Serum

I need a recommendation for a good serum for oily skin? Needs to be under $50. I can do more if itโ€™s really really good.

Re: Serum

Hi @nofxroxx,

I love the OLEHENRIKSEN - Truth Serumยฎ. It brightens your skin and evens out your skin tone.

I also suggest the TARTE - Mermaid Skinโ„ข Hyaluronic H2O Serum. This is great for adding even moisture and hydration to the skin.

I hope this helps!

Best Wishes,

Janean

Re: Serum

Check out olehenriksen truth serum. It's pretty versatile, and absorbs into skin well, so it shouldn't make you oilier. I think it's also still available in a mini size, so you can try without committing to a huge bottle.

Personally, my HG is Caudalie Vinoperfect, but it leaves your skin a bit more damp, and may not be best if you're really oily @nofxroxx

Re: Serum

I was looking at that one. Thank you! I might go to sephora tomorrow and get a sample ๐Ÿ˜

Re: Serum

Hi, @nofxroxx

What kind of benefits are you looking for, from the serum (e.g. anti-aging, brightening, moisturizing..)?

Re: Serum

I guess Iโ€™m trying to find a solution to oily skin and acne prone skin. I find that ANY moisturizer that I use (even ones that claim to โ€œsoak up oilโ€) feels like it sits on top of my skin and makes me super oily hours later, like way more than usual. I feel like I donโ€™t even need a moisturizer at this point but know I should still use one. Someone suggested a gel moisturizer (which I have, and it works but I donโ€™t like the smell) or a serum. So maybe a moisturizing serum that doesnโ€™t make me super oily. My skin is a b&$&!, I know lol

Re: Serum

Ok. I'd definitely recommend using a toner before the moisturizer. I have combo-oily skin that is straight-up oily in summer, and (at least for me), I've found a toner really helps to get my skin really clean, so products can absorb better.

If your skin is crazy-oily, I've had the best luck with Effaclar Duo (acne/oiliness treatment), with Effaclar Mat (moisturizer for oily skin) on top. It's not cheap - I usually watch for sales on it. You can get it at Walgreens and ULTA, and they're both pretty good about returns, if it wouldn't work for you.

Another product I've had luck with is the Ole Henriksen Counterbalance Mattifying Moisture Creme. At least for me, I feel like it does control oil, without being  overdrying.

I did have someone at Sephora recommend the Murad Oil-control Mattifier with SPF 15, but I never tried it, so I can't comment on its effectiveness.

I did notice someone else had recommended the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum. That might be worth trying, as well. I currently use it under makeup during the day, and have found it to absorb fully and quickly.

For the Ole Henriksen or Murad products, I'd check at a local Sephora or Sephora in JCP, and see if they'll make up samples for you to try.

Good luck - hope you find something that works for you.

Re: Serum

I do use a toner before moisturizing. I also need to exfoliate more. I want to get a silicone spin brush for my face. Maybe the moisture would absorb more of my face was exfoliated more regularly. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Tonight, I decided to switch back to my gel moisturizer for now until I can find something better. I mixed the moisturizer with pure aloe gel and used that. From what Iโ€™ve read, aloe seems to be good for oiliness. But I will look into the Effaclar for sure. I will see if I can get samples from Sephora of everything! Thank you for all your advice! ๐Ÿ˜โ™ฅ๏ธ
