The Retail Equation

TRE only wants to line it's own pockets at the cost of its clients and their customers.  I think it should be disclosed to customers signing up for beauty insider accounts that a customer's private information will be shared with an outside 3rd party company.

Re: The Retail Equation Return Ban

tre Retail equation is collecting personal data and may be violating the California Consumer Privacy Act

you can ask for all data about you to be erased

they don’t provide notices to people who the ban

if you buy 3 faulty equipment such as microneedling device they refuse to allow returns

there is a class action going on right now because of alleged fraudulent refund refusal

i will not shop at Sephora

Re: The Retail Equation Return Ban

Hello, yuline.

I saw your comments and a reply to my comment on a previous thread. How frustrating to to see that your issue has not been resolved. Like you, I will also be taking my business elsewhere - to companies that do not participate in shady business practices with third parties, companies that respect their customers. Copied and pasted below is an update on my situation which I originally posted in a different thread:

Backstory

I purchased and subsequently wanted to return a concealer. The employee - too busy chatting with her coworker - accidentally charged me for the concealer I already paid for and wanted to return, so she had to end up giving me two refunds - one for the original refund and one for the one she accidentally charged me for. Along with my refund receipt, she handed me a warning slip saying that TRE may/may not accept my future refunds. Fast forward MONTHS later, I purchased a stick bronzer that would not twist up and wanted to EXCHANGE, NOT REFUND it, but was still denied. The manager told me to call customer service.

I called customer service and the person told me that Sephora sites and retailers operate differently despite being the same company - how *explicitly* ridiculous is that?! I was told to talk to a store manager. Anyway, rather than being stuck with a faulty product that I could not use, I decided to reach out to TRE and they emailed me a copy of my transaction history.

THERE ARE WELL OVER 50 TRANSACTIONS THAT ARE NOT MINE!!!! 50+ items I never purchased and 34 of those items were refunded, and NONE of the transactions show on my Sephora account, nor did I receive an e-receipt for them. For example, it says that I purchased and then returned a $229 Foreo, but I never did, never received an email for the purchase or refund, and this transaction does not show on my Sephora account. Had these transactions shown on my account/I received an e-receipt, I would have reported fraudulent activity.

This leads me to conclude that TRE and Sephora are behaving fraudulently in attempts to make money and save money, respectively. I think that they falsify purchase and refund histories in order to justify denying people refunds and exchanges.

WOW.💥😳

Re: The Retail Equation Return Ban

Below is the only point in Sephora's exchange policy where it notes that a customer's information will be given to a third party. I'd like to know how those of us who have NEVER returned an item without a receipt ended up in TRE's database.....

Returns without a receipt or that cannot otherwise be verified are at Sephora’s discretion and, will require a valid government issued photo ID that will be manually recorded at the time of the return. Information from your ID will be retained in a third party database of customer return activity that Sephora uses to authorize returns and prevent fraud. Information in this database will not be used for marketing purposes.

Re: The Retail Equation Return Ban

I’m also now being banned and am not only extremely frustrated, but very angry.  I’ve been a Rouge member since it launched and kept well into the $1000’s in Products.  So I over ordered during the sale...now Sephora will lose my business as I will be taking my money elsewhere!  I return mostly unused products with a receipt off of my account, and TRE is unable to state the actual policy of what is “excessive”.  I’ve seen everything from returning twice as much as purchased, excessive returns without a receipt, etc., none of which I do.  If this is how they are honoring loyalty and repeat purchases, they should reconsider their business practices.

Re: The Retail Equation Return Ban

I am in the same boat. I asked to return something brand new I ordered online in the store.  I just purchased it not too long ago. They asked for a receipt and I wanted to pull it up from my email but they said they could just look it up with my BI account. And I think somehow that triggers it. I'm on their black list. I do admit that I frequently returned things (mostly brand new never used) because I found a better price somewhere. Occasionally I return things that simply didn't work out. But I do keep a lot of stuff as well. I am also a rouge member. But honestly I find other places sometimes have better sale than Sephora. I guess I just won't shop there for another 365 days unless I know I can have a peace of mind as a consumer.
