2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Last Week! - Healthy scalp and hair tips

2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge

Ready or not, 2023 is here, and the Beauty Insider Community is kicking the year off the best way we know how: with our annual Self-Care Check-In Challenge! Whether or not you’re a resolution-maker, there’s something kind of satisfying about the idea of a “fresh start” 🧼 and while we’re big supporters of maintaining boundaries and practicing self-care all year round, it doesn’t hurt to have a little extra motivation to set healthy (and/or relaxing) habits.

Think of this thread as the place to check in with your fellow Community members and share how you’re practicing different types of self-care – they can be inspired by our weekly inspo prompts, or based on your own unique self-care needs or beauty intentions. If one theme doesn’t speak to you – by all means, skip it! You can still stop by to cheer on your fellow Community members! 🤗

  • Week 1 (1/4-1/10): Perfecting your nighttime skincare routine
  • Week 2 (1/11-1/17): Adding some movement to your day (and post-exercise relaxation!)
  • Week 3 (1/18-1/24): Spending extra time on body care (dry brushing, exfoliating treatments, bath time?)
  • Week 4 (1/25-1/31): Organizing your beauty collection (it can be therapeutic!)
  • Week 5 (2/1-2/7): Relaxing with home scents and candles
  • Week 6 (2/8-2/14): Experimenting with a new-to-you wellness trend (supplements, rollers, CBD…)
  • Week 7 (2/15-2/21): Getting a good night’s sleep
  • Week 8 (2/22-2/28): Trying a healthy scalp and haircare routine ◀

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

That’s awesome @Titian06 ! You knew how to take advantage of the situation to reorganize 😊

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

@Titian06 @That challenge really helped me with some organization as well! The challenge definitely made it more fun

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

A fully organized collection would be a breath of fresh air @Titian06 way to go!

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

What a good feeling @Titian06 , congrats! 💞

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

I am one of "those" who does find organizing almost anything therapeutic but unfortunately I've been sick this week and this project, although started due to an ongoing move, is going to continue through the next 2 weeks.

One thing I'm exploring is shadow depotting (not sure if that is endorsed here) but it seems like something a makeup "addict" like myself needs to do as I find myself spending more time switching the same shades over and over bc I forget exactly which "moss green" from 'x palette' will compliment the darker cool green from 'y palette and so on. Palettes from companies like #HudaBeauty ( #MAC #Sephora #TooFaced #Tarte #BhCosmetics #MakeupRevolution but certain ones have either sentimental value or are too pretty to cut up like the #PatMcGrath #MoonlitSeduction (even though I don't use all of the shoes and it certainly isn't my favorite of hers - then again in all honesty I can't afford very many either)

Another way I am decluttering is simply to discard / recycle products that are way past expiration dates or those not used. Of course anything sealed is always donated to places that accept them but a NOTE to those new to this part: if an item isn't safety sealed most places have to toss it either because of safety concerns, local legislation and potential lawsuits from persons who may have an allergic reaction and then sue the place they received it from- lastly the most importantly is the receiver's health in the event this does happen but this was something I didn't know until I worked in the industry years ago. Cheers and Have Fun Everyone! Becks

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

Week 4, well, I don't know that I ever find organizing anything therapeutic. 😄 Eventually things start to drive me nuts and I just do it all at once across the house.

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

I'm 50/50 on the fence with this organizing stuff @curlychiquita I don't want to clean things but I do like when I can find my stuff without hunting 😅 🙃

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

Same @curlychiquita ! It’s baby steps for me on any decluttering and reorganizing it seems. Especially for makeup. Ugh! Working on it as we speak!

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

I can so identify, @curlychiquita ! 😄

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

Week 4

This week is all about organization. My collection is small but growing. What I really want is a way to keep track of the products I have on my phone so I don’t accidentally buy doubles of something I already have. Does anyone have a suggestion for an app that can help me catalogue what I have? I could set up a spreadsheet online, but I’m more of a visual person and would prefer something a little more user friendly. TIA!

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 4 - Let's organize our beauty collections!

@JoSometimes I found the Sortly app when we moved a couple months ago and quickly discovered that it’s a great place to organize my spa collection. 🙂

It’s a great place to keep track of what you own with pictures, tags, notes, and even prices.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for the suggestion @BumbleBee74M!

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

I love body care but I need to remind myself that is it important to use and apply them.
I like to use #lancôme nutrix royal body which I love the smell and it is smoothing my skin. For my facial I like to use SEPHORA COLLECTION Clean Charcoal Nose Strip 1 Mask . I try to use it one a week or every two weeks.

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

adding some movement is because my job has alot to do with standing and walking is healthy for me and what I like to do is to do my daily stretches! I found it stress releasing.

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Omg same @Nozz I stand all day at work so stretching exercises feel sooooo amazing

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Week 3 (1/18-1/24): Spending extra time on body care (dry brushing, exfoliating treatments, bath time?)

I really enjoy body care, from dry brushing prior to showering, to soaking in a bubble filled tub in a candle lit washroom at the end of the day. I’ve learned that treating my whole self as deserving of self-care rituals brings me a big sense of peace and wellness. Our society teaches us not to like our bodies and I reject that by loving myself and treating myself with kindness.

The dry brush I use was $6 at my local grocery store and it’s working well for me, but I’d absolutely love to try the Keys Soulcare Energizing Dry Body Brush or the Dr. Barbara Sturm The Body Brush I may treat myself after working hard to implement this step into my routine over the past couple months. I love how smooth it makes my skin since it helps to slough away dead skin.

One of the best Bath time candles is the VOLUSPA French Cade & Lavender Glass Jar Candle , it just smells like a warm spring day off the coast of the ocean with the gentle and calming notes of lavender whisper in the background. It’s not too strong but it has a warm and fresh presence.

I desperately wish Sol De Jenerio would bring back their bath bomb because it was one of my favourites to throw into the tub, it smelled incredibly divine and that warm fragrance filled the house. The lush bath bombs are great but the Cheirosa ‘62 fragrance can’t be beat! It will be no surprise that I love their Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Play Moisturizing Shower Cream-Gel not only for the scent but it lathers so nicely and leaves me feeling clean.

Something else I really try to prioritize is moisturizing, we live in a relatively dry climate and my skin can suffer because of it. I like to use OUAI Rose Hair & Body Oil after getting out of the tub and then I apply my Aveeno I unscented lotion on top which helps to seal in the oil making my skin feel smooth and well moisturized.

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

@bakeamuffin love love love your self-care message! our bodies do so much for us, and we (at the very least, I know I have this problem sometimes) still find negatives to focus on. carving just a little time out to acknowledge that is so nice! I have also been using some essential oil rollerballs to give myself a little boost throughout the day, and i find they are so nice too for a quick min to just ground me a bit when the day is a little overwhelming! there's a really nice Saje eucalyptus and mint one which is fantastic for clarity and deep breathing, and I've also been using a local brand that does one called stress release (blood orange, lavender, bergamot, grapefruit, ylang ylang). so crazy how such small things that can easily be overlooked make such a difference!

that Ouai oil sounds so lovely and luxurious, i'll have to add it to my list of things to try!

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Great list, thanks for the tips!

Re: 2023 Self-Care Check-In Challenge: Week 3 - Share your body care tips!

Oof, the body care one hits home.  For awhile I was so good about religiously using a body moisturizer both morning and night and it really did make a difference for my skin but I've slacked off.  This week I need to commit to taking up the habit again!  I recently dug out my Sol de Janeiro Mini Brazilian Bum Bum Visibly Firming Refillable Body Cream 2.5 oz/ 75 mL and maybe that will inspire me to stick with it.
