HELP!!! i’ve always had curly hair and didn’t start taking care of it till 2020/21. I’ve noticed from the beginning of 2024 my hair has been more limp and falls way more in the shower i’ve noticed that some hair products that i’ve been using for months have started to not do much for my hair such as curl creams/lotions. I shampoo my hair twice a week.I get it wet everyday and condition daily to detangle in the shower. My hair type went from 3c and i’m lucky if i can get it atleast to 3a/2c when finger curling or diffusing. The pic where i have my glasses is when after using a gel and cream and air drying. the pic with no glasses is after using creams, leave ins, styling with brush and fingers and diffusing even layers. Please i’ll take any tips to get back the definition i used to have!!

Re: help

There could be a number of reasons for your hair issues. I’m not a hair care professional but I have some ideas. First: you may have some product buildup - even if you wash your hair frequently. Silicons aren’t necessarily bad for your hair but they can stick to your hair and build up. Once they’ve build up too much, nothing else can penetrate your hair, including moisture or products. Solution: conservative use of a clarifying shampoo. Integrate a clarifying shampoo maybe once a month or every 6 weeks or something.
Second: you may have hygral fatigue. This happens when your hair is wet on a routine basis. I think wetting your hair everyday is probably too often. What happens is your hair expands every time it is wet - water gets into your hair follicles and is stretched every time this happens. Eventually, the continual stretching of your hair by being wet everyday stretches out your hair and, ultimately, weakens it.
I’m not a professional. If you can afford it, I would make going to see a professional stylist a regular occurrence even if it’s once a quarter of every 6 months. In this case, I’d find one sooner rather than later. This is their area of expertise and they can catch these things before they become a problem.
