Hey all you cool cats and kittens, welcome to YEAR 6 of the Pan It Challenge!

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

• Which item(s) you would like to work on
• How long you will work on said item
• Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
• Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

• share what item(s) you are working on,
• provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
• ask questions,
• encourage others,
• motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

• Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
• If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
• Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc. 
• Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
• Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
• Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
• Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
• Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

• Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.) 
• Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
• Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
• Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
• Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

@caitbird, I try to repurpose my stuff if I can, unless it breaks me out, and even then, I'll try to use it on another part of my body, if I can. I feel like I have to at least try to repurpose it.

I know, right @heavyhedon! That Tarte blush was a part of my first ever project pan and I just feel like I need to finish it. Repurposing it this way will pretty much guarantee it and make it a joy to use.

Intro to Feb: Classic Cool

In February I spend lots of time songwriting for FAWM (February Album Writing Month) an online challenge to write 14 songs in just 28 days. So I like makeup that comes together fast but also bolsters my inspiration. I’m pretty sure my new lineup fits the bill, with cooler tones perfect for easy smoky eye & nude lip combos. My monthly pan this year consists of one eye, one cheek, one lip product, one fragrance, and possibly 1-2 “free” items from any category.

Urban Decay Naked Smoky Eyeshadow Palette is a classic. Got it half-price & rarely dig it out, so I aim to use this 3+ times per week and find out which shades I really enjoy.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder, I got in a deluxe sample from Ipsy. It’s new & unopened, so any use will be great. Intending to try it for my main powder all month; I’ve heard/seen great reviews.

Natasha Denona I Need a Nude in Amorosa is fairly new to me, a great nude that goes with anything on me, I hope. I’m excited to see how it will look with bluer-toned grey shadows.

Burberry My Burbery Blush (spray sample) is fruity, floral and very pretty. There’s a tad less than 2/3 left, so maybe I can even finish it off!

2 Free Category items:

Pixi by Petra Lash Booster Mascara in Blackout Blue didn’t impress me when I tried it, through Ipsy. However, it has a decent brush for my preference, so I’m going to use it on my lower lashes mostly, using as much as I can before it dies, which will likely happen soon. It’s a nice deep blue that will accent my dyed brows.

Bareminerals Complexion Rescue in Vanilla is my go-to foundation that I always re-purchase but I’ve had this tube too long; I think the sides want to start cracking and that will ruin it, so time to use it up. There’s maybe a little more than ¼ left, from what I can tell.

I love your idea to have an overall theme for the year and adapt the specific items with what fits best for each month (like focusing on makeup that's practical and inspiring this month, that's awesome!). I think that's such a cool spin on the pan it challenge. It seems like you are making steady progress with your goals so far. Thanks for keeping us all updated!
