Now that the word is officially out….who will be attending Sephoria NYC 2023 on September 29-30, 2023?
I won’t be able to attend in person this year (I plan to attend virtually) but I know other members who are already planning and going. If I had to choose a session it would be session 3 with Patrick Ta and Natasha Denona.
Please share your excitement and even photos and experience here if you do go.
@CookieGirl1 Thank you! There were so many wonderful photo ops from all of the brands.
Well those are darling @Mellmars1185 ! Thanks so much for sharing your pics and memories with us! 🥰
You’re so cute @Mellmars1185 🥰. Look liked you have a blast! I love it 🥰
@blackkitty2014 Thank you so much. I did not know I could have so much fun. It felt like Trick or Treating at Sephora. I would definitely go again in the future if I am able.
Awwww, you look fabulous @Mellmars1185! These pics are bringing back fun memories! Did you have a favorite booth you visited?
@itsfi Thank you! It is hard to choose one. The Danessa Myricks booth had amazing energy, the Charlotte Tilbury was very interactive and th Rare Beauty booth was very generous and I thought the mirror was a fun and positive idea. What about you?
Those 3 brands were phenomenal for all the reasons you mentioned @Mellmars1185! "Amazing energy" is a great way to describe the ambience created by Danessa Myricks and her team - they were so nice and welcoming too! The Charlotte Tilbury group was fun as well - Patty, Chad, Tim - so fun to talk to. Oh my goodness, how generous and kind were the folks at Rare Beauty and yes, the mirror messages was/is a brilliant idea. Loved that.
Those three were all hits for me, and there were so many others, including some booths that made me think of others on BIC that were not able to join us at Sephoria this time (next time, friends; next time!) - I thought of the entire nails thread when I had some nail art done by Deco Beauty in the lounge. The founders of Fable & Mane and World of Chris Collins were so gracious with their time, down to earth - I enjoyed speaking with them and also with the founder of Oui the People (that booth had a great set up, interactive too!) - she was wearing this stunning red lipstick. It made me think it would be something @Sunnysmom would love so I asked her about the shade and she said "It's from this brand "violette fr", have you heard of it?" Have I heard of it?!! Sunnysmom introduced us all to it here! All the fragrance brands made me think it would be fun to have @pocketvenus there to chat with the brand reps. The Summer Fridays, Kosas and Dr. Dennis Gross booths (and the Summer Fridays masterclass) made me wish @ather could have been there - I think they'd love chatting with one another! The list goes on!
I loved being able to get services done too, like the nail art, perk hydrafacials, makeup touch ups at Rare Beauty, YSL. And getting my hair done at the Dyson booth - that just added to the "should I get a Dyson air wrap?" discussion that plays out in my head.
@itsfi Oh yes, those were all great experiences! I can't believe we were able to fit some many experiences in short period of time. The blue mascara at YSL has me wanting that mascara. I ended up picking up a drugstore brand because that one was not available in Canada. @fatimamummy and I tried looking for it on our last day but it is only available online. Next time I am in the US i will try to get my hands on it. I love the ombre look that YSL created. Farmacy was also extremely generous. The honey will go to use in my household.
I am glad you created so many wonderful memories. I have to search the brand violet fr, @Sunnysmom definitely knows her lipsticks. I am looking to create more memories in the future with BIC members 💞
That blue mascara on the tips of the lashes looked great on everyone @Mellmars1185! Literally, everyone! I was taken aback (in a good way) that it was real honey ❣️ It’s definitely going to be out to good use 💛🍯
@itsfi Awww I saw the DDG booth online and looked so much fun! Was the SF a plane? Or am i thinking something else! Sounds amazing! It’s so cool you were able to get your nails done!! Hmmm air wrap! It’s such a great tool. I think you might need it!!! Although I’ve had my eye on the air straight for the sale 🤣 it sounds like you had the best time even despite being rained out the first day!!
@ather, the Summer Fridays booth was set up like part of a plane. They had a mini sample of the Jet Lag mask. The rep asked my favorite product and I mentioned the lip balm, CC serum and the R&R mask. To the mask, she responded “oh, old school.” I thought “you have no idea.” 😆 Very old school! 😊
I’ve been curling my hair almost everyday, at least 5 days during the week, for almost a month now. Trying to see if I’d put the air wrap (or Shark) to good use. That would help to justify it in my mind. We shall see. I’m kinda liking my curling iron, again, old school. But with better technology so it’s more gentle on my hair.
Day 2 was a whirlwind. But it was so much fun to do it with these lovely ladies, some of whom were also experiencing Sephoria for the first time. Felt bad for those who were not able to make the second day. That rainstorm was no joke.
@itsfi I love it! Definitely old school SF! That’s awesome! So many great products! I love that’s how the rep commented! Oooo plane so fun!
