Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

Lots of places are doing their "year in review" (usually with music, but I've seen some others too!), so I thought it would be fun if we did a BIC Beauty Wrapped 😊

I personally draw a lot of inspiration (and sometimes enabling) from the Community, and would love to see everyone's beauty wrapped! I've come up with a few categories, but feel free to add and skip over ones that don't apply to you!

BIC WRAPPED 2023 CATEGORIES:

  • Your Top 3 Brands This Year (this can be divided into categories, like skincare, makeup, haircare and fragrance, or you can do an overall ranking!)
  • Top 3 Most Used Product Types (mascara, fragrance, liquid blush, hair masks, etc)
  • Top 3 Most Used Products
  • Top 3 Most Repurchased Items
  • Top "BIC Made Me Do It" Product
  • Number of Empties (if you track that sort of thing!)
  • Top New Product of 2023
  • Top 3 Beauty Trends You Participated In
  • Top Re-Entry Product (something you maybe haven't used in a while, but has been rediscovered and re-added to your rotation!)

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@Sunnysmom i have a senior pup and I definitely can see some similarities!!

These are some gorgeous favourites! I haven’t heard much about U Beauty, but I’m going to check it out if it has your seal of approval! I’m also going to look into that Necessaire neck cream. I don’t currently have any products in my rotation specifically for my neck, but ive been thinking about it for a while. I can never tell if a product is gimmicky or not, but necessaire does have a great product line, so i feel more confident in that one.

nice work on the empties, even if you dont track them necessarily. It feels so nice to see some dents in makeup especially. As satisfying as it is to open up a brand new product, there’s really something about seeing a product become well loved 😍

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

It’s so hard isn’t it @cianni ?! Time just goes so quickly. 😭 Yes I really do love U Beauty. I feel like the serum has restored some glow to my skin and also reduced some small spots and the moisturizers both regular and tinted just really seem to work for me. They also have nice starter sets that are pretty generous in size and are included in promos from their site as well as other dept stores etc. Same with the neck cream. I hear you on the gimmicky aspect but again this little guy is like a cross between a serum and lotion so it gives some added help plus firming too. Wish it was larger! Lol Btw,  I also really like the GXVE BY GWEN STEFANI All Time Prime Clean Hydrating Prep & Smooth Face Oil 0.95 fl oz. / 28 mL over the neck lotion or on it’s own. Nice consistency. Yup, and as much fun as it is to buy them , there is nothing more satisfying than tossing those empties in the trash! I tried to do some addition and I feel pretty good about it so far! Thanks again for this thread! It was a good revisit for me! 🤗

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@cianni great idea!

My Top 3 Brands- I'm honestly not sure! I honestly not very brand loyal overall, quite the opposite! I love trying new brands and products. Maybe brands I spent the most on would be the best way to gage for me.

  • Makeup- Natasha Denona, Terra Moons, Clionadh, and Rom&nd as an honorable mention.
  • Hair- Kerastase, Davines, and Unove.
  • Skincare- Biossance, Sunday Riley, and DRMTLGY.

My 3 Most Used Products Types (non-skincare) - concealer, eye brow gel, cream blush

My 3 Most Used Products- I bounce around a LOT so this is hard. Without taking skincare into consideration- Tarte Shape Tape, Pat McGrath Concealer, Terra Moons singles

My 3 Most Repurchased Products- I rarely repurchase the same products but once I find a product I like, I need all the shades Not exactly the same product but I picked up multiples of the Terra Moons singles, Rom&nd Lip Tints, and Clionadh Singles. Honorable mention to Natasha Denona palettes since I got quite few this year (older and newer releases).

"BIC made me do it" product- The iNNBEAUTY PROJECT Glaze Lip Oil or Yves Saint Laurent Candy Glaze Lip Gloss Stick #comes to  mind but I'm sure there's definitely more that I am missing.

Top New Product- I didn't try it until the end of 2023 but the Addiction Tokyo Sparkle shadows. Otherwise, Rom&nd lippies were a favorite throughout the year.

Beauty Trends- idk if I'm trendy, tbh, but I used a lot of cream products and went for a sheer, glowy lip most days.

Top Re-Entry Product- I don't think I have one.

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@makeitup305, Davines is a lovely hair brand. I've tried their hair oil and hair spray so far. What product(s) from their brand do you enjoy?

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

I tried the Love- Smoothing shampoo and conditioner and the Love- Curl shampoo, conditioner, and curl controller. I liked both lines but the smoothing one is a little too heavy for me. I'm planning on repurchasing the curl conditioner when I use up some stuff. I'd love to try some more of their products as well. I haven't been wearing my hair wavy as much lately but the shampoo and conditioner left my hair hydrated and soft. Do you have any recommendations?

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

Their hair oil gets a lot of raves and for good reason @makeitup305. It's one I would consider repurchasing once I've made my way through some of the ones in my current mix. The hairspray was okay; fine as a hairspray and okay as a heat protectant - it left my hair more crunchy than I wanted on just washed hair.

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@itsfi thanks for the info! The hair oil has been popping up on my feed. I'll look into it once I use up some of the ones in my stash.

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

Sorry for the delay @cianni! I *tried* to keep to the actual number of items in the prompt but ummm .... well, you'll see. 😂🤣😂 Here we go!

