desperately need help finding a new shampoo

(and conditioner). The individual strands of my hair are very fine but I have a-lot of it so I have a very full head of hair. My hair is naturally straight, and gets crazy oily literally within a day. I've tried to be less dependent on shampoo, it didn't help, I've tried different shampoos, they were either too drying and harsh, or had too much products in them like silicone and add ins that made my hair gross thick and have tons of build up, and as a result my scalp gets very red and itchy. I used to use pantene but it caused build up and an itchy scalp. I switched to head and shoulders anti-itch to detox and my hairdresser said it was too cleansing and caused my hair to produce more oils. So I then tried perfect hair day shampoo and It makes my hair too voluminous, has build up, and also makes my scalp itchy. I really want to find a natural shampoo that wont irritate my scalp, thats not voluminous, doesn't cause build up, and won't dry out my hair. If anyone has any advice please let me know.

RE: desperately need help finding a new shampoo

I am a hair stylist and I’m not sure if you are able to get it where you are but Redken’s all soft shampoo and conditioner is amazing for chemically treated hair and they have a natural version of it called nature and science all soft which is free of like everything with greatingredients. I’ve never tried the nature + science version but I use theregular version all the time! I go back and forth between four different shampoo and conditioners but by far the best and it’s so concentratedyou only need a small amount so it lasts a long time! Use a quarter size amount of shampoo if it doesn’t foam up the best rinse and go in withanother quarter size and it should foam more and you will notice it willfeel cleaner after. Also if your hair gets greasy easily try to only put conditioner on your ends hope that helps!

RE: desperately need help finding a new shampoo

Hi, I’m not a professional by any stretch of the imagination. I have thin hair, that I highlight and low light pretty faithfully. I started using the Kerastase line, and my Hair Stylist has commented on how great my hair feels and what great condition it’s in. It’s a bit pricey, but I think it’s worth it. Good Luck!!

RE: desperately need help finding a new shampoo

Any recommendations on which line?

Re: desperately need help finding a new shampoo

@Sahdshjsfirst up - you have gorgeous hair! Whoever does your color did a fantastic job!! I’ve had similar issues with build up and dry/itchy scalp. I found what helps me is using t-gel once a week to help get rid of the itchiness/flakes. I’ve also taken to using the SEPHORA COLLECTION - Scalp Massager in the shower. I’ll put my shampoo in and then use the tool to help really get at my scalp. It feels nice but it also has really helped with my scalp health. I don’t get as much flakiness or build up from dry shampooo or products. I use Briogeo Superfoods Banana + Coconut Nourishing Shampoo + Conditioner Duo for Dry Hair on the days that I don’t use the medicated shampoo. I have fine hair that gets oily fairly easily. I also use a lot of dry shampoo to hold me over between washes (the IGK First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo 6.3 oz/ 288 mL is by FAR the best I’ve tried. I can go 4-5 days and the roots still look like I just washed it)

yes my hair stylist is awesome! thank you!:) and thank you for the advice!

RE: Re: desperately need help finding a new shampoo

sounds like we have a really similar hair type!! I was looking into getting a scalp massager! I also live by dry shampoo too lol. Thanks for the help!

Re: desperately need help finding a new shampoo

I love Briogio Banana + Coconut shampoo and conditioner. I have very fine hair and this has been almost a miracle set for me. Plus I love the smell.

I would recommend these things (as a hair stylist) - if your hair is quick to become oily, yet you have issues with scalp sensitivity, a quality dry shampoo (and/or dry conditioner) is a great option. If you shampoo too often, it will strip moisture from your hair, thus causing it to produce even more oil to make up for it. Just as your skin will. A very gentle, mild shampoo and conditioner are your best bet. As few additives as possible. With a dry shampoo in between washes. Just my 2 cents.

@Sahdshjs

Hm. I don’t want to make this a big thing but your issue is not silicones, it’s the fillers in the drug store products you are buying that are leaving a film deposit on your hair.
Please take my advice, book yourself into a salon that preforms Malibu Crystal Gel Treatments.
This is a deeply clarifying in salon treatment that must be done by a professional. Your hair problems will literally disappear. The slate will be wiped clean for you to start fresh on a proper regimen.

thank you for the advice! I wasn't really sure exactly what it was but I knew it was something with the shampoos i was using

Re: desperately need help finding a new shampoo

I have the same kind of hair with the same sort of problems—lots of hair but thin that easily gets oily.  For a while I used John Masters Natural Bare shampoo & conditioner (no fragrance and worked really well) but they discontinued producing it.  So I tried a sample of Oribe Gold Lust and it was amazing!  I switched over to their hair products in the Gold Lust line and it’s solved everything!!! It’s pricey, but it’s definitely been worth it to me to not be constantly concerned with my hair/scalp/skin and throwing out unused product. I typically buy the holiday set which gets you a shampoo, conditioner, and hair oil (~$115 this year).  The shampoo lasts me 5-6 months, conditioner 8-10 months, hair oil 12-14 months.

lol i know what you mean by throwing out unused bottles. I've tried so many shampoos that didnt work or i found out have ingredients contributing to my problems. Thank you for the recommendation!
