I thought it would be fun to have a thread dedicated to nail stamping. Are you a veteran stamper, or just wanting to get started? Let's share our love of stamped manicures! Post your stamping plate collections, your stamping successes and failures, and favourite polishes to stamp with.
Thank you @RGbrown! From a distance they look sweater-like.
@Anonymous Here's a video where they actually stamp on a nail.
Oh dear. I have actively avoided any videos/blogs/info on stamping because I assumed it was going to be hard (or too hard for me at least, as my hands are a bit shaky sometimes), but of course I got sucked into this thread and those videos make it look so easy. Oh no. I don't need a new collecting habit. Must walk away.
Oh who am I kidding? I'll be here. And I'll have stamping stuff galore before you know it. Not sure whether to kiss you or curse you, @Beadshopgirl 😂😂
i avoid all beauty things like this too if i think it's too complicated or will cause me to buy more stuff. i actively did that with contouring too until i finally broke down recently. i have too many nail polishes though! and i'm still kinda into nail polish stickers - i keep hoarding them!
Hey @RGbrown ! Nice to see you again! Did you notice the part of the video where the girl did a few practice rolls before she did the real one? So she got in the rhythm and then she did it flawlessly! (I hope that was in the video @Beadshopgirl posted here)
So there's the answer for your shaky hands!
You can learn with me, I spent $$ I didn't plan on spending today. I'm getting the Big Bling in a kit with plates from ClearJellyStamper and the Black/White polishes from Amazon, and I just got a big bunch of polish to do nail art with! (The lines and dots kind of nail art)
@Anonymous Yup, I saw that one! That was part of what's slowly wearing away my resolve lol.
I'm a nail polish nut...I have hundreds...but rarely do anything more elaborate than a few dots or a french manicure. I haven't quite committed to spending any money on this (yet haha!) but now I'm seriously considering it. If Ulta had more selection I'd probably have placed an order already, but spending real money instead of points somewhere else is holding me back for now (and making my wallet very happy) 😛
Well @RGbrown , you just keep trying to keep your credit card locked up! I was doing pretty well until @Beadshopgirl started this thread. I should have just closed my browser and tried to forget that I'd seen it!
When I was on YouTube watching videos, I saw one about DIY stamping polish. I didn't watch it, it must be some way of making thin polish thicker. It might be a way to use up polishes that you know you'll never use... that would be good, I hate to throw anything away, I love it when I can re-purpose something somehow. Might have to look into that.
Thanks, I was beginning to think nobody actually videoed stamping real nails! I can't wait to try this!
@Anonymous I'm thinking maybe I should do some stamping videos myself!
You should! You can get really famous on YouTube and then great things can happen from there... What's the old saying, "Don't hide your light under a bushel!"
Lol @Anonymous! That phrase always reminds me of the scene from The Cutting Edge When Doug is getting fitted for his frilly figure skating costume.
I'm afraid I don't know that one, but you got my point (I think), so that's good. I want to be your first viewer!
But seriously, I thought the hand nail painting was really cool, and I didn't even know about this nail stamping stuff, which looks way more interesting!
I wonder how they make the plates? Probably laser cut. So design made in a design program, then that design is fed into another program that controls the laser cutting of thin steel plates. Does that sound right?
Lol @Anonymous. I'm totally dating myself here, but it was a classic from 1992. I highly recommend it if you can find it (the original, not the crappy sequels).
@Beadshopgirl My mom and I used to watch this movie all the time when I was a kid. Such great memories. 🙂
Toe pick!

@Beadshopgirl Oh my goodness, I used to love this movie when I was a kid! I haven’t seen it for so long, I wonder if I would still like it?!? (Off to see if they have it on Netflix...)
Me too! @PrettyPaint It airs on tv every now and again. "TOE PICK"
@Beadshopgirl YES! I remember that!! It’s seriously been so long since I’ve seen it. I will check for repeats!
Thanks for the thought @Beadshopgirl but I don't watch movies any longer. I think I stopped shortly after that time, so it probably hadn't come to TV yet.
@KemoLove @Anonymous Here is an excellent overview video for beginners to nail stamping:
