eye lash curler ripped out a part of my lashes now i am scared to use it again

Hello. I have been using an eyelash curler for about a year and a half now, never ripped out eyelashes before. Once I started using this eyelash curler, elf pro, it ripped out lashes. I gave it a break for about 2 months and then tried a new rubber thing and I still have the problem. I have very straight lashes, so I usually press pretty hard to get the curl I want but even when I press lightly, I still have this problem. I've tried different eyelash curlers, and it keeps happening. I looked into the Grande lash lift heated curler, but the reviews are pretty negative. I really like how curled lashes look but I can't keep using a curler, and using regular mascara doesn't show because my lashes are pin straight. I am wondering if you have any suggestions to get a curled lash look or to achieve a curl other than using a lash lift or false lashes

Are you curling with mascara on? @EllaKayD I use the Shiseido Eyelash Curler  never has that happened
