The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

• Which item(s) you would like to work on
• How long you will work on said item
• Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
• Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

• share what item(s) you are working on,
• provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
• ask questions,
• encourage others,
• motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

• Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
• If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
• Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc. 
• Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
• Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
• Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
• Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
• Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

• Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.) 
• Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
• Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
• Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
• Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

I started 2023 deciding to focus on 10 products at a time.  I think this was key for me.  I started with a few MAC items hoping to get them in to Back to Mac before the program ended.  Of the original 10 that I had plans to completely empty, I have three left.  Two of those three are going to move on to 2024 with me.  

My last update was mid November and I finished three products since then making for a total of 12 Project Pan empties this year!   I'm pretty happy with that!

This is one of the items that has been with me since Jan 1 2023. I just find it boring. It also takes time to absorb so me, who goes to bed immediately after showering at night, will go to bed sticky if I use it after a shower. I am also not the kind of person who gives myself enough time to do this in the morning without having my pants cling to my legs if I put this on before getting dressed. I AM DETERMINED TO FINISH THIS IN 2024!!!My empty for the month. This is not something I like on my face. I find it leaves a film. I finished it by using it on my elbows.Two products I didn't finish. The Smashbox was full when I introduced it Mid November so I'm not mad that it's not done. It'll also roll into 2024. The Lip Oil Stain from MAC... dries my lips if I use it a dozen times in a day, and leaves a neon stain after that many uses. I'm not going to roll it but I may try to use it in a capsule collection later this year.These are also two that started 2023 with me. How on earth an eyeliner can't be used up in a year??? Admitedly I only use eyeliner on my upper lash line. But I thought this eye liner was going to be a gimmie product. I'm rolling it this year because I WILL FINISH IT! This bronzer is older than some people on BIC. I just don't wear a lot of bronzer. I'm actually super impressed that I managed to hit pan at all!!

Whoa!! I’m super impressed you hit pan on the bronzer. Powder cheek products seem to be those with a bottomless pan for me. I have a feeling it’s one of those products that take forever to hit pan but once you do, it’s easier and faster to see more and more pan. I may have burst into laughter at the bronzer being “older than some people on BIC”. 😂

@itsfi Same.  Bronzers last forever for me in general simply due to lack of use.  Powder ones... that's a decade or two long project pan!

@missjeanie  Ouhh I like that smashbox bottle!  Also. I don’t think I have ever hit pan on a bronzer!  I may get there with a contouring powder eventually.  That’s impressive!

@heartsmyface I've learned that if I stick with one bronzer for ohhhhhh over a decade it can happen!  So ridiculously long!

Top winners are Choco Mint then Fresh 🍑 Peach (the scent is just sooo good) then gummy bear. I would love for Laneige redo the Mango but amp up the mango scent @itsfi

@blackkitty2014  😮😮😮😮😮😮. How….?  Ha, am I using lip masks wrong?  Am I supposed to be applying them thick?  I am utterly shocked.  I saw this and thought for sure it was going to be a post about mixing all the lip masks together so there was just one🤗. I bow down to you! 

Also the fresh ones are so good!  I did power through two of those fairly easily! 

and also, this makes me want to save up all my empties from 2024 for a beauty consumption photo.  Do I even have the space or the willpower for this?

Well I ate them 😂🤣 Joke aside, I already finished more than half the full size Laneige and Fresh when 2023 started so it won’t be hard to see these at the end of their lives sometimes in 2023. But I use the Laneige multiple times a day (as lip moisturizer if that’s the thing 😂🤣) I have them scattered around the house too so I can reapply anytime I feel the drying starts to kick in @heartsmyface 😘
