Exciting news, BIC!
Sephora is launching a one-of-a-kind influencer program and we are inviting YOU to apply for a chance to partner with Sephora as a member of the first ever #SephoraSquad! The #SephoraSquad is meant to represent the authentic voices of people who truly love Sephora, so community members definitely come to mind for this opportunity. You don’t have to be “picture perfect” nor are you required to have 100M followers, we’ll be considering passionate applicants with varying levels of experience with beauty and social media. The best part? #SephoraSquad finalists will be offered paid 2019 Sephora partnerships and will be connected with exciting Sephora products, resources, and our network of brands and industry experts to help.
If this sounds like something you would love, applications open 2/13 at 9am EST. Head to this link tomorrow to apply for a seat on the #SephoraSquad!
Good luck!
TeamBIC
This is really fantastic! I'm not applying as I literally just opened an Instagram account so that I can follow the people you select (I know, I know, I'm a stereotypical middle-ager. I ask my teenagers how to do stuff). This is going to be lots of fun for your lucky selectees!
@curlychiquitayou should try anyway and see what happens. That's why I applied, it would be a great experience and something a little different. It doesn't matter how many followers we have or how picture perfect we may look. I started really getting into instagram just this year but opened my account like 4 yrs ago and stopped asap back then. Instagram is less scary now to interact with people than youtube. For me at least.
You would be great at it !😍
@Buootiful , I probably should. I know I'd enjoy it, I've just never done it. I'll let you know if I do. Good luck to you! 💕
So excited about this amazing opportunity!! Who else is excited?😘😘
Same here babe!
This sounds so amazing, but do you have to be over 18 to apply?
@TeamBIC I'd love to apply, but unfortunately I'm not on IG for a variety of reasons. If you ever have an opportunity that doesn't involve that, please let us know! I think several of us are in that boat. 🙂
This Instagram thing is all well and good, but I believe that you are missing the opportunity to have an in-community "influenster" thing, for lack of a better title. Not all of us here are on IG for various reasons, but if there was an in community place where key community members could do the same thing, it would be wonderful. I'd like to nominate a community member who has done more for influencing members to buy new products than anyone I can think of, our very own @veronika23 . She has ran the "Found in the Wild" and "Coming in (Spring, Fall, Summer, Winter)" threads for years, all for no compensation at all. These threads are a lot of work to maintain and she really puts a lot of research into finding new products, release dates and just generally encouraging us all to purchase these new items. I know that her threads have definitely influenced my purchases- it's much easier to just check her upcoming release threads for new products than anyplace else. So if you could set up a community based reviewer system, I think that would be a nice complement to the IG system.
Everyone else has summed it up so I'll just say here here! Great points @prettyinpa

@prettyinpa That is so thoughtful of you to recommend @veronika23 and so true what you say about her and the community.
It's Sephora's choice, of course, and anyone who wants to can join Instagram, but I guess I don't understand how that would be more advantageous to Sephora than using BIC. Maybe more info can be squeezed into a smaller space- more photos, control over which products are highlighted? Possibly more exposure? I guess, if true, those can generate more income for Sephora.
Well said @prettyinpa! I wholeheartedly agree! @veronika23 does a lot for this community and her influence is wide reaching!
I agree with @prettyinpa and what many members have said in their replies. Once I saw an IG account was the first requirement and there would be training for influencers, I realized that Sephora probably had something very different in mind than what I would be interested in. I don't think one system has to replace each other, but agree that while this board doesn't have the reach of social media it's very valuable.
I would say the power of BIC stems from the fact that it is still used like those old school discussion boards and is oriented around a community, not individuals. No one is here to promote a branded, filtered image of themselves. You know this endless slew of articles about how too much time on social media makes you feel anxious, or how there is so much misinformation? I never feel that way on BIC and I am very sensitive to people who come here and try to tamper with that.
Anyway, super roundabout way of saying that BIC works like a community, it's not about going viral, it's about regular human interactions. I know who I trust when it comes to skin care, hair care, new releases, scientific information about ingredients, experience with many products, remembers past products, and so on. I know in my mind who is consistently helpful and positive. This is definitely way more influence than an influencer. For me anyway, I wouldn't claim to be the norm! Would it be helpful to have all the information we generate here better organized and more easy to search for? YES, YES PLEASE.
As for having a concurrent squad-like program for upstanding BIC members to members, I like the idea in principle, but I'm not sure it would be so easy. I think there is a tension here between harnessing community power to share information and straight up promotion. I def like the idea of making the gratis more structured and tailored.
@pocketvenus A million times YES to all of this!