Oooo curling every day! That’s a ton of work! Does the curl last a second day for you or do you have to start from scratch? I should also ask if you have one of those heatless curling rods? So I use to use my air wrap every day until I discovered the heatless curling things. I put it in my hair before bed and wake up with beautiful curls! Literally the best thing ever. I just cut my hair short and it still works!
@ather The curl lasts a second day but starts to look more like a soft wave by lunchtime so if I want it to have more life, I'll re-curl in the morning; or, some days, I'll twist my hair into a bun or hold it in place with a claw clip and the undo that after lunch so that there's more fullness and a more defined wave for the latter half of the day.
Oh, I should time how long it takes me to curl my hair. Good point. I'll try to do that this weekend or next week; when things hopefully quiet down a smidge. I can sometimes get a third day, but that's a stretch because while the ends and length might have a curl or wave to them, my bangs and the crown of my hair can look a bit weighted down and greasy because of the product in it. Ugh. Not a great look so it depends what my schedule is like for that third day whether I wash my hair in the morning or put is up in a bun/clip for the day, all day, and wash it at night.
I've wondered about those heatless curling rods. Oh wow, they really work for you. I think @Kim888 has used them before. Didn't Sephora use to carry the ones by Kitsch? Or have a set through the Sephora Collection? Hmmm.... 🤔 I probably should have picked up a set when they were available at Sephora, but at that time, I was focusing on a hair care routine. You cut your hair? How short? I'm working on growing out the lengths just a bit more - an inch, maybe 2 inches.
@itsfi Ooo that’s not bad. I get what you mean about the third day. I can usually get away with a curl on the second day but the third day was too much.
You totally should time it. I wonder if the Dyson/shark would be faster. Definitely would be better for your hair. Less heat damage! I noticed when I stopped curling my hair and started using the Dyson it helped my hair with damage. I do find my curls don’t last a second day with the Dyson but if you are going to recurl it might be better on your hair to use the Dyson/shark version! I wish I could drop mine off at your house to test out for a month!
I know kitsch use to be on Sephora I got my pillowcases when they carried the brand. I feel like I got my curling rod from Amazon but I have the Kitsch one and I love it. Took a few tries to make it work but it’s awesome. I have everyone at my work hooked on it too! Yes I cut my hair right before I got sick. I don’t think I have any pictures with it but I’ll get one and Pm it to you. My hair was so long too. It was probably middle of my back. It was quite damaged I asked my hairdresser to take a little off and I was saying how I loved the HB hairstyle and some how I ended up with shoulder length hair! I love it. My hair didn’t have a style and was just there now I feel like I have a style and it’s cute! I think it will grow into a great lob. I might keep this length for a bit tho. It’s much easier to style minus the air dry doesn’t work as well. But overall love it!
You're so sweet @ather! The Dyson or Shark will probably be more gentle on my hair; you're right. I just have this feeling that if I were to get one of those options that I'd end up no longer curling my hair a few weeks into it. lol. I do keep looking at my ends to see if they're starting to look damaged. Not yet but we'll see what my hairstylist says the next time I see him. I'm trying reach for a hair mask a couple times per week now that I'm actually doing my hair. It's strange, for sure. Before, I never curled my hair, only if I were going out and even then, I didn't make it a habit. 😆 Now, I'm curling my hair practically every day, even days I work from home. Ha!
Ooooh, your new hairdo sounds so fun! That's so great how much you are loving your new hair style. That's what counts. A lob would be very pretty! 😍
@itsfi I love your breakdown, it sounds like many brands worked hard to make it a memorable and fun experience, just the best!!
you me both about the Dyson Dyson Airwrap™ Styler Complete Long i keep thinking it would make creating gorgeous styles even easier and faster. It’s a very innovative product! Did you see the Dyson Special Edition Dyson Airwrap™ Multi-Styler Complete Long Gift Set in Ultra Blue/Blush !! Wow!! This would be amazing.
I’m also seeing Shark Beauty FlexStyle Holiday - Arctic Teal which has me very curious.
@bakeamuffin, since the Shark came out, I keep debating over it and the Dyson. The blue/blush pairing is very pretty. I’ve heard folks say that there’s a learning curve to using it and I can see that based on the very limited time I had with the product at the Dyson booth. What do you currently use to curl your hair?
If you end up getting either the Dyson or Shark, would love to hear what you think. And why you choice that product over the other.
learning curves can be intimidating especially when the product you’re learning costs $300-$800. I know I could get the hang of it as I’ve learned many hair skills in the past, but I would feel more confident if I had time with each product so I can see how it was beneficial to have that time with the Dyson at the booth.
@itsfi right now I use my Conair barrel drying brush often but it doesn’t create the big lose- volume curls that I want unless I take a lot of time and patience.
I can do a blowout but I haven’t in a while becaus I need to buy a bigger barrel brush, I just have too much hair for the one I have right now.
My favourite and most used way is to curl it with a flat iron. I love that I can control the wave or curl pattern, have some control over the size of the curls. It’s nice.
What do you do right now?
