Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

It's 2025 and we're on YEAR EIGHT (8) of the Pan It! Challenge 🍾

ElleElleG_0-1736241477220.gif

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Spoiler

For those of you who are interested in trying the challenge but fear you may not finish or move as quickly as others, remember:

So sorry for the delay! I still cannot login on a laptop and I went through every browser I had available. Apologies if the new thread looks a little wonky.

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

Great work @Samtian ! Those are some large pans and you’ve made major progress.

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

@Samtian girl, those are some significant dents!  I bet that feels so satisfying 🤗.

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

Whoa, you did some spectacular work this year @Samtian! I feel like you set some lofty targets for yourself to begin with so getting as close to them as you did is no small feat. Look at your numbers for pan and look at how much progress you're making. And all those uses - that's super impressive how you get to so many of your products AND keep track of them.

Another year of pan it! challenge complete! Excited to see what you have planned for 2026!!

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

December 2025 Update
12.2025 Pan 1.jpg
One final product finished this month, a few days ago actually - the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Bakuchiol Eye Cream. There's a lot of product in this seemingly small tube. I have a handful of other eye cream / eye products to work through and would like to make some progress on those before repurchasing this one.
12.2025 Pan 3.jpg
12.2025 Pan 2.jpg
Noticeable progress made on the DIOR Nail Glow Polish 0.3oz / 10 mL and LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask – Intense Hydration Lip Treatment with Vitamin C Vanilla (this version in my pan it! challenge is from a limited edition collab). I'll likely carry the Laneige over to next year's pan it! challenge, with the goal of using it up by the end of 2026. 🤞 I'm seriously impressed with folks who finish their full size Laneige lip sleeping masks; those jars feel like they're never ending. [I'm halfway there @blackkitty2014 so IF (and it really is a big IF) I can keep consistent with my use next year, I *should* be able to get through this jar by the end of 2026.]

The most challenging products from this year's challenge were the HERMÈS Barénia, Eau de Parfum 1 oz / 30 ml eau de parfum spray and the Hourglass Mini Ambient® Lighting Powder Dim Light. The former because it's really better suited to the cooler seasons on my skin. Finishing powder isn't something I instinctively reach for as part of my makeup routine, but the Hourglass Dim Light saw more use when I made an effort to include it in at least one weekly makeup capsule every month. I'll try to keep up with that approach in 2026. Not sure if it'll make a dent in the product but it'll mean I get a little more use from of it (and hopefully consistent use at that), and that counts for something

2025 Pan it! Challenge Final Summary
Pan It 2025 - All Products (Flatlay).jpg
Finished 4 out of 10 products which isn't that great from a pure numbers perspective, but all four are items I would repurchase. Three I'll hold off on repurchasing until I work my way through a few other similar products in my stash; one I'll place an order for before the end of the year.

Comments
1.
OSEA Undaria Algae Body Oil
Use by 6.30.2025
First of the 2025 pan it! Product that I  used up (6.30.2025) - the original pump on this gets clogged up too easily too often. It was easier to work through the product once I replaced the pump.
2.
Dior Nail Glow
See how long to finish
Did not reach for this item as often as I should have. Only got through 1/3 of the bottle. I'll likely include this in the Shop Your Stash Challenge Winter 2026 (but for use in February & March)
3.
Hermes Barenia
See how long to finish
This one really got lost in a sea of fragrances, in large part because it's really only suited on my skin during the fall/winter months. I need to go through my fragrance collection to see if there's a good perfume to layer with this Hermes  for the warmer seasons.
4.
Vegamour GRO Scalp Detox
Finish by EOY
Finished 10.2025. This will be repurchased but during the spring sale as I want to work through at least 1 of 2 detox shampoos currently open and in use.
5.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
See how long to finish
100% expected this one to take some time to finish by my word!!! Rolling this over into next year's pan it! challenge with the aim of using it up by or before the end of 2026.
6.
Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Bakuchiol Eye Cream
See how long to finish
Finished earlier this month, 12.2025. I would repurchase but have a handful of eye creams to work my way through first.
7.
Cle de Peau The Foundation
See how long to finish
Reminded how much I enjoy this product. It's spendy so I will definitely continue to incorporate it more regularly into my makeup routine. Thinking about whether to include this in next year's pan it! challenge; leaning towards doing so.
8.
Typology Lip Peel
See how long to finish
Finished 11.2025; will repurchase
9.
YSL Couture Mini Clutch Stora Dolls
Pan one shadow
One of my favorite eyeshadow palettes; need to reach for it more frequently. This will roll over to next year's pan it! challenge.
10.
Hourglass Mini Ambient Lighting Powder Dim Light
Hit pan
Started using this more when I made it a part of at least one makeup capsule a month. Leaning towards including it in next year's pan it! challenge - it may be the only way I remember to reach for it. Eeek!

