Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

Fragrance Vibes GIF.gif

Has a particular scent ever made you feel beachy? Powerful? Downright sultry?! We know fragrance is complex, especially when discussing it here on a beauty forum. With the different formats, notes, and fragrance categories it can feel overwhelming so we want to make it fun to talk about our favorite perfumes, colognes, fragrance oils, candles, and any other products giving off a scent that makes you feel something.

Different fragrances can evoke emotion and memories that may be difficult to articulate so we are starting this thread to make fragrance discussion more approachable and fun for everyone, regardless of your fragrance expertise. Whether it's a cologne that makes you feel warm and cozy or a perfume that has you feeling fresh and clean, we want you to leave comments with photos or descriptions of your favorite fragrances that correspond to each “vibe.” Team BIC will be jumping in to share the vibes different fragrances give us and we hope you will join us in the fun. Now is the time to get creative! 😉

Time to channel some vibes! Let us know one of your favorite fragrances or leave a photo inspired by one of your current favorite fragrance vibes.

RE: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

I feel like a floral amber sent reminds me of a powerful women . Probably because my mom wore stuff like that when I was younger .

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

Clean vibes

  • Frederic Malle's Geranium Pour Monsieur, minty barbershop scent
  • Frederic Malle's Dan Tes Bras, soft heliotrope and sandalwood makes for a very clean skin scent
  • CdG's Concrete, playing on the "slate" theme, a modern sandalwood
  • Lush's Dirty, the name is a total contradiction, it's a fresh clean herbal scent
  • 4160 Tuesday's Ealing Green, herbaceous and outdoorsy
  • For florals, the Aerin line is very clean

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

Studious vibes makes me think of clean scents that aren't too distracting. Also, this makes me think of citruses and greens for alertness. Bolded fragrances are carried by Sephora. I still can't link to products with hashtags 😞

  • Frederic Malle's Bois d'Orage which is a beautifully polished clean cedar topped with gentle spice and shaded in with dark jade tones of vetiver and galbanum. I like to wear this when I'm trying to impress someone in a professional setting. For a gentler version, try Angeliques Sous La Pluie from the same house.
  • Hermes' Terre d'Hermes is a well balanced, spicy, citrusy wood. It's a classic, very invigorating.
  • Guelain's Herba Fresca. A splash of reviving mint.
  • Knize's Knize Ten. Classic tough blonde leather with a hint of gasoline. A fragrance that says, "get to work!" 🙂
  • Heretic's Dirty Ginger. Fantasic earthy ginger root that's very grounding.
  • A little more cozy than the others, Penhaligon's Sartorial is an easy going fougere with a hit of pepper upfront followed by spices and a warm, slightly powdery amber-tonka dry down. It's very calming. Try this if you like the new Tom Ford fougeres. This is much more affordable in the same style. For something more clean and citrusy, there's Lothair of the same house.

Channeling the woodsy vibes, y'all! If you've been following my monthly favorites, you'd know my fragrance of the year has been JULIETTE HAS A GUN - Not A Perfume - a light woodsy scent that wears so well throughout the day. I think I've finally found my signature scent with this one! I like that the earthy notes translate well regardless of the season - I've been wearing it since summer.

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

@GeorginaBT this GIF is everything!! And I love Not a Perfume - I feel like it's definitely a BIC classic 🙂

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

I really like perfumes with woodsy/forest vibes. Some I'd recommend are

  • Slumberhouse's Norne, deep dark resinous coniferous forest
  • Andrea Maack's Coven, plunging your hands into moist soil forest
  • Hiram Green's Hyde, smoky Canadian cabin in the woods
  • Papillon's Dryad, sun-dappled meadowy, mossy English woods
  • Comme des Garcons' Sugi, clean Scandinavian blonde woods. Actually, CdG is very strong in the woody department, the entire Monocle woods series is good as is some of the main line
  • Not quite forest/woods but Hermes' Un Jardin en Mediterrannee which is not really a deep forest but fig trees outdoors

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

This is right up my alley @pocketvenus! Taking notes 😄

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

@veronika23 ❤️ I don't know why but your comment reminded me of an Aesop one called Hwyl which manages to smell pretty natural. It is also not obscenely priced!

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

Thanks @pocketvenus! I'll look that one up as well. 🙂

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

@pocketvenus These descriptions!! ❤️ Fig trees outdoors sounds lovely - I didn't realize how much I enjoy woodsy scents until recently.

