Eyeliner Newbie

I am very new in the makeup world and so I'm starting with the basic at the moment. I bought myself the Fenty beauty liquid eyeliner and just recently I started playing with it. I realized that I can't close one eye at a time and I wear glasses. I can't see far and can't see close so I have to get really close to the mirror but since I'm so close to the mirror that when I have the eyeliner up to my left eye the pen hits the mirror so I have no room to work with. My problem is I now can't get close to the mirror to see because the eyeliner pen hits the mirror but I can't put distance or else I won't be any to see. I do have a close up mirror it's a 8x and I bought stencils but I can't seem to hold it in place. I tried tape and the booby pin. I should probably get contacts at this point but I want to be able to learn how to put on eyeliner without any issues. Any tips will be really helpful I will try whatever hacks there is.

RE: Eyeliner Newbie

I would recommend just drawing your wing first then very very carefully draw on your lash line without poking your eye (you don’t need to close your eye to put on liner)

RE: Eyeliner Newbie

Get a magnifying mirror. One with lights is the best. They usually come with a smaller separate super magnifying mirror that you can hold in one hand while you apply your eyeliner. The magnification helps so you won’t need your glasses on to see. You can find them for under $20 in most department stores or on Amazon.

Re: Eyeliner Newbie

There's a YouTube video by someone named Kerry-Lou who shows you how to apply makeup with glasses on(ish). Not super in-depth, but could be a starting point. She talks specifically about eyeliner about halfway through. It looks like she mostly does a little bit at a time by feel, and then checks her progress by putting the glasses back on, or in some cases actually reaching under her glasses. It's all fairly neutral makeup, so more dramatic looks would probably require a lot more practice. But I think that's true for any makeup, the best thing is practice. Give yourself some time to just play with your makeup and see what works and what doesn't.

You may also want to Google something called makeup readers. There are a bunch of different brands at different prices and people have mixed success with them, depending on where the frame falls on your face.
