@MissPuff Take me with and I'll find us places! 😉 Have fun! www timeout (dot com) london/things-to-do/quirky-and-unusual-things-to-do-in-london

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

@MissPuff Which area of London will you be in? As far as running is concerned, I'd recommend trying to get your run in early-ish in the morning before people are out and about since it's crowded pretty much everywhere haha. Hyde Park is really nice, as is along the South Bank of The Thames between like the London Eye and the Tower Bridge. I haven't had to a chance to go, but the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park seems neat, and there are probably a lot of running paths there.

Shoreditch is a really cool area and isn't as crowded. Restaurants, shops, etc. It's a little more lowkey and sort of hipster but not in an overly hipster way. There is a market with tons of food and handmade items. Borough Market has a ton of awesome food on the South Bank, but it can get super crowded. Camden has a huge market too, but that's ridiculously crowded. One of the most well know shopping areas is Covent Garden, there is a mix of handmade stuff and high end stuff there, but it's no more crowded than your average shopping mall.

If you can swing it, I'd recommend finding a show, play, comedy club, etc. The Comedy Store in the West End (near Chinatown and Piccadilly) has a few improv shows a week that are really funny.

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

@alexasteph Thank you for all your thoughtful suggestions! Adding Shoreditch and the Borough Market to my list! I'd love to catch a show, hopefully the stars align. And good idea about the early morning run, I was sort of imagining something akin to running in NYC which is basically impossible except in the park. Now I know 🙂

I haven't arranged my hotel just yet, I'm on business in Exeter the days before and my schedule is still in flux. It was suggested I stay around Mayfair/Soho for convenience which I like the idea of since I'm around for such a short time. I do have a feeling those are crazy expensive areas since the suggestions were from my super fancy friends, so I'm open to hotel ideas as well 🙂

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

@MissPuff I try to stay in AirBnBs when I go since there are a ton of options. Paddington is one of the most convenient (and a bit more affordable) places to stay since the train from Heathrow comes and goes from there, if you're coming/going through Heathrow. There is a Hilton if you're looking for a "traditional" hotel, and a bunch of bed and breakfasts. There are also most of the Tube lines from Paddington, and it's a 5 minute walk to Hyde Park. Oh! There are some birds in the back end Kensington Gardens toward along the water-ish you can feed peanuts and apples to, and that's really fun. I can't really give you the exact location, but when you stumble upon it you'll know you're there. Rent some bikes too! Hyde Park is a great place to hang out. Regent's Park has a lovely flower garden, that's in a different area of London though, but only a couple of Tube stops away from Paddington.

Enjoy your time in London! It's my favorite city in the world.

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

@MissPuff How fun; I'm so jealous! Though I've unfortunately never been, so I don't have tips.

As for the travel thread, I believe it was started by Sierra, who requested removal of her account, which may or may not be the reason why it's not appearing?

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

@txcatx oooooooh, that makes sense! It's been years since I've been and the first time in a SUPER long time that I'm traveling by myself.

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

Has anyone ever tried Tighteye Serum from science serum? Wayne Goss talked about it in one of his videos as something that really helps under eye lines/creases both for giving a good makeup base and over time. I have really bad eye circles and creases so i'm basically willing to try anything but the serum is not cheap so just looking for some trusted reviews!

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

Cross posting from Skincare 101 just in hopes it helps up visibility of my question -

Has anyone here used both La Mer creme and Nivea creme? I have read a few reviews saying Nivea is a suitable substitute for La Mer. I have to say, La Mer has been working incredibly well for me. My skin has improved since using it, but of course I'm curious about Nivea since it has high reviews and is much much more cost effective. I am just nervous to use Nivea and regret it/undo all the good that La Mer has done.

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

Favourite Primer and Beauty Balm with 30+ SPF? I need to start using daily sun protection.

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

@bakeamuffin I don’t have a primer suggestion for you, since I haven’t found a primer with SPF I like, but the Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 is good for sun protection. Obviously that’s a moisturizer not a primer, but I find it plays well with makeup. For lightweight coverage with SPF I like bareMinerals Complexion Rescue or UD Naked Skin One and Done. The bareMinerals has a larger shade range though.

