What is the best way to wash your face?

I mean I feel like I'm washing my face wrong but I would take a scoop of water (using my hands) and then putting it on my face and then rubbing my face to get the soap off but when I think I'm done, there's still a little bit of soap left. Any ideas on how to wash your face (without making a mess too)

And if your curious, I'm using the  First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser – Gentle Hydrating Cleanser 5 oz/ 150 mL

I usually wash my face in the shower- w/ pea sized amount of revive face wash on my Clarisonic Mia 2. If you don’t have a Clarisonic- get one and use it with your favourite face cleanser 🙂

Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

I know this is going to sound silly but I create my own Beauty Bib by taking a dry hand towel and folding it into the neckline of whatever top I'm wearing so when I splash water on my face I don't get anything on my clothes. Plus I never have that searching for a dry towel with my eyes closed moment after i rinse. Silly but it works for me.

Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

I usually wash it in the shower, bc it's easier and I don't have to be all hunched over the sink.  plus I think the steam helps.  but I've been thinking about using a spray bottle...

Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

@vickievu64  When washing over the sink, I lay a hand towel on the counter and kind of fold it around the sink, to absorb some of the splashed water. Then I use lukewarm water to wet my face down. I squeeze a dime sized amount of cleanser in one hand, add some water, and emulsify it with both hands. Rub that all over my face, without rubbing too hard/vigorously.

To rinse off the cleanser, I use a makeup eraser type of cloth or one of my reusable bamboo “cotton” rounds. I soak the cloth in lukewarm water, very gently wipe my face with it, rinse it quickly, and repeat all around my face til the cleanser’s gone. This reduces the amount of water splashed outside the sink and helps remove anything the cleanser didn’t. It’s also a good way for me to use all the makeup erasers I have: I never use them anymore for their intended purpose (I use micellar water instead to remove makeup before using cleanser), but their soft plush texture makes them perfect cleanser rinsers.

RE: Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

In your opinion, is it a good investment to buy disposable towels every time on amazon or just use a wash cloth. I heard wash cloths aren’t sanitary but if I were to use a wash cloth, how often do I wash the wash cloth? Once a week?

Re: RE: Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

I use a washcloth or any towel just once then toss it in the laundry. You're leaving behind any oils, dirt, makeup residue and dead skin cells behind when you dry off so I would never want to reuse that same washcloth or towel again until it's been laundered.

Re: RE: Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

@vickievu64  I prefer reusable options to disposable. That way, I drastically reduce waste and I get higher quality items to use on my face. (No disposable cotton round/square/pad/towel feels as nice against my skin as reusable plush microfiber or soft bamboo fabric, plus disposable cotton pads tend to shed or fall apart during use.) A soft washcloth will also work. My particular skin doesn’t like most washcloths (too rough on my face to use daily), but that doesn’t mean they’re not good for anyone else to use.

Reusables are sanitary if you use them only once between washings. I cut my 4 old Makeup Erasers into thirds, since I don’t need a full 15” long one just to rinse my face. I also have 2 of Sephora’s smaller makeup eraser type towels. So I can go 14 nights before I have to do laundry, if I get lazy. I normally do laundry once a week, so I don’t run out of them or my reusable bamboo rounds.

Re: RE: Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

Ah I see... so when I pat dry my face, do I like dry out my face with a towel or do I have my skin feel a little moist and put on toner?

Another thing is that which in your opinion is better: Applying toner using your hands or applying toner using a cotton pad and if cotton pad, what cotton pad brand do you recommend?

Re: RE: Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

@vickievu64  I try to keep my face damp (not soaking wet) through my whole skincare routine. That’s because of my skin type: mostly-dry combo. I need all the hydration I can get. 🙂 So I apply toner to moist/damp skin.

I apply toner/essence with my hands (or just spray it onto my face, if I’m using the Indie Lee CoQ-10 toner), then wipe it with a cotton round. I do that because my rounds aren’t the disposable cotton kind: they’re reusable and made of bamboo. If I put toner directly on a round, it’ll get mostly absorbed by the round instead of mostly applied to my face. 😄 When I use elf Hydrating Water Essence (I like it as a toner/essence hybrid), I sometimes don’t wipe it at all: I just apply it with my hands and pat it into my skin.

I bought 2 different types of bamboo rounds from Amazon; just search for “reusable cotton rounds” and you should see lots of options. If you buy some, make sure they’re at least 2-ply and have stitching down the middle to keep the 2 layers from sliding around during use. Here’s what mine look like. The ones with colored stitching are 2-ply bamboo with a very soft velour texture. The other ones are 3-ply bamboo with a soft terrycloth texture. (This photo’s from last year, when I first bought the bamboo rounds, so they look super clean here. :D)

Re: RE: Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

@WinglessOne which one do you use for toner? I want to replace my cotton pads but I'm not sure which texture would be best.

Re: RE: Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

@makeitup305  I usually use the terry ones for toner. They’re not as soft as the velour ones, but they’re also not as absorbent.

For eye makeup removal, I only use the velour ones. To remove any other makeup, I kinda randomly alternate between velour and terry. If my skin’s feeling irritated or extra sensitive for some reason, I use the velour ones.

Re: RE: Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

Ok, thank you! I've been eyeing them for a while now but I couldn't decide which ones to pick up. @WinglessOne

Re: RE: Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

@vickievu64 Try the  Shiseido Super-Soft, 100% Natural Facial Cotton 165 sheets

I like to apply balancing or exfoliating toner with a cotton pad but use my hands for a hydrating toner. As for the residue, if you have very soft water, it might feel like your skin is still soapy when it's just leftover moisture.

Re: RE: Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

@vickievu64

Sanitary depends only on how often you wash it. Personally, I use a washcloth once and then put it in the hamper. Have enough of whatever cloth you decide on for a week or two or however often you want to do laundry.

@vickievu64 I use a makeup eraser for everything, for cleansing, for applying toner, essence, removing face masks and makeup, they are amazing!

Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

how do you wash your face whilst using cleanser?

Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

how much are you using? you only need about a pea size worth. I usually work mine in my hands before putting it on my face, as most products need to be emulsified a bit to get the real work out of them

Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

I’ll try doing that, thanks!

Re: What is the best way to wash your face?

This is how I clean my face twice a day.

Spritz face with some Avene Thermal Water

Use a coin amount of favorite cleanser

Use a wet and wringed out face cloth

(I bought 10 pure cotton from amazon for $15)

Remove all cleanser with the face cloth

(Hang up to dry, toss in hamper later)

Use a second fresh face cloth to pat dry thoroughly

(Hang to dry and use it the next time as the one that washes your face!)

Follow with the rest of your routine.

My skin vastly improved this way and it looks nice having a stack of freshly folded white cotton facecloths in the bathroom. Naturally this would apply to a second cleanse if you are wearing SPF or lots of makeup. I use Bioderma and Intrinsics Silkin Wipes to remove makeup....I used to use thick cotton pads from Shisedo but they take up too much product.

🙂
