Gift card account number and pin scratched off

Has anyone gotten a resolution for their gift card account number and pin being scratched off? The cashier scratched off the numbers on the back of my daughter’s gift card. She told her to call the number on the card. So far I’ve called 3 different Sephora numbers. One told me the cashier can just swipe the card, no pin needed. (We will try today but I’m not hopeful since the cashier didn’t just do that originally) another told me she can’t do anything and connected me with a different number that was just an automated message and was for electronic gift cards only. We can see the first 12 digits of the account number and the first and last two numbers of the PIN. This is super frustrating!

I am experiencing this same issue. I just removed the tape strip from the $50 giftcard I received for my birthday. Only some of the giftcard # is visible. The pin # I can make out fully, but not the card number. When I spoke to giftcard services they said I can try to use it in-store. I live 1.5 hours away from a store and do not wish to make that drive incase it does not work. I wanted to place my order before my birthday month was over tomorrow to get the birthday gift sample. This is very disappointing.

The same thing happened to me the other day. I did an online chat and was on with a representative. After about 5 minutes of waiting, I was disconnected from the chat.

If anyone is following this issue with gift cards, I went to a Sephora store today and as expected, it still didn’t work. While they did try many times to swipe the card and or scan the barcode, which I was told should work when I did the online chat with Sephora, the gift card could not be used. The computer could not swipe the card…they tried putting cardboard behind it, and a second gift card to make it thicker, but it was not successful. So I guess my daughter is out a $50 gift card…but I’m sure Sephora won’t mind, as I ended up paying for her stuff anyway because she was so disappointed. $100 for Sephora…. $50 worth of product for the customer. Awesome! Thanks!

Hi @LaurieBT  im having the same issue as everyone else . I was gifted a gift card and yesterday when i tried to use it the associate did it to hard that it scratch out some of the card number and they werent unable to swipe since it had some paper stuck that made it impossible for the computer to read it. Please help!

Hi Laurie - I see you’ve been able to help a few people with my same problem. I gifted my niece a gift card for Christmas. The package it came in damaged the magnetic strip and then someone- it’s unclear if it was a in store staff member or my niece - but someone scratched off the number too hard and part of it is u readable and unusable. The store told her it was already used- which is impossible. I picked it up on Christmas Eve and gave it to her that day. I have a photo of the back of the card. Anyway you can help me with figuring out the missing card numbers? 12 of the 16 card numbers are readable and the pin is fully in tact and readable.
