Choosing my foundation shade

I need help choosing my foundation shade

Re: Choosing my foundation shade

Determining whether your skin is light, medium, or dark I would say is the first step and to use your best judgement based off of the time of year. I am light-medium in the winter and medium in the summer. The next step which I think people struggle with the most is determining your undertone, which doesn't change. I definitely have made some purchases in the past without knowing my undertone and it made my foundation look terrible! Here are some methods to determine which undertone you are:

1.  Vein Test: Look at the veins on your wrist in natural light. If they appear blue or purple, you likely have cool undertones. If they appear greenish, you likely have warm undertones. If you can't distinctly see blue or green, you might have neutral undertones.

2.Jewelry Test: Consider which jewelry looks best on your skin. If gold jewelry complements your complexion more, you likely have warm undertones. If silver jewelry looks better, you likely have cool undertones. If both look good, you likely have neutral undertones.

3. White Cloth Test: Hold a white piece of cloth or paper next to your face in natural light. If your skin appears more yellowish or golden against the white, you likely have warm undertones. If your skin appears pinkish or rosey, you likely have cool undertones. If it's hard to determine, you might have neutral undertones.

4 Tan Test: Consider how your skin reacts to sun exposure. If you tend to tan easily and your skin has a golden or olive tone, you likely have warm undertones. If you burn easily and your skin has a pink or rosy tone, you likely have cool undertones. If your skin doesn't fit neatly into either category (i.e. I'm dark Irish, so I burn initially and then it turns to tan and I tan easily going forward), you might have neutral undertones.

Hopefully that helps and you have a better idea on what to choose for a shade! You can also go into Sephora if you still are unsure and they can do a scan to give you an exact match for brands you like!

@Taynicolee56 do you live near a Sephora?  They can do a skin scan and find a match for you based on budget, coverage, skin concerns etc,

Re: Choosing my foundation shade

This is great advice @Taynicolee56

Like @CorgiMommy says, you can go in store and they scan your skin. They could help you find a match right in store or when you go home and log into your account, for some foundations and concealers, it will now tell you your shade match. 🤩 How handy is that?? 😄
