Can someone please help me choose the right shade of concealer? Struggling so much

Hi,

I have been struggling for years trying to find the right shade of concealer to use all over my face. Every time I ask and I buy one it makes me look orange. I use the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Moisturizing Foundation in Bamboo Beige  ( I hope this  gives you an idea of what my skin tone is)

In the past I used a concealer by Makeup Forever full cover concealer in the shade 6. I remember this being perfect for my skin color but it broke me out so I couldn't use it anymore.

I have tried Clinique 24 hr wear concealer in the color Medium 15 (makes me look like a pumpkin. I have also tried Too Faced Naturally Radiant Concealer in the shade Light Medium (these two were recommended to me).

Please help me choose the right shade of concealer (I'm looking to try the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, but doesn't really matter, I just want the right shade).

Also if you can help me find an under-eye concealer to cover my dark circles that would be great (they are very purple /brown with some green). I know for under-eye its supposed to be a shade or 2 shades lighter.

THANK YOU 🙂

Hi @Hana411!

When your foundation or concealer turns orange, it is called "oxidization".  It's very common, especially if you have oily skin.  I have the exact same problem.

I suggest using oil free products to prevent that.

I use toners and exfoliators to help with oily skin so my makeup doesn't oxidize as much.  I like the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer Standard Size - 1 oz/ 30 mL  since it's oil free.

Concealer should not be used all over your face, especially if the foundation you're using is already medium or full coverage.  If this is what you're doing, that might be the reason for the oxidization.

Concealer is used for 2 reasons: covering blemishes like acne, or brightening your face.  For blemishes, only use concealer on the spots you want to cover.  I suggest using SEPHORA COLLECTION PRO Concealer Brush #57  and stipple for full coverage.

For covering dark circles, I have found that the undertone doesn't matter as long as it is 2 shades lighter than the foundation.  I use foundation with warm undertones but use a concealer with cool undertones and it works just fine!

You can use color correcting concealers for blemishes and dark circles.

If your dark circles are purple, use yellowish concealers.

If your dark circles are green, use a reddish concealer.
