Adhesive on gift card removed the numbers and pin

1. I received $100 gift card from my mother on Mother’s Day. I thought it was a great gift until I tried to use it.  when removing the adhesive on the back to make my purchase, the numbers for the card and pin were removed. Some are visible and some are not. customer service told me to go to a Sephora store so they can scan it, I hope I am not out the money on  this gift. I’m very concerned and deeply disturbed that Sephora is allowing a known issue to continue.
