Delivering package issue

So i would like to know, because from beginning of this year i’ve had problems with delivery of my packages. Apparently you have to be home to receive the package if you live at the building. In my case, my mom has to be home to open the buzzer, or i have to be home to unlock the door from the inside with my buzzer. Most of the times deliveries are afternoon when both my mom and i work. Does that mean that i have to take a day off just to receive the package? I’ve had a problem with this every time i order online, and before, i did not since they would just be let in by someone from the building and leave it to my door, and i would just receive the picture of the delivered item. Please let me know about this. 

And if not, why can’t i just go to the delivery company at my city when they miss me at my home. Such as Purolator has at the downtown for example, or UPS. It’s frustrating especially when working hours are, i cannot just leave work. 

When they miss me, it just says attempt delivery in next 2 days, how could i know at what day or time they’re going to deliver the package?