  • Your Top 3 Brands This Year (this can be divided into categories, like skincare, makeup, haircare and fragrance, or you can do an overall ranking!)
    • Dior
    • Oribe
    • Voluspa

  • Top 3 Most Used Product Types (mascara, fragrance, liquid blush, hair masks, etc)
    • Skincare - sunblock, serums, cleansers
    • Lip products - balms, oils, glosses
    • Concealer

  • Number of Empties (if you track that sort of thing!)
    • As of 11/30/2023, 400 empties total

  • Top 3 Beauty Trends You Participated In
    • Underpainting - I learned this from a sales associates I work with; I need to us this technique more
    • Nail stickers - Technically, my nail sticker use goes back to when I was in my teens, but you know how these things cycle back again
    • Scrunchies & claw clips - Even more so than with nail stickers, these are accessories I've used since I was a kid. I've never stopped using them and actually still use a clip I've had since I was in high school

  • Top Re-Entry Product (something you maybe haven't used in a while, but has been rediscovered and re-added to your rotation!)
    • I knew I still had this; just had to figure out which box I packed it in - this has been re-added to my active rotation. More a tool / accessory than a product .. the Caboodle!!

Caboodles 1.jpg

Caboodles 2.jpg

No idea what I'm going to keep in here but it's coming back. I'll make space for it on the vanity.

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@itsfi i love seeing alll your extra mentions and subcategories!! I love how a sunscreen makes more than one category - i still find even now that it can easily be an overlooked part of many people’s skincare routines.

I’m interested in that Eadem product. I love niacinamide as an ingredient, but am always so hesitant about vitamin C. I feel like i dont know enough about Vit C stability to be able to pick one for myself; i have heard so many different opinions, and there are so many on the market at all kinds of price points. I’m guessing based on where you categorized it that its effective!

love the trends you participated in this year - i totally forgot about claw clips. I’ve been wearing them a ton over the last year (maybe even 2?) as well, and it definitely reminds me of the styles i was wearing when i was younger. I am not at all embarrassed to admit that scrunchies, regardless of their trend status, have never left my rotation. I’ve been rocking mine since the early 2000s, and i probably will never let them go! The only thing that’s changed is how “sophisticated” they are now that I’m an adult… ive traded in my neon ones for some neutral satin 😂

that’s so funny about the kaboodle too - i have a pink sparkly one that i use to store and organize jewelry now! I wish i could find a bigger one because id love to put more makeup in it, but my collection is not really kaboodle sized right now, and i recently invested in new acrylic drawers and towers to organize my “everyday” makeup

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@cianni, it makes sense to have some concerns about vitamin C, especially if it's a newer ingredient to you. I did a fair amount of research before I started on it; that was maybe 5-6 years ago. I ended up going with a product with a lower concentration of vitamin C and it worked out well for my skin. I saw noticeable results before finishing the bottle and ended up repurchasing a bottle as well. There are also other forms of vitamin C, deriviatives of it that may be more gentle on the skin, as well as other good skincare ingredients that will provide brightening resuls without some of the stability concerns that vitamin C has or for those who may be sentitive or allergic to it (i.e., licorice root extract, alpha arbutin, azelaic acid, niacinamide, tranexamic acid, etc.)

lol, I got a good chuckle out of the neon scrunchie reference. When leg warmers were seen about in 2023, I wondered whether I should check ask my parents if they kept my bright, neon pink ons from when I was a kid. 😂 The kaboodle! Ohhh, there was a time when all my makeup could fit inside one of the larger ones and still have plenty of room. I will try to see if I can fit one of my makeup capsules this year into the small kaboodle. Ha! That would be fun.

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@itsfi I’ve been using azelaic acid quite a bit this past year, but didn’t know it was considered a vit c alternative! My doctor suggested it to me to use in lieu of acne fighting ingredients that were not pregnancy safe. And I do believe it did in fact work for that purpose during some hormonal breakouts I experienced last year. Who knew all this time I was hitting two skincare goals at once 🤷‍♀️

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

That's awesome @cianni; love it when we can hit more than one of our goals simultaneously. I think azaleic acid is more commonly known as being an alternative for AHAs, but it has, among its many benefits, the ability to help diminish discoloration, even skin tone for a brighter complexion. I like that it's gentle on the skin and effective.

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

Your list is reminding me of stuff @itsfi ! It’s great. 400!! Incredible! (I’m working on my lists! A good review for sure. )

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@Sunnysmom, thank you. I am using more and more favorites and staples, in both full and sample size, so I consider that a win. Most of the other foils are of products I'm interested in, for the most part. Ahhh, lists. They're helpful, but sometimes ... not. The wishlist doesn't ever seem to get shorter.

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@itsfi amazing job with that empties tally!

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

Thank you @makeitup305! Just trying to work through everythings. It's lower than the year before, which was lower than the year before ... so I feel that's progress for me.

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@itsfi totally! Knowing what you have and then working through products is a great feeling.

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@itsfi wow 400 empties, that is incredible

Re: Wrapped 2023: Your Beauty Year in Review

@itsfi I agree, samples are great only if you use them or plan to use them at another date (i.e.vacation, business trip. etc.)
