, and a Nudestix that doesn't work with my skin tone at all. I'll give it another month since I'm new, but I really hope my makeup samples start making more sense.
I received the same shade of foundation although my skin tone is listed as fair. Maybe they are just randomly giving it out? Don't even want to look for people with a more medium skin tone? It is disappointing.
I love the skin care items though. Some people say one skin item is enough per month, but my favorite months are ones where I receive multiple skin care items. The more the better. The makeup items are usually things that are the wrong shade for at least half of us.
