help me!! please [acne]

i am a teenager with acne prone skin. i have tried everything- i am being dead serious. i drink lots of water and eat heathy. i try not to use harsh products and would love to hear everyone's 'holy grail' products for acne !! thank you so much

Re: help me!! please [acne]

OK, here goes nothing. For a long time, I had horrible acne. I finally discovered a few things that helped me get rid of it. Here they are, in no particular order.

One, Salicylic Acid or the new Differin OTC are your friends! I used the Salicylic Acid in my cleanser and nightly wipes to prevent breakouts for years. Lately, I have kept the S.A. wash for the morning, but switched to a gentler face wash and the Differin at night.

Two, look at the product labels of the things that break you out vs the things that do not break you out. This is one of the most important steps towards acne-free skin! I discovered that chemical sunscreens, almond oil, and hyaluronic acid will cause terrible breakouts! And all I had to do was look at the product labels. If only I had done this years earlier...

Third, a clay mask can also help, particularly when your face is already beginning to break out. But it has to be used in tandem with the Differin gel or the salicylic acid, or it won't be effective!

Re: help me!! please [acne]

Look into getting a beauty brush. Depending on your target price you can get a Clarisonic or check out TJ Maxx for a manual brush. I also love the Cetaphil cleanser. Just remember not to trying anything too drying because that will cause your skin to produce more oil which leads to more breakouts. Continue with your healthy diet and if nothing works, I would look into getting your hormone levels checked. Good luck!

RE: help me!! please [acne]

I use PTR acne kit to fight active acne and treat my skin every night for 15mins to manuka honey. It's antibacterial and medical grade honey which is amazing at drying pimples out and lightening acne scars. Plus a jar lasts forever so don't let the price scare you.

RE: help me!! please [acne]

I have pretty bad adult acne, and I think I've tried just about everything. A couple of weeks ago I bought the acne kit from Peter Thomas Roth followed by the first aid beauty facial moisturizer and it's honestly cleared up my skin and made it more balanced. I suggest you give it a try. Hope this helps!!

Re: help me!! please [acne]

I'm not a teenager but i've been breaking out like one recently. The only thing that has worked for my breakouts and hormonal acne so far is the SLMD Skincare line by Dr. Sandra Lee (Dr. Pimplepopper on YouTube). I've also been using some of the Sunday Riley products like the UFO Oil and the sulfur mask. I also use the EpiDuo Gel and it helps over time. My advice is to give it another chance but while your skin adapts to it, use only a small amount and every other day or only at night.

I have to disagree with @greeneyedgirl107 here 🙂

I do not recommend foaming cleansers and mechanical exfoliation for acne prone skin - or for anybody for that matter.  If it works, that is the exception.

I suggest cleansers like Ren Evercalm and Pixi glow mud cleanser.  Avoid foaming as it contains ingredients that dry the skin, and weaken the protective barrier.

Use a gentle exfoliating pad.  CosRX salicylic, FAB Radiance pads etc are very good.

Apply gentle moisturiser and SPF.

@makeupgirl137 @greenchilli To each her own!  Thanks for weighing in!

I believe the Neutrogena foaming cleanser is different from other foaming ones out there; I'd need to dig out my Paula Begoun book for detail, but beautypedia gives it 5/5 stars.

Good luck!

I would try a Clay cleanser like Dermalogica's Dermal Clay Cleanser its helps with the oily the comes with acne prone skin and also has a cooling affect. I have used it on acne prone skin and they cleared up quick. Also look where your break outs happen the most.

Re: help me!! please [acne]

@makeupgirl137 Liquid cleanser is a must.  I like Neutrogena Fresh Foaming wash which is like $4.99 at Target and even less at Wal-Mart.

Mechanical exfoliation is important: My favorite is Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash; Neutrogena has some nice ones, just avoid those with fragrances.

Chemical exfoliation has worked wonders for me: Paula's Choice is the only brand believe to have good BHA; I use the BHA 9 but there are 1 and 2 % versions from the line

Oil control: Blotting sheets are important; Target makes inexpensive ones

Spot treatment: Clean & Clear Persagel; Target makes a knock-off that I'm assuming is decent

Prescription: Retin-A is very helpful.  The key is to start VERY slowly.

Good luck!

Re: help me!! please [acne]

I've been struggling with acne for what feels like decades!! I agree, visit the derm, they can really tell you everything you need to know

RE: help me!! please [acne]

@makeupgirl137 Have you been to a dermatologist? My 'holy grails' that finally got rid of my acne were tretinoin and lactic acid.

RE: help me!! please [acne]

I have been and they prescribed me EpiDuo. It's 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and adapalane gel. It only dried out and irritated my skin. Thank you so much though!

RE: help me!! please [acne]

Hey girl have you tried Murad acne complex clarifying mask? It works amazing on acne.

RE: help me!! please [acne]

i'll make sure to try it!! thank you so much!!
