I need a hair dryer. Help me pick! I’m looking at T3 GHD and Bioionic— which one?? Open to a any and all suggestions but please elaborate! Is it lightweight, fast, smoothing etc.
I imagine there will be some dyson lovers. It’s prob not in the cards but all comments welcome!
I got a Drybar Buttercup last fall and I love it. The 3 speeds of fan and 3 temperatures make it perfect for drying my hair whether it's wet from just being washed or damp from exercising. It's light in weight but very sturdy (my dog wagged it off the sink top with her tail once onto a tile floor and nothing broke!) I had a Bioionic travel dryer before but it gave up the ghost after a couple of years, presumably because it got banged up a lot in my luggage.
@prettyinpa that is amazing about your doggie!! I wasn't considering the buttercup but now I may! Thanks!!
@scarletb- Yep, this is a problem that only giant breed owners have. Her tail is at bathroom counter height and she can drink from the kitchen sink. I have to make sure there is never unattended soapy water in the sink as she thinks it's much tastier than water in her bowl. lol
@scarletb I had a Bio Ionic Power Light for about 10 years and I loved it. I recently had to throw it away, but it was because the cord connection must've worn out from all the bending over the years. The motor worked just fine. Pretty light, extremely long cord, a good selection of heat/speeds and the best darn cool shot button I ever had on a dryer. If I'm not mistaken, the Drybar Buttercup is the same dryer.
I replaced it with an Elchim 3900 Healthy Ionic which was a little cheaper but had good reviews. I've been pretty happy with it so far (although I've only had it for about a week). It seems to do a really nice job with my curls (I purchased the diffuser that's specifically made for it) and the number of heat/speed settings is comparable to the Bio Ionic. Actually the results I get are all comparable to the Bio Ionic although I think the BI might have been a tiny bit more sturdy.
I did have a T3 a while back, but I much preferred the Bio Ionic to it. I just never felt it was all that it was cracked up to be.
@jozkid a that’s so interesting you think it’s the same as dry bar! I’m reeeeallly getting sold on the bioionic!
@jozkid Oh yes I looove a deal! I’ve thought about getting it 20% off at the next VIB sale, but I actually have $100 off from the Sephora rewards bazar plus a gift card from using Wikibuy cash back. I wish I could use the $100 off at the VIB sale but it’s a promo code and you can only use one.
@scarletb Well, there ya go! You have the option of the Bio Ionic Ultra Light at Sephora or the Power Light (in the Drybar Buttercup). Just be aware that the Ultra Light is a little more limited in either speed or heat (I can't remember which). I think it's one speed, three heats because its emphasis is on quick drying. Not that that's a bad thing, you just need to consider your needs. I think it's a great way to invest your $100. Just remember that with the $100 rouge reward, you CANNOT return the item unless it's damaged. If you're near an Ulta, they often have the dryers out and plugged in so you can play with them. Might be worth checking them out first.
Great review on the Bio Ionic @jozkid. Since DevaCurl came to BIC I have been using their blow dryer with the diffuser attachment but it takes forever for my hair to dry due to the lower wattage. I purchased that blow dryer about 7 years ago but I definitely would not recommend that version. I am not sure if their newest blow dryer has higher wattage.
I'm obsessed with the revlon one step dryer right now @scarletb!
Benefits:
- quick dry time
- helps to create smooth locks with a bit of shape
- easy to use; I wouldn't call it lightweight but it certainly isn't heavy, and the handle is comfortable to hold
- 3 settings, low and slow, cool, and high and fast
* it gets pretty got on the fast setting
Drawbacks:
- only creates smoothed out hair; with a traditional blow dryer you can typically change attachment heads but this tool is a one and done deal (I have another blowdeyer that I use to diffuse when I don't want my hair smoothed out).
- when the bristles wear out I assume it won't work as well but I don't think that will be an issue for some time.
Natural curly hair diffused, hair smoothed out using the revlon one step hair dryer
@bakeamuffin You probably get tired of hearing this, but I LOVE your curls!

SORRY, HAD TO
Which blow dryer do you use when you diffuse your hair @bakeamuffin ? Your curls are beautiful!
lol i love how you just posted the photo without any comments. like mic drop 'nuff said! @bakeamuffin ETA: doh! just saw your post above!
@scarletb another vote for this revlon dryer! i've never been patient enough to perfect the round-brush-hairdryer blowout so this was perfect for me. had it for a year and absolutely love it.
Yes @drrragon !!! Not patient either!! I think I may go with the hot tools version though 😬
@scarletb let us know how you like it once you've got it! 🙂
@bakeamuffin yes I have been considering this one! But then I saw the hot tools and dry bar one too! You think the revlon is the way to go?
@scarletb Through all the reviews that I went over, it seems that they are very similar, the main difference being that the drybar tool gets less hot, which could help in reducing heat damage, but you should be using a heat styling spray anyways, and there's always the cool function if someone wanted to avoid heat altogether.
In the end, I just didn't feel comfortable with the cost of the drybar version but if I had extra funds it would have been a more difficult decision.
Thanks @bakeamuffin ! I want a regular hair dryer as well so maybe I will go for the revlon... that said I did some research on the hot tools and it seems like it’s also less heat damaging and for only $20 more than the revlon! Definitely something to think about thanks! 🙏
