Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, welcome to YEAR 6 of the Pan It Challenge!

**Join us in the 2024 thread available here: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi Awe thank you so much! I started my project in Dec. of 2018, so it's taken a long time to get to this point. I should be done after 2 years finally! Unless I get a bunch more palettes lol. 2 years in a row I had 17 each year. But oh well, it's fun to see the progress and finally knowing I'm closer to done then when I started. I went back and it's actually only 10 this year, working on the 11th lol.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I am mostly trying to finish off a large supply of samples, testers and minis that I've been accumulating and not using.

It's hard justify new purchases when I have so many things to try and finish ‌‌😅‌‌

I think because so many are smaller, once I commit to using them, I'll get through them finally! I have a good size bag of these (and more to replace them with as I go) but I'm so excited to use these and make some headway.

I picked out ones I really wanted to use to start off the pan it challenge,

(And a few masks,a hair oil and spray, a few serums and a lip gloss that have been hanging out for far too long)

I have more house cleaning to do but I didn't want to go to crazy or overwhelm myself.

Top Row: Tula Vitamin C Drops Tula hydrating eye stick, Farmstay Snail Ampoule Peptide Serum, Ouai Wave Spay, Verb Ghost Oil , Glam Glow Gravity & Thirsty Mud, Elisabeth Arden Peel Off Mask, Glow Recipie Watermelon Sleep Mask & Hylaronic Clay Mask, Juice Beauty Rose Clay Mask

Bottom Row: Glow Recipie Retinol eye mask, Elisabeth Arden Capsules in Ceramide,Retinol,Hylaronic Acid and Ceramide Eye Capsules, Inkey Retinol, Clairns EyeLash Serum, Biossance Vitamin C + Squalene , Elisabeth Arden SPF lipgloss, Elisabeth Arden Ceramide Face Wash and Laneige Face Wash

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Great selection, @CynthieLu!! Since of these are such skincare faves; you're right, when you use them consistently, they'll go through in no time. Excited to see your progress!!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Ooooh, lovely choices @CynthieLu! 😀 I am a huge fan of skincare. Will be fun to see the progress you make and to hear whether you'll repurchase.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi I have so many samples to clear out before I'll let myself do any shopping, or at least that is what I'm telling myself. 🙃 I think I need a note book to keep track of my findings, I'm sure to forget the loves I find along the way. But I have a little box full and I'll be so happy to use it all instead of just watching it grow and grow.

It really does help being more mindful. I know there's things I've purchased that I maybe didn't really need 🙄

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@CynthieLu Can't wait to watch the progress! Great group to start with.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Skin care is a definite love for me, I wanted to start off with ones I really enjoy, a lot of the rest are going to be completely new to me if/ when I get to them. Thank you @Samtian 😁

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@CynthieLu That's a really great way to start and stay motivated.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Good luck @CynthieLu!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@faeriegirl thank you! 🩷

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thank you so much for starting this thread again, @ElleElleG!!

Project Pan 2023

Both gratis from the lovely, @TeamBIC. Want to pan these, using the MUBM mostly in the winter and Westman Atelier Super Loaded Tinted Cream Highlighter Peau de Soleil in the summer.

And I will finish this one *shakes hands at ceiling.*  Lise Watier Havana Bronzing Powder Havana mini.

I want to hit a pan in one shade of the two Sephora Clean Blush I haves (once again, thank you for the gratis, Team BIC!!).

I would like to finish the ILIA Color Haze Multi-Use Pigment Before Today . It's beautiful and smells good but it's getting up there.

Finally putting an eyeshadow palette in my pan, lol. I want to pan a shade in each of these. An actual pan, not just move them around (which is hard to judge from the top down view).  Both of these palettes were also lovely gratis (thank you!!). (I had just sprayed these with a makeup sanitizing spray so they aren't quite dry I guess, whoops).

I want to finish both the Stila mini shimmer and the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Flypencil Longwear Pencil Eyeliner Lady Lagoon .

I just want to finish off 6 Scentbird vials. Any 6. Sometimes I save some of my faves, but better to use and try to get a full size or re-add it to my queue.

I make pretty good progress on my haircare, skincare, foundations/concealers and powders, so just need to be consistent with those.

For lippies, I have a few dozen I need to get some use on this year, so if I go through all of those to decide if they're staying in my collection longer, I'll be happy.

Excited to see everyone's progress 🙂

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@haleyvvvv Great items chosen!  I'm always impressed when someone has panning goals for shadows!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I cannot wait to see you fully pan that Lise Watier bronzing powder @haleyvvvv 😁 and to see your progress on the bronzers, eyeshadows and blushes - those three products are the hardest for me to pan.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thank you, @itsfi!!

I find it so hard to pan anything while also using others in my collection. I think these bronzers will be okay to pan (finishing them is another story). For me, it's lipsticks that are the hardest to pan, especially since I don't really get a chance to reapply during the day with wearing a mask, so their usage is way down).

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@haleyvvvv Woo great choices! I'd love to see the scentbird collection.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thank you, @Samtian!!

It's not very big, but I'd like to clear through them to only have a few on the go, since they're not the prettiest bottles and storing the new ones is a pain. Right now I'm set to get 18 a year, so I'd like to go through more tbh but 6 felt more realistic than 12.

I'm pretty close on a few so this feels achievable.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@haleyvvvv That's awesome! I was very interested in them, but saw an ad on Facebook with really bad reviews about the containers.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Good luck @haleyvvvv!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thank you, @faeriegirl!!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@haleyvvvv You got this!!! 🥰 Great commitments. And you've already made impressive progress on that Lise Watier powder!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Thank you, @GeorginaBT!! It's so close but somehow never-ending!!