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

Thanks for the suggestions @alexasteph @cookiesr4every1! I’ll check these out, my skin need some awesome sun protection 😄

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

@bakeamuffin i second bareMinerals! though i use NARS Smooth & Protect Primer - it's SPF 50 - but i looove it! it's very smooth, yet a bit tacky so that foundations stick well to it. i have 'normal' skin with the occasional oiliness around the T-zone and sometimes my nose gets dry and flaky, but this primer is good in any situation i find - it's a bit pricy though

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

Kind of a makeup question. Any recommendations for a low price but decent quality locking case?  Some of my older niece’s makeup has become the victim of her 3 year old sister’s creativity lately. While it’s useful to learn which lipsticks taste good (don’t worry, she licks them or paints with them; she isn’t digesting any), we all prefer if she stop destroying them and stick with crayons.

RE: The Question Thread 2.0!!

I am in need of a lot of help and suggestions. My Mom has recently talked to me quite a bit about makeup, etc and I think she’s looking to really get back into and get a new collection for herself. My Mom currently is very minimal, wearing no makeup almost all the time. I am very familiar with makeup and wear a full face just about everyday and there’s a lot that I can help her with, but my Mom’s needs are actually a lot different from mine so I was hoping to get maybe some suggestions. My Mom is mid 50’s, olive complexion, green eyes and light brown / blonde hair. She doesn’t naturally have a lot of eyebrows or eyelashes. She is also sensitive to certain products. She’s very fair featured, but has an olive complexion. (I’m pale, black brown hair / eyes no sensitivity) I think she’s really wanting to feel beautiful again and I just want to help her feel that way. Her biggest issue is finding a mascara that is made for sensitive eyes. It doesn’t matter if it’s drug store or expensive, I just need to find something that won’t burn her eyes or tear her up. I’ve tried giving her Clinique and that doesn’t work for her. She says there was a L’Oréal mascara for sensitive eyes years ago, but that has been discontinued. Anyone else have sensitive eyes to mascara and if so, what mascara do you use to help with that?? Do you know any brands that are made for sensitive eyes or any that you’ve found work for your sensitive eyes? Another issue, My mom has little to no eyebrows, just a few hairs here and there. She a while ago had them professionally done, but they’ve faded now. I’ve been trying to watch some eyebrow tutorials, because I typically just throw ABH brow whiz on mine when they need to be tamed. I’ve tried ABH dipbrow on her, but I don’t think it’s a product she would use. Any suggestions from anyone who doesn’t really have thick brows on what products are best for you? I’ve been looking at the wunderbrow products, any thoughts on those? I’m also looking for eyeshadow palettes that are mostly in the blue / cool tone range? Everything I own is warm toned. Any other products or advice that you can suggest to me for women who are in the 50’s age group? Thank you all in advance

Re: RE: The Question Thread 2.0!!

Hi @Anonymous!

My mom also has very sparse eyebrow hair and she loves to use the ABH brow wiz. She recently told me she also bought the Benefit gimme brow and it works well for her too.

I agree with @MissPuff about the eyeshadows. I bought my mom the Lorac pro 1 but when I help her with eyeshadow the colors and formula just don’t look as good as an Estée Lauder palette she received in one of their holiday gift with purchase sets.

Re: RE: The Question Thread 2.0!!

@Anonymous That's so lovely of you! My mother also has very sparse and light brows and she tends to go with either powder and a stiff, angled brush (this looks a bit softer and more natural) or the Diorshow Eyebrow Styler (a bit quicker and can be done more dramatically). Something I've found with my mum is that she tends to favor the slightly more lux brands not because they're lux, but because the products are a bit more subtle and lay better on her older skin. Eyeshadows are a great example; everyone is all about the high pigment palettes these days, but for ladies with slightly crepe-y skin on their eyelids, a softer build of color is both easier to work with and preferred.

Re: The Question Thread 2.0!!

Looking for experience with the Son & Park beauty water - I bought it during the sale and my skin has been a bit dryer/flakier in spots than normal and I am trying to pin point if its that or something else. Has anyone experienced that drying out their skin?

Thanks!

I bought the son and park for the VIB sale too. So I have...

I bought the son and park for the VIB sale too. So I have been using it for a month and have not experienced any dry flakey skin. I really like it.
