I Started transition in September of 2021 and haven't had much changes , I'm still grateful and know I have to be patient,  but that doesn't mean I can't cheat the system a little,  I've never really tried makeup , a little here and there , but I know I'm missing stuff ... buttโ€ƒ I have some makeup , jecca blacs highlight contour conceal deleays,  and IL makiage foundation... i don't know what will help tho , I don't want to mess up bc i have no one to tell me yay or not(I've had like a dozen laser hair removal sessions so beard cover up isn't a huge huge focus) buut ... any help would be so so greatly appreciated  ... I'm over the whole division between do I learn makeup and deal with society or do I continue feeling uncomfortable never getting to express who I am . . .

Hi @EvieSnow. Itโ€™s hard coming into this world of beauty and cosmetics and trying to navigate it without any real help. Thereโ€™s a TON of information out there, someone of it useful, some not so much, and some even toxic. It can get overwhelming trying to sort through it all.

There are a bunch of lessons Iโ€™ve learned over the past year of getting into makeup. Firstly, makeup is for you. Whatever I think is beautiful is the way to go, what everyone else says doesnโ€™t matter. Secondly, itโ€™s just makeup. If Iโ€™m not happy with it, I just wipe it off! Donโ€™t worry about messing up! I have my good days and my bad days with makeup, but I consider those bad days good because Iโ€™ve learned that what I tried doesnโ€™t work for me. Thirdly, it takes some practice. Iโ€™ve watched so many tutorials but the best way to learn is to sit down and pick up the brush.

As for products to try, I can see that you already have some great choices already. How do they make you feel? If youโ€™re happy with them, then itโ€™s just a matter of learning how to use them. I watched a few videos on YouTube. Stef Sanjati, NikkiTutorials, and even Sephoraโ€™s bold beauty were trans specific ones that I watched. I branched out to other YouTubers to learn specific things, but it was really overwhelming. The best thing I did for learning how to use makeup properly was to actually go into a store with makeup on and ask for feedback. The associates I spoke with were really supportive and helpful. Eventually, I sat down with a makeup artist for a makeover and she turned it into a lesson to help me recreate the look at home with what I had. If Sephora is a little too public for you, try calling a local makeup studio and see if they have private rooms for lessons. Some do and are willing to accommodate you.

At the end of the day, donโ€™t give up. It will take some time and patience, but hopefully youโ€™ll find some peace in all this chaos. โ˜บ๏ธ
