Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

I have been searching for the best eye primer for hooded oily eyelids. Eyeshadow only lasts about 30 min for me before creasing. I have already tried urban decay, too faced, and smash box. Is there one you recommend me to try?

Re: Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

I have super hooded lids and I use the Hourglass Veilโ„ข Eye Primer 0.32 oz/ 9.6 mL

Re: Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

Can you provide what product you have on the bottom eyeline? I am fair as well with the same eye color. It really makes your eyes pop

RE: Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

I usually use the Mac painterly paint pot but honestly I feel like on the dais Iโ€™m more oily if you use a more matte concealer and set it down with some translucent powder (like dust it over your lid with a fluffy blending brush) that works pretty good too

Re: Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

I have the same issue!  I've tried a bunch but I like Nars eye primer best.

@HulkSmashAF MAC prep and prime 24 hour eye base

RE: Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

I know this was posted awhile ago but thought I would weigh in- the smash box 24 hr primer works really well but you only need a tiny amount and need to let it set for a couple minutes before applying eyeshadow. I still have some problems depending on the eyeshadow though- so another one besides Mac paint pots (pretty good but still crease a bit for me) is MAC sexy cover-up- absolutely a must for a cut creased look. Also the new concealer by NARS in the pot works super well. If all else fails, pixie epoxy by Fyrinnae is excellent especially as a glitter glue- it is finicky though so you have to make sure to follow the directions on their website. The other one I use sometimes is NYXโ€™s waterproof primer. It is a cheaper option that works better than urban decay or too faced for me but not as good as smashbox imo. Good luck! If you found one that works, please reply- I would love to know!

Re: Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

I have oily, hooded eyes which always caused makeup problems until I started using MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot Eyeshadow in Painterly as a base over a year ago. It's a cream eyeshadow that I pat on with my ring finger. It covers any discoloration on my lids (veins, etc) and acts as a magnet for my eyeshadow, whether I'm using a powder or a cream. No more oiliness, no more eyeliner ending up on my upper lid, no more eyeshadow slipping around. I haven't found anything that works better. There are quite a few colors to choose from; I'm quite fair-skinned with dark brown hair and Painterly matches my lids well, but you might need a shade lighter. You don't need much and can wear it alone if you're in a rush. It also lasts a long time. I just replaced my first pot that was over a year old. It still had product in it, I just don't like holding onto makeup that's older than a year. Good luck!

Hi @HulkSmashAF ,

I like the NARS Pro-Primeโ„ข Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Original . I hope this helps!

Best Wishes,

Janean

Re: Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

Another vote from me for the Nars Pro Prime @HulkSmashAF ! My lids are oily As well and itโ€™s the best for me. One tube lasts me about a year, or just shy of. I wear it 6 days a week. You only need the smallest amount.

I find the Anastasia eye primer works for me. I set it with powder

Re: Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

@HulkSmashAF  I also have hooded eyes, though my lids are usually dry. A couple of friends have oily lids, though. Hereโ€™s what I recommended to them that they love (I also regularly use these 2 primers):

NARS Pro-Primeโ„ข Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Original - creates a smooth base (for easy shadow blending) and greatly reduces creasing; comes in white, plus various tints.

SMASHBOX - 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer - I know you mentioned trying Smashbox, but they currently make 2 and the other one (Photo Finish Lid Primer) doesnโ€™t work for me nearly as well as this one. I use it when I need a grippier primer for sparkly shadows, like Pat McGrathโ€™s Blitz and Astral formulas, or very softly textured mattes like some of Natasha Denonaโ€™s.

Which Too Faced primer did you try? They also make a couple different ones. The only one of theirs I like is TOO FACED - Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue Glitter Bonding Eye Shadow Primer, but I prefer the Smashbox 24 Hour primer.

Re: Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

@HulkSmashAF

Oily lids here as well. UD didn't work for me. Too Faced was ok, but not my fave. Which Smashbox did you try? They make two, and I found that for me, one was total garbage (Photo Finish Lid Primer), but the other is fantastic and my all-time favorite (24Hr Photo Finish Shadow Primer).

NARS works really well for me too; I'll use it or Smashbox 24Hr interchangeably, but if I have to buy one, I buy Smashbox since it's cheaper.

I've also heard really good things about Milani for oily lids, but haven't tried it myself yet.

Re: Best eye primer for hooded oily lids?

@HulkSmashAF   I am not an afficiando, but I received one of Urban Decay's Anti Aging eye primer, and I really like it.  It seems to smooth the eye area some, and it did a great job keeping my eye makeup where it belongs for most of the day.  By the end of the day I was a little smeary, but we were having warm, sunny weather so that probably contributed to the situation.
