Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Welcome to the Pan It Challenge, 2022 Edition!!

I'm claiming a 2022 that's greater than our wildest imaginations, also for my longtimers this will be our FIFTH YEAR doing this challenge. Thanks to all who've stuck around and everyone who's tested themselves and jumped into the madness. You all are amazing 😘

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@Samtian TY! Bellini is so nice, it goes with just about everything.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

I LOVE that you rolled a D20 to pick the shade, @heavyhedon!! (As an aside I think I'm going to do a makeup/dice challenge at some point this year with eyeshadow and that seems like maybe something I'll tag you in; my partner just got a green set with some orange and pink in it and I feel very inspired by them). 🎲

Your foil pan has definitely inspired me!! I'm going to try to do something similar there.

Looking forward to your panning process throughout the year!!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@haleyvvvv Dice come in as many colors as eyeshadow now, it's tempting....

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Just posting a look I did yesterday using panning projects almost exclusively-- the powder, a foundation mini, Used the TF Sweet Peach shade Bellini as main shadow color & as blush, used the Becca highlighter, a touch of my burgundy mascara on lower lashes, and the silver liner as an inner corner highlight and in my waterline (probably faded by time of this pic, though), and the Ciate Glitter Flip with a touch of Bellini on the lower lip, center.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Amazing look of panning items, @heavyhedon!! 🤩 That lippie!!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@haleyvvvv TY! It's hard, even with a camera right at my lips, to capture the full sparkle of a Glitter Flip.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@heavyhedon great lineup! You got this!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@BluePaisley --Thanks, I sure hope so.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Your sample bags look like mine @heavyhedon Great idea to have different tiers of pan projects!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@missjeanie -- mixing up my goals helps me a lot. I always preferred having four PT jobs to one FT, too, haha.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@heavyhedon  I will say, when I first glanced at your list I thought "Wow, she's a pro doing so many products" but then I read everything and I love the tiered idea, not overwhelming at all. I can't wait to see your progress with these.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@AznAngelLiz TY! Last year I def overwhelmed myself trying to finish too many color cosmetics that were at full pan.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Wonderful tiered plan! Excellent, I look forward to your progress! @heavyhedon 🤩🤩🤩

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

TY, @sister13 , the work has begun!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Love these panning goals @heavyhedon! You have such a good variety and I love, love, looooove your seasonal pan ideas! This is going to be so much fun watching your progress!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Thank you! LOL @itsfi , I'm just saucy enough to admit I love them too. I love coming up with a concept to fit items and a fun name to match.

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Happy New Year, everyone!!

22 in '22: This may be overly ambitious but I'm going to give it a shot for at least half the year and will revisit whether it's something I can or want to keep up. Here's 22 items I want to use up in 2022. I'll also post updates on these at different frequencies - for some I will post monthly updates, others I will update every other month, and updates on the rest will be included in quarterly posts.

Monthly Updates: Except for the one new eyeshadow shade where I'll just be aiming to hit pan, my goal is to do a full pan or use up these other products by December 31:

1.  Natasha Denona Biba Palette - Tusk
2.  Natasha Denona Biba Palette -  one of the sparkly shades
3.  Natasha Denona Biba Palette - another one of the sparkly shades
4.  Natasha Denona Biba Palette - one new shade - hit pan on a new shade
5.  belif eye cream
6.  Touch in Sol No Poreblem makeup primer

Every other month: (February, April, June, August, October, December) - My goal is to use up these items by end of the year:

7.  Tom Ford Soleil Foundation - I was inspired by @blackkitty2014 including it in last year's project pan and her progress on it.
8.  Guerlain lip balm
9.  Doll Hospytal lipstick
10. Innisfree lip sleeping mask - I've hit pan on this one but need to work on using it up.
11. Farmacy Very Cherry Bright vitamin C serum
12. Kiehl's Creme de Corps lotion

Quarterly Updates: (March, June, September, December)
My goal for these products are:
  • use up all the items with an asterisk * after the product name;
  • hit pan on the Kosas powder and one shade of the Sephora Collection cream blush; and
  • for the rest, to just put them to use more consistently and see how much I use up by the end of the year.

13. Essie cuticle oil *

14. amika Triple Rx Hair Mask * - this is one of my favorite hair masks. I have quite a few tubs and need to stop hoarding them.

15. Hourglass highlighter

16. Chanel lip liner

17. Trader Joe's grapefruit scrub *

18. Sephora Collection hair scrub

19. tarte Paarty blush

20. Kosas Cloud Set Baked Setting Powder - hit pan

21. Sephora Collection Cream blush - 1 blush - hit pan

22. Floral Street Sunflower Pop Eau de Parfum roller ball*

Thank you @ElleElleG for hosting these pan challenges and for your tips and encouragement!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

You've got this @itsfi ! You're going in with some panning familiarity under your belt and a well laid out plan. Cannot wait to see your progress updates!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@ElleElleG, I'm going to give it my best try, that's for sure! Hoping this year, I can balance focusing on my project pan items while incorporating other products into the mix more frequently than I have in past project pan years. I'll readjust my panning goals if need be, but I feel like if I can reach for these items at least a few times per week, I should be able to get into a good routine / habit with them. Pan It! 2022 Challenge, here we come! 😊

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

@itsfi Love that idea! I can't wait to watch more and more of the Biba go bye bye!

Re: Pan It! - 2022 Challenge

Me too @Samtian! It’ll be interesting to see which new shadow will get closest to hitting pan. I think the black shadow will be the last one from this palette but I can see myself moving on before that happens.
