Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

I haven’t seen/heard much chatter about this so hey, Hourglass is FINALLY letting us truly customize a palette for USD $78:

Screenshot of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit promo email I received this week.Screenshot of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit promo email I received this week.

There are 5 curated quads with fixed shades, or you can customize a quad with any 4 shades (from a selection of 23 shades) you want. I wish there were more than 23 available shades, but I still managed to build a custom quad I think will work well for me as a travel buddy:

Screenshot of my customized quad; I added shade labels.Screenshot of my customized quad; I added shade labels.

“But don’t you already have some of those shades in other HG palettes?” Yep, 2 of ‘em: Tiger’s Burnished Glow and Evil Eye’s Oasis Glow. Sure, I could just travel with Tiger or Evil Eye. But a quad’s more travel-friendly, and I wanted blush shades I can mix/layer. Example: I bet Sunset Glow + Burnished Glow = a lovely terracotta. Plus, I can use Oasis Glow as more than a blush.

Sunset Glow is from the Elephant palette, which I would’ve bought had I not also swatched Tiger in-store. IIRC, Opal Strobe Light is from the Jellyfish palette. I almost swapped Sunset Glow for Lucid Glow; that one’s from the Ghost quad, which I’ve traveled with several times.

I wish Hourglass would note which existing or discontinued palettes all 23 shades are from. That’d make things much easier for folks trying to avoid repeats. Also, there are only 4 finishing powders, but at least HG tried (I assume) to keep various skin tones in mind there.

“Ugh, $78 is too much for a quad, even if it’s customizable!” No argument from me there. 🫠 Then again, this is Hourglass we’re talking about… y’all know how they price everything by now. If you find one of the several 10% affiliate promo codes floating around, they’ll work on this quad. I also just got my Rakuten BFC via Paypal, so I used some of that toward this quad. I’m supposed to be in low-buy mode this year, but I’m also in “yay I can finally travel again” mode, so travel-friendly options keep catching my eye. This quad would’ve been good to have during my very recent Nevada/Arizona trip.

Anyone else planning to customize a quad or buy one of the 5 curated quads?

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

It would be such a good idea to put favorites together in a smaller quad @WinglessOne ! Even if having a bunch of them I guess. Terrific for traveling. Did you see Charlotte Holdcroft YouTube by any chance? She gives a wonderful summary of all the shades and in what palettes. So helpful! I don’t want to spend the money but I like the idea if I’d ever want to do it! @curlychiquita

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@Sunnysmom  Ah, good to know someone’s put together an all-shades definition & palette map. When customizing my quad, I had to search for swatch photos of a few 6-pans to remind myself which ones had certain shades. 🙃

Kinda which Hourglass has offered up a few brand new shades for customization or in the curated quads. I remember saying, elsewhere in this thread, that HG should just let us customize palettes if they’re gonna keep repeating shades in the Edit palettes, so at least we can pick which repeats we actually want. And oh look, here we are. 🤣

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

I thought about doing it @WinglessOne and my brain got exhausted before even starting it! 🤣Great timing to see Charlotte’s hard work! It’s wonderful to finally have this option. Took them a minute lol. I wonder how they’ll be in the pan, you know? Since they’re baked? Will the customized pans be the same? Must be. Show us if you are doing it please. I will probably never ever use mine up in my lifetime so I am trying not to do a quad but I still want to! I would love to do a blush quad. Shocker. Must. Behave! 🥺

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@Sunnysmom  I’ll definitely share feedback on my custom quad when it arrives. I also wondered if these will be on mesh pans like other Hourglass AL powders/blushes. Guess I won’t know until I pan a shade 😂 but I assume they’re the same as other HG ALs. That probably means the palette’s not magnetic: HG will permafix each pan in the palette like they do any other AL palette, except these are shades picked by the customer. I’ve actually panned a Brilliant Nude single before (using it as a center-of-face brightener, plus I always traveled with it), so I can see myself panning a much smaller quad pan.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@WinglessOne Oh I bet so. I did wonder if magnetic, can’t be. The satisfaction of panning will be a terrific reward! I have done it on my Luminous blush and mini! Shocked and loved the fact that I actually can! Lol. They do know their way around shades and finishes! Excited to see yours.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

This is a great idea! I’ll look this up, @WinglessOne.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@curlychiquita  If you decide to order one, lemme know which shades or curated quad you picked! (Hi, I’m nosy. 😂

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

Dragon palette is great! I was worried it would be too warm, and it’s slightly warm, but better than any of the previous holiday releases for my skin tone (fair pink). As I expected, the highlight is too dark for me, but will make a nice eyeshadow. You can’t really see the finishing powders as they match my skin. They’re swatched on top above the first blush.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

Just for fun I decided to swatch the finishing powders. These are swatches on the back of my hand/wrist, which is darker than the rest of my skin, and I swatched them super heavily to try to build up the colour. I really like Divine Light, but Dream light is very high-sheen with a noticeable peachy pink shift on my skin. I actually used it as a highlighter. Ethereal Light has been my finishing powder of choice for many years. From top to bottom:

  1. Dream Light
  2. Divine light
  3. Ethereal Light

@Beadshopgirl  I love Dream Light!  The shades do look beautiful on you.

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

@Beadshopgirl  lovely swatches, thank you for sharing! I think I am similar in skin tone/shade to you so it's very helpful! Love your idea to use the highlight as an eyeshadow!

These are very good this year @curlychiquita ! Love the new shades and they’re really easy too! Are you getting any?

Re: The HOURGLASS Thread

Not this year, @Sunnysmom. I love the new colors but I’m still using my old one.
