azelaic acid and vitamin C???

Hey guys. I know azelaic acid works well with AHAs and BHAs, but is it safe to use with vitamin C? I am working on my pores/blackheads and fading hyperpigmentation from acne. I want to treat these issues in my morning and night routine, and am considering using a BHA in the morning and AHA at night, but think this might be too irritating for my skin. I was thinking about vitamin C with azelaic acid in the morning but can’t find much research on the combo. Anyone have any insight?

Re: azelaic acid and vitamin C???

If you go on YouTube and look up the channel ‘Beauty Within’ they actually talked about using azelaic acid and vitamin c together as well as the difference between BHA and AHA. Azelaic acid and vitamin C work better together in reducing inflammation, killing acne causing bacteria, treating post acne marks, and other hyperpigmentation. In terms of use, I feel that it’s the safest bet to use the two in your P.M skincare routine and just go in with your normal sunscreen and moisturizer in the morning. I’m personally using BHA in my A.M and P.M skincare because I’m acne prone. I feel like you should just pick one of the two (either BHA and AHA) to keep it simple

RE: azelaic acid and vitamin C???

@vkelly22 I personally would not use them together as both are strong acids. Maybe, apply Vit C in the morning, and azelaic at night. Also, if you look at The Ordinary’s website, the regime guide recommends using azelaic alone at night without layering other acids. From a anecdotal standpoint, I applied azelaic acid last night and it was pretty intense. I could not imagine applying Vit C on top. Hope this helps.