Alright, off to finalize my product choices and goals for the 2026 pan it! challenge. Excited to hear everyone's progress with their pan items this year, and looking forward to the thread for 2026's pan it! challenge going live @ElleElleG. Can't wait to see what everyone will be working on panning next year! 💖 I keep going back and forth on a couple of items @Samtian but I'll firm up my choices in the next few days - well, I mean, I pretty much have to since 2026 will be here before we know it! 😆

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

Whoop whoop, go @itsfi ! Youre leaving us in the dust

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

lol, hardly the case, but thank you @ElleElleG for your kindess, always. The pan it! challenges have really been helpful in getting me on a consistent routine with product use. Seriously. Either that or they've made it clear when something is just not going to work for me 😂 which is also helpful! Thank YOU! Looking forward to another year of panning!

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

@itsfi You still did amazing! And you juggled so many different projects, shop your stash, capsule, foil, pan. Hats off to you! The way you are working on the lip mask is intriguing! A lot healthier than the way I use lip masks haha. It looks so cool though.

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

Awww, thank you @Samtian! Finding a way to get all the challenges to work for me or to connect / interconnect together in a way that works for me is the key - that has taken a little bit of trial and error, as well as some brainstorming and working and reworking the problem so to speak to get it down where it flows pretty easily for the most part. The pieces come together a little more each year.

lol, I have to find creative ways to use the Laneige lip mask because working through it is a long game, for sure. Hahaha! Doing this way has made me more careful about making sure I keep the little spatula it comes with because I need it to scoop product out this way; this may be the first jar where I haven't lost the spatula. Well, technically, I think I did misplace it a couple of times earlier this year but I actually put the effort to look for it instead of just giving up and using my fingers to pick up product. 🤣

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

Yes yes yes 👍 you will pan that lip mask @itsfi  🌹❤️ I am more than half done with my Matcha or green tea lip mask too maybe Feb or March 2026 😘 We will get there together 🥰

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

Oh wow, that's amazing @blackkitty2014! You're going to get through that lip mask in no time, go, go, go!!! 😍 I'm just about done finalizing my picks for what I want to work on panning for next year. Just have to line 'em up for a photo 📸; that's on my 'to do' list.

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

The last tenants of the Shelves of Shame to be evicted for December 2025!! With four days left in the year, I don’t have anything else close to being done.

BBW body cream AND hand cream in Black Cherry Merlot: notes are dark cherry, black raspberry, and sumptuous merlot. One of my favorite BBW scents ever because I enjoy smelling like food (in this case, a juicy squishy fruit snack). I can’t wait to repurchase for late summer/early fall.

Body & Earth Bath Spa hand cream and body butter in Orchid: no notes listed on the gift box but it’s a fresh, airy purple floral. Kind of reminds me of BBW Fresh Cut Lilac. This was part of a gift set last Christmas, so it enjoyed a full year of tenancy. I didn’t like the formulas at all, but the scent was lovely.

Ban AHA roll-on serum deodorant in unscented: not my favorite because it’s very liquidy/runny and it eventually started smelling like ingredients instead of being unscented. Also, it has no antiperspirant properties. I used it at night after showering and would not repurchase.

Lux body wash in Soft Rose (French rose and almond oil): this was a gift from a relative’s overseas trip. It was a really pretty fresh/watery rose scent, which is my preferred kind of rose. Formula lathered really nicely, was hydrating, and overall an enjoyable experience. I’m not sure if I could find it again, but I happily would purchase if I didn’t have 50 pounds of bar soap waiting to be used (no, that’s not an exaggeration).

Amika Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Conditioner: another Christmas gift from a previous year. This was a smidge too heavy for my fine, straight hair but worked out because it got used in late fall/winter when it’s dry out. I flew through this conditioner in two months. At $28 for a 9.2 fl oz bottle I think it’s a bit too expensive for my current circumstances, so no repurchasing at this time.

Kristin Ess Hair The One Signature Conditioner: another one that felt a smidge too heavy on my hair, but this is less than half the price of Amika. I reached for this one with far less consistency than Amika, so it’s taken longer to use up. I don’t think I’d repurchase, unless my hair is feeling really dry and crunchy.