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

@GeorginaBTI loooove woody scents too! They used to be marketed as masculine and I'm glad they're more often marketed today with no gender 🙂

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

Cozy vibes. I know it is a repeat mention but I LOVE MAISON MARGIELA - ’REPLICA’ By The Fireplace thanks to a sample included in a Sephora order last year.

It totally reminds me of sitting by the fireplace and I had to buy it for my hubby. He loves it so much, he only wears it on the weekends cuz he wants this bottle to last.

To avoid repetition I'm gonna recommend a more feminine version of this and it is Ariana Grande's Cloud.

I love this almost as much as fireplace and bought this one for myself. I don't  necessarily like her personality but her fragrances smell sweet and sexy-Almost all of them smell good :).

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

Sharing a little here, hope it’s on-theme cozy! The YVES SAINT LAURENT - Black Opium Neon is gratis from yesterday, I’ve been wearing it and attempting to place the scent. It is a bit jasmine-like but there is a familiarity I could not place until my husband tested it. “Poison. With a bit of pickle at the end.”

I am working on finding the pickle, but the Poison-yes! It is like a warmer version of it, a bit more flowery. But at least now I can connect the dots, and it explains why I like it. I wore that fragrance during my teen years so it is a bit reminiscent. @KatieBT

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

I love this! I tend not to go for cosy but if I want a comforting wear I'll put on

  • Etat Libre d'Orange's Like This, pumpkin spice sweater
  • Mona di Orio's Vanille, a non-sweet vanilla
  • Mona di Orio's Osmanthus Oudh, a rich, purring oud
  • Neela Vermiere's Mohur, a rose that I can only describe as the milk of human kindness in a bottle

Thanks @KatieBT @GeorginaBT for this new idea!

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

@pocketvenus I need you to run a fragrance academy - I’ll happily be the first to sign up!

I need a pumpkin sweater scent ASAP and am immediately investigating this “human kindness in a bottle” scent. A purring oud? Tell me more!!

Thanks for always making fragrance so fun to learn about and sharing so much of your passion and fragrance knowledge with us!

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

@KatieBTApologies for the delay in replying and thank you for your kind words! I'd love to just have a bunch of essential oils and samples and introduce people to new scents!

I think Like This might still be available through Sephora? I'm so glad the store carried Etat Libre for a time because it was very easy to buy the travel sizes! I tend not to go for gourmands but a travel size is just right 🙂

The Neela Vermeire line is pretty good overall, and the nose is Bertrand Duchaufour whose work I tend to like. Some of his most popular fragrances are CdG's Kyoto and L'Artisan's Timbuktu. I also quite like Mona di Orio's house, I think there are some fans on BIC too. Her Vanille is the only vanilla I enjoy and it's also pretty cozy 🙂

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

@GeorginaBT @KatieBT I love the schedule!! It’s funny because I do my own version of this independently. I try to organize all my perfume samplers so I try at least one per month for a few days in a row (usually till it’s done) and that way I can figure out how it wears and if I like it on me.

anyyyyways perfect timing - this week I’ve been using THE 7 VIRTUES - Vanilla Woods Eau de Parfum. I’m OBSESSED. It’s cozy and vanilla but there’s pear in it, which is subtle on me, but makes it a little lighter and fresher. My go-to vanilla was ATELIER COLOGNE - Vanille Insensée Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume , which I still love as a “grown up” vanilla. It’s definitely a little heavier, but the staying power is insane. It’s slightly unisex which I like too, because some vanillas on me tend to lean a little too “overpowering cupcake” haha

Re: Let's Talk Fragrance Vibes

@cianni I could always get down with some #CozyFresh fragrance vibes! I have been seeking a 7 Virtues scent and plan on going to Sephora tomorrow so I am definitely doing to seek it out and test it out for the day 🙂

I agree that the Atelier is a more “grown up” vanilla - excellent choice of words. Maybe we need to add “grown up” vibes to the schedule!

We decided to create a schedule for you all to follow along and share your fragrance vibes! Kicking off our theme of the week...

It’s gotten pretty chilly in San Francisco, so @KatieBT@BrendaBT, and I are bundling up in the office to stay warm. We’re channeling cozy vibes this time of year, with a fireplace and all! 😉 Maybe you guessed it, but we were inspired by MAISON MARGIELA - ’REPLICA’ By The Fireplace. This fragrance is warm and spicy with some yummy vanilla notes – totally the vibe for staying indoors and avoiding the cold.

What fragrances give you cozy vibes?
