Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

This is probably the wrong place to post but before you buy the new veil setting powder, check it out in store, try a sample or watch Michele Wang YouTube. Don’t do a duh liked me buying it blind since I almost always love Hourglass products. This new veil powder didn’t work for me. I hate it. Thinking about returning it. 😭

RE: Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@blackkitty2014, wasn’t the old formula a pure white powder? It used to be my favorite. I JUST bought this a few weeks ago as I loved their old Veil powder. It is definitely different. Wish I would have read this first🙄

Re: RE: Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

Oh I’m sorry @eshoe that it didn’t work for you either. I ended up returning it and buying the DE Protini and used it up too 🤪

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@blackkitty2014  This was my first dud for Hourglass myself.  I don't know if maybe I applied too much, but it dulled my complexion, which I don't need.  Maybe it was a result of the shade of the powder that did it; I have no idea.  Ilia's setting powder worked much better for me.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@Ispend2much6, i'm sorry it didnt work for you either.  I didnt buy it during the sale when it was first released because i want to wait for reviews.  Since it has such overwhelming love, i bought it without discount 😞 Unfortunately, it didnt work for me so i returned it at store and causing me tangle in another mess (i posted in Beauty Pet Peeve thread).  Ugh!!

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@blackkitty2014 Wish I would’ve seen your thoughts before I ordered it the other day! 🤣 I’ll be curious to try it too. These are always tricky for me so who knows. I’ll have to go check out CT next if you love it. I don’t always use them so probably don’t even need it! I feel like I read that Suqqo has a good one, have you seen it or tried or maybe I’m confused! No surprise if so! 🤣 Xx

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@Sunnysmom, HG might still work for you.  I love CT one. I'm waiting for Net-a-Porter to restock Medium shade to get a backup (why not at that price lol).  Have you tried the La Mer one?  That one is also having raving reviews but i'm iffy with La Mer brand since i think their skin care lines are overhyped 😉 I'm soo biased you see? 😉 PS I havent tried any Suqqu product yet (I'm worrying about my pocketbook.  I might never be able to retire if i keep buying makeups ;)).

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@blackkitty2014 Yup will just have to see. Who knows. It arrives today. I haven’t tried La Mer and I do agree with you that products are a bit over-hyped. I did try the Concentrate when I had a skin issue prob from eye allergy or something and it seemed to help tho I didn’t want to believe it. Lol. Will check out the Suqqu ( darn phone auto correct previously!) as well. Agree on $- keep saying ok now this will be it for awhile. And never is!! Always something else. Oh well. It’s fun and we all deserve it right. And is harmless. 😬☺️ And we also make new fun friends! 😘😘

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

I didn't like it either, Im sure I could always change my mind later down the road ha. But i found it super sheer and 'sparkly'. I still love my LM and every time i try and find another powder to alternate with, i just go back to solely LM.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@blackkitty2014 What's not working for you... formula, packaging, something else? I buy a lot of Hourglass but haven't tried this yet.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@fieldsofclover, If you go watch Michele Wang youtube, she's pretty sum up what i feel about it except for i havent tried to use it as finishing powder.  I like her but not necessary agree with all her reviews but this on this particular powder, i think she nails it.  The design is sleek but i dont feel like it dispense enough product with 1 tap and therefore there is not enough cover.  With 2 taps, i get way more than what i need.  The 2nd time, i used it, it make me all cakey.  The more i use it, the more i dislike it.  It's just too much work for me at this point..  This is probably the first Hourglass product that i dont like.  (I love their primer, powder, blush, lip stylo etc etc).  My HG setting powder at the moment is Charlotte Tilbury powder so i think i will stick with that one (same price).  Oh forget to say i'm combo normal skin (if that makes any difference).  Who knows, it might work for you (as it did for majority of ppl) but try it out first before you buy just in case.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

hmm i might have to watch that. i got the feeling that it might be better as a finishing powder as well. However, whenever i've added a finishing powder to my routine it usually doesn't last long as i don't always have time for the extra step

The HOURGLASS Thread

the hourglass highlighter stick somehow has a 5 star rating I got a sample of it in champagne flash and for whatever reason it's not glowy and blinding but also just looks cakey am I doing something wrong bc it looks awful and it has a 5 star rating

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

Could be the color. I agree - for me, Champagne Flash is horrible. And that’s the one they have been making all the deluxe samples in. I got a foil sample of Pink Flash though and it’s awesome. Can’t wait to buy it!to be honest, it feels a little creamier than the champagne Flash does. So it’s not just the color.

RE: The HOURGLASS Thread

How are you applying the highlighter @diamondlove? I find it works best directly from the tube and before powder. If you are putting it on top of powder I recommend using your fingers or a more densely packed highlighter brush to get the max effect.

The HOURGLASS Thread

Looking for mainly opinions on Vanish Stick for fair cool toned skin. It's a struggle having pink undertones. I refuse to swatch after that gross CBC investigation, no I cant link it, mods will delete. Anyway, how do we find it...does this blend well, do you have to use a lot? Does it rub off all over everything?

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@GG84 I'm just chiming in to also confirm that a little bit of the foundation goes a long way. I love the buildable coverage, and it's definitely blendable. I find that it lasts all day for me, especially when used with a primer.

I can't comment much on shades, but I will say that Shell, which is supposed to be light neutral, is the perfect shade for me, and I lean neutral-warm.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@txcatx You are my shade twin! 🙂

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@GG84 I have fair skin but I think it leans more to neutral undertones than cool undertones. I have the shade Alabaster and the tiny bit of the shade Shell left. I would say go with Alabaster because it’s pretty fair/cool toned. I used up all of my Shell shade because that fits me a lot better than Alabaster. I have oily skin and I love the radiant, dewy, full coverage look it gives me. It goes on smoothly and you only need about a swipe per side of the face to do your full face (a little goes a long way). I don’t find that it rubs off on me despite my oily skin. I can take a nap and everything is still in tact after my nap.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@gonerogue Thanks so much for your help!

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

I have 2 of these haha. One is in Alabaster which is for fair, cool undertones and I definitely think it's the right description. From what you said you're looking for I think it would be a good match to try out.

I have normal to dry skin, so for me I find it absolutely necessary to go in with a hydrating primer first. If I don't use a hydrating primer and I have some dry patches, the foundation will cling to it and look pretty cakey.

It blends really well, I prefer using a dense foundation brush with this as opposed to my beauty blender. I have redness which is my main concern and even with that I find that I don't have to use too much of this product, a little goes a long way!

The finish is so nice and natural. It wears really well throughout the day and I don't notice it transferring. I don't set it with a loose powder, I just lightly finish with an ALP 🙂