Method shampoo in Daily Zen (previously decanted into the Briogeo shampoo bottle pictured): IT’S FINALLY DONE. Notes are cucumber, seaweed and green tea. This was the last of my Method sulfate-free shampoos. I can tell my scalp and hair are unhappy at my long-term use of a sulfate-free product, and I can now happily go back to my sulfates that provide the level of cleansing I truly need. Even alternating shampoos every other wash was not good enough for my diva of a scalp. Truly my hair is happiest with cheap drugstore hair care full of sulfates and silicones, and I will not be ashamed of that fact.

As a final moment for reflection on my 2025 project panning, here are some numbers:

-I completed 21 out of 24 product-specific goals (one of those was to hit pan on a blush, the rest were all true finishers). That’s 87.5%. One of those goals was to finish my Juliette Has A Gun Magnolia Bliss perfume, which sadly started smelling like sweaty armpit on a hot summer day next to a garbage can and was therefore thrown into said garbage can. The other two were my Laneige mini sleeping mask and a mini Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow tinted moisturizer, which will get finished in 2026.

-I exceeded my goal of finishing 15 full-size BBW body creams and lotions. I finished 18!

-I exceeded my goal of using up 26 bar soaps or approximately 100 ounces of soap. I used up 29 bars totaling 110 ounces!

In total for the year 2025, I had 122 empties with an inventory value of $1,745.73 (that number is based on product COST/VALUE including gifted items, not what I actually paid for things). My highest months for both number and value were September and October (pretty much tied within 1 product and $2), while my lowest months were closely tied between February, June, July, and November.

I’m already chomping at the bit for my 2026 goals because of how well I did this year. I’m going to scale back my goals a bit to be purely numbers-based instead of product specific, but I’m confident I’ll be able to hit all of them while getting through a big chunk of my excess inventory. My low-buy in my problem categories will continue as well—but honestly, my non-problem categories are REALLY good and the contentment will help me continue to be smart about beauty spending/replacements-only.

Cheers to everyone finishing their projects as we get closer to welcoming 2026!!

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee, kudos to you on surpassing your goals! 🙌 Lots of great stats for you, but that 18 full size B&BW products definitely stood out. Those items are packed with product - way to go! That's awesome to not just hit the numbers you aimed for but to exceed them, wow!

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

I made a ton of progress this month and completed quite a few goals! I did about 42 use it's I think it was.

Use It- 210/333 Target 266
Pan It- 23/337 Target 33

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

42 uses last month? That's fantastic progress @Samtian; that's more than one use per day. Great job!

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

@itsfi Thank you! I really wanted to wrap up some categories so some days I had two different eyeliners on haha.

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

It was not all that long ago @Samtian when I was sheet masking twice a day because I was on a mission to use up all my sheet masks 😬, so if you want to go with 2 different eyeliners, have at it.  😆

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

November Update

Monthly Summary:

  • Finished one more project pan product this month 🙌 and it looks like another could be used up by the end of the year, or at least, very, very close to being panned by then. 😊

November All Stars:

  • The Typology Resurfacing Lip Peel is no more, for the best of reasons - I've used it up. Yaaay! This was probably the product I was most consistent with this pan it! challenge. I started off slow, using it once a week, at the beginning of the year but realized soon enough that it was gentle enough that I could use it twice a day, if so desired. I can actually tell the difference this made now that I've been without it for about a week or so. It will be repurchased but I'm waiting to see if it is included in the advent calendar which I'll start unboxing soon on Advent Calendars 2025 - I could look at the list of what's included but I want to be a little surprised, at least for a few days. 😅

  • I'm always reminded how much I love Cle de Peau The Foundation when I actually use it. A little goes a long way so to most, it will look like there's hardly a dent in the jar, but I've been making progress, slowly but surely on it.

Next Month's Focus:

My focus for December as far as the pan it! challenge goes will be primarily be to:

  • use up haruharu wonder Black Rice Bakuchiol Eye Cream - I am really so close. I'll need get out my trusty tube squeezer (I talked about more on the It's Tool Time - The BIC Beauty Edition thread) soon since we're getting down to the end and the design of this particular tube is such that the top or the dispensing agent (pump) attached to the tube cannot be removed by simply unscrewing it

  • finalize my picks for next year's pan it! challenge - I'm thinking about taking a slightly different approach than I have in past years 😬🤔

11.2025 Pan 1a.jpg

All done!!!All done!!!

Re: Pan It! - 2025 Challenge

@itsfi Woo congrats! I am excited to see what you decide on next year. I also am taking a different route and can't wait to see all the fun from everyone.
