a thread to talk about your hair goals / experiments / fails / wins / products etc. consider this a RANDOM THOUGHTS: HAIR thread 🙂
when i joined BT years ago, i was at the beginning phases of growing out a shaved head, after a decade of cropped pixie cuts and avant garde styles as well as defying my natural texture. my hair is past my shoulders now, and am fully immersed in this world of hair care and styling that i had been absent from for so long.
this thread can be about anything. thoughts, questions, anecdotes that you feel like sharing but for whatever reason don't want to start an independent thread about. cheers !
@greenchilliyour hair is so beautiful! I admire you for not using holding/texturizing/colouring products.
I have been dyeing my hair dark brown (from black) for probably the last 10 years. I find my flat black hair so boring. To top it off, I have lots of greys and have had them since I was about 13. Totally due to genetics--my mom h ad them too when she was younger.
I'm trying to grow out the dyed portion and not use any colouring on my hair anymore. We'll see how long that goes for before I can't stand it anymore...
How long does it typically take you to blow dry your hair?
@k617 Thank you!
My fingers are constantly in my hair .....it is a tick. Actually, I am very tactile with my hair and eyes. I really can't have product in/on them.
It takes me less than 10 minutes to blow dry my hair and be ready to go.
I use the dryer alone to dry the hair randomly. Once completely dry, I use a round brush to make a quick pass through my hair, using the dryer here and there to smooth it out. After that it is on its own.
@greenchilli Wow, less than 10 minutes is amazing!! It already takes me 10 minutes with my Dyson (was a little longer with my old dryer), and my hair is quite a bit shorter than yours. I'm hoping it doesn't take me much longer even if it grows longer.
@greenchilli - I love your particularness and boringness! Your hair is awesome! 🙂
Stop teasing me with your beautiful hair. If that is boring sign me up, I don't care I want that hair.
@greenchilli you have real life mermaid hair! i can't believe how healthy and shiny it looks too. love love love!
Long thick shiny hair is not boring!!! It's fabulous!
@greenchilli if i had your hair i'd be (ostensibly) boring and precise just as you are. GLORIOUS.
@jemly haha! Thank you.
I live at the crossroads where "terrible laziness" meets the "need to be in control".
The pic doesn't actually do justice to how amaizng your hair looks in person @greenchilli! It is so beautiful! I remember this pic! I'm still amazing how much hair you have! Hair goals for real!
*dreamy sigh* I love the simplicity and perfection of your hair. I want to try deep conditioning treatments and Brazilian blowouts. I wonder if it would help at all with my forever-frizz or if that is just an unavoidable part of my mixed hair type.
@Gwenhwyfar *muah!
When I got a Brazilian blowout in the past, it was primarily to address frizz during a bad Spring storm season. This was also particularly helpful when I traveled for work almost every week and couldn't be bothered waking up in a different time zone for an early meeting and having to fuss over waist length hair.
Give it a go (be selective on which place you pick).
My jaw literally just dropped. Your hair is stunning!
Thank you all for your kind words 🙂
Oh boy do I have a hair journey to share!
So I'm naturally blonde, but in the last 10 years my hair has been literally every color on the natural spectrum. I was changing the color or cut every few months, and then I was happy with brunette and patiently grew it out for a few years. And then here's everything that changed within the space of about 18 months:
I'm very proud that I managed to completely DIY the brunette-to-blonde process without destroying my hair! Even the stylist who does my cut was impressed at how healthy I kept it. Patience and coconut oil are key!
After going back to blonde, I went all in and grew it out a little and kept it platinum AF for a summer and change:
And here's what I've settled into now, and what I expect to keep for the foreseeable future. My color is all natural for the first time in a decade, and I'm SO happy with this particular cut, which isn't completely maintenance-free, but requires very little. (Pardon my mostly makeup-free face -- I've gotten super lazy lately.)
And just for fun, here's my first experiment with temporary dye at age 12 or 13 or so, well before I got into the commitment of permanent. It was supposed to be brunette, and the box specifically said it was not for use on blonde hair, but my mom said it would be fine. It was not fine.
@jemly, thank you for this thread!! ❤️
