Hey all you cool cats and kittens, welcome to YEAR 6 of the Pan It Challenge!
The "Rules"
To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections. For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.
Getting Started (please share the following)
Please Use This Thread To...
Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:
Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:
Past Panning Challenges:
@itsfi @Samtian wow, that kind of focus takes dedication! Now I don't feel so bad that I've never hit pan on an eyeshadow (actually that's not true, I think I did just barely hit pan on one of my Colourpop super shock shadows that I've used a fair amount, but never on a palette shade), I definitely haven't been putting in that kind of concentrated long-term use of the same palette or shades.
I do want to try to be more strategic with using more of my eyeshadow palettes and shades going forward. I feel like considering how many palettes I have (and I just bought a bunch more oops 🙈), I really don't use, or haven't yet used, most of the shades. Part of it is that I don't wear makeup every day, more like 3 or so times a week. I set as one of my project pan goals this year to use every shade in a 30-shade palette at least once, and so far I have managed...not quite half 😓. I want to try and do better with this (making better use of my stash and challenging myself to come up with different looks) next year!
You are both an inspiration to me for sure!
@caitbird It's tough I understand! I've been working on this project for a...few years now...hard to complete it when I, like you, accidently keep ending up with more! I also only use a few, not the work ones, or none a week and it can get disheartening. But I believe some us is better than none! Congrats on the pan! It can be hard when you set it as your goal, because you want to use them all, yet you want to check each shade and give it the attention it deserves 🤣. We are always happy to help and encourage your goals!
Awwww, that's really kind of you so say @caitbird; thank you. If we're talking about inspiration, have you seen your posts? You have put together so many amazing looks of the day!!!
"(and I just bought a bunch more oops 🙈)" ~ that's like a recurring theme on BIC. 😂 I feel like I've definitely become a more strategic and savvy shopper since being on BIC, and particularly since taking part in project pan, whether having my own pan project to work through or watching other people's progress and how they approach it. Some of it, too, is about figuring out what's a good cadence for you when it comes to using a product. The vast majority of my eyeshadows are nude and brown shades so when it came time to pick a what to pan, it was "oh, which one will give me the most options (of nudes and browns, that is 🤣)?" or "what haven't I used that I can start fresh with for a panning project." It's about finding what works for you and what your goals may be. I'm pretty sure I'll probably never try to pan a blush again - oh, that was so painful. 🙄
Excited to see what panning goals you'll work towards next year! You too @Samtian.
@itsfi Oh you know I'm already set and ready to go haha. I always start mine around Novemeber/December anyway. Sorry Geroge is blocking the computer screen so I can't go back and fix bad spelling
@itsfi aw, thank you 😊🥰 I am still trying to focus on doing better with chipping away at more of my 2023 project pan goals for the remainder of the year, but I've already drafted a (possibly too ambitious lol) list of possible goals for 2024, and I'm excited to get started on them!
@itsfi Ahhhh the Biba progress! I just love seeing this. I wish I didn't have so many lip balms to use up... I might have a few shadows that would make gorgeous balms... One day... one day!
@missjeanie, I now set aside many (not all) clear lip balms from gwp’s or gratis packages for use as part of any DIY eyeshadow turned tinted lip balm projects. Red eyeshadow and I do not get along but they make beautiful lip balms; same with some pinks. Powder blush also works well for making your own tinted lip balms.
@itsfi Wow! Great job! Love that the Ouai scalp serum made it to your October favs! I love you transformed an eyeshadow to a tinted balm! Was that difficult to do?
@ather, the Ouai has really been good for me - I noticed how good when I finished the bottle and wasn't using it anymore. Project pan has shown me a couple alternative uses for eyeshadow - nail polish, which I made last year out of a couple of shadows here and lip balm, which I made last year and again this year.
Not hard at all, but it can be a bit messy, or that could have just been me. Oops. All you need is (1) the eyeshadow, (2) a toothpick or something to break up the eyeshadow into a loose powder, and then to mix together the balm and powdered eyeshadow, and (3) a jar (or if the balm you're using is already in a pot or jar, then there you have it! Oh, and in this instance, I also used parchment paper. I used the toothpick to remove the eyeshadow pan from the palette and then placed that on the parchment paper to catch any eyeshadow that fell out of the pan when I was breaking it up into a loose powder with the toothpick. I also used the parchment paper to disburse some of the powder into the jar of lip balm. I made 3 pots (various sizes) of tinted lip balm with one full pan of eyeshadow - I used the Milk Lip Sleeping Mask, a mini sample Too Faced lip balm and an empty Sephora Collection travel container (which I filled with a random lip balm and the eyeshadow).
You can apply directly to the lips with your fingers or with a lip brush.
I'm pretty sure @ather that at least one of the eyeshadows in that Biba palette that has not seen pan will be converted into a lip balm. I'll try to remember to document the process with pics when I do that and post it with a pan update.
PS - powder eyeshadow also makes for a great ingredient in tinted lip balms. That was an @heartsmyface tip. 😊
@itsfi Thanks for the recipe! I need to try this! So cool!! I love how it looked!
Is this a palette you would purchase again @itsfi or once it's gone it's gone?
@lmaster, I don’t think I should be picking up any more palettes. 🤣 I like a lot of the shades here, but there are a handful that are just okay. If Natasha Denona didn’t have her Glam or Nude palette, I’d repurchase Biba but she has since come out with palettes that lean more neutral and those are better suited for me. But again, I have no business picking up more eyeshadow palettes 😝 I say that knowing that I have a couple palettes en route and one exception to that rule in January. Oh goodness.
Thank you @Samtian, I don’t think there will be any new pan or full pan for the rest of the year, so my aim will be to just keep chipping away at things. Progress will be the goal for the next two months.
Hello friends, I hope you are all well! It has been far too long since I posted an update for this challenge! I kind of stopped working on my pan it goals for a while over the summer, unfortunately. I was struggling with my depression for some time and wasn't able to keep up with my skincare routine, doing my makeup, and so on like I wanted. I am doing better lately, thankfully, so I am trying to get back on track with making progress on my goals!
All my panned items so far since last update (in...March? Oof):

