What’s a good moisturiser?

Re: What’s a good moisturiser?

Hi @jonmobbiner ! Do you know your skin type/behavior (dry, oily, combo, or "normal"/balanced—not too dry or oily anywhere)? Some folks with oily skin prefer gel type moisturizers or those that rely on dimethicone as a moisturizing ingredient. Folks with dry skin often need moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, squalane, or petrolatum, plus hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid, carrageenan, urea, peptides, etc. If you have sensitive skin, you might want a simple, basic moisturizer like Vanicream Moisturizing Cream or Lotion, or CeraVe Moisturizing Cream or Lotion.

I have mostly-dry combo skin that's quite reactive/inflammation-prone and throws tantrums over essential oils. My usual daytime moisturizer is Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer which contains squalane. In very warm weather, I can skip the AM moisturizer and just rely on a good moisturizing sunscreen to pull double duty (moisturizer + UV protection). Otherwise, I need that separate Vanicream moisturizer under my sunscreen. At night, I alternate between Paula's Choice CLEAR Oil-Free Moisturizer 2 oz/ 60 mL and Vanicream Moisturizing Lotion because they play nice with my nightly retinaldehyde product.
