What and what not to mix Skincare Products

I’m adding Cerave 2% salicylic acid acne control gel with aha and bha to my regimen bc I’ve been having hormonal acne bad during my cycle then random here and there.

im trying to figure out when to use it in my routine like of course cleanse then micellar water then do I use serums or this acne gel first? Then apply moisturizer. Can I use retinol serum when I use it or should I use the acne gel at night and retinol in the am or what. Please help.

also what ingredients are safe to use together during one of your am and or pm sessions. I know vitamin c and retinol are no no they have interactions in ingredients. Hylaronic acid and retinol are good together, niacinamide and HA acid are good.

so help me IS THERE AN IOS APP I CAN DOWLOAD TO HELP ME MAKE SURE MY SKINCARE PRODUCTS ARENT INTRACTING WITH EACH OTHER????

Re: What and what not to mix Skincare Products

Personally i have not tried either of the products but I heard it is good to layer skincare from lightest to thickest consistency. I’m guessing if the cerave gel is thicker than your serum, use it after.

and to answer your second question, I am not exactly sure but since retinol is also a exfoliating ingredient, it is probably not good use both at the same time which will be too harsh. maybe use it every other day alternating with the cerave gel?

 hope this helps šŸ¤—

Re: What and what not to mix Skincare Products

Hi @jenniferhurstxo. What products are you currently using in your routine? I’m not expert, but it would help to see a complete list.

For retinols, they’re generally used at night. They are photosensitive and break down when exposed to light, so they lose their effectiveness when used during the day. Some say they also make your skin more sensitive to light, so a good SPF is beneficial during the day.