-starting status: only used a few times
-timeframe for goal: 6 months, then reevaluate
-progress: used regularly; I have incorporated this into my regular makeup routine. I wasn't sure about it at first, but I have come to appreciate it now that I have more practice applying it without making me look too matte or cakey. I think I have pretty much met my goal with this one.

3. Glossier Stretch Concealer (G12)
-goal: hit pan
-starting status: at least 3/4 full
-timeframe for goal: 12 months
-progress: finished!
Will be replacing with a second one of this item (same goal). I now have and prefer the newer Glossier Stretch Balm Concealer in Very Light 2, which is a better color match for me, but I don't want to waste the older one.

-goal: use every shade (30) at least once (aiming for ~2 looks per month)
-starting status: new (haven't used yet)

-progress: used 12 shades so far (I think I might have actually used a couple more, but I forgot to note them down). I am behind where I hoped to be with this goal at this point in the year, so will need to step up my progress for the next few months!
Here are a couple of recent looks I did using this palette:
5. Flower Beauty Blush Bomb Color Drops (Bubbly)
-goal: finish
-starting status: hard to tell, maybe 3/4 full?
-timeframe for goal: 12 months

-goal: use & experiment with more (aiming for ~weekly look)
-starting status: all new (unused) or nearly new
-timeframe for goal: 12 months
-progress/update: added Glossier G Suit (Jet); used mini Stila Stay All Day Longwear Liquid Lipstick (Beso) once, used Glossier G Suit (Jet) once; need to get back to doing red lippies more often!
Here are my recent red lip looks:

Misc:
I also had more general goals to use up & finish as many free samples, mini products and full size products as possible, as well as decide whether to repurchase any. I have been doing okay with this, but would like to make more progress.
Overall, I am pretty happy with my progress since getting back on track with working on this challenge, but I still want to try to do better with my goals!
💜
@caitbird I hope you are doing well. I know how hard it can be sometimes to do things. I just want you to know you’re not alone! Great job on your progress I know you can get through everything!
@caitbird I'm sorry to hear about your rough times 😞 but you should still feel proud, you've still made progress! What is that second red lipstick you used 😍. Love all the looks you created!
@Samtian thank you! 😊 The second red lip picture is Glossier G Suit Soft Touch Matte Liquid Lip Crème Jet !
